Bobby will take charge next week
From Daily Nation
Gor Mahia secretary-general George Bwana said the position was on a probational basis as the club searched for a suitable coach to hire on a long-term basis.
“We are now looking for a coach to hire permanently, preferably a European,” Bwana said on Thursday.
The Gor official said they had already received a lot of interest from candidates from the United Kingdom, Germany and Portugal for the job.
Ogolla, who during negotiations with Gor Mahia earlier in the week said he wanted to be sure of every detail of his engagement before making a commitment, was officially introduced to the playing unit yesterday but will effectively take over next week.
Confederation Cup
Bwana said the new stand-in assistant coach, Tom Ogweno, will handle the team at Saturday’s Confederation Cup preliminary round return leg against Ferroviario Maputo.
“We agreed that since the Confederation Cup is just two days away we will let Ogweno, who linked up with the team earlier this week, to continue,” Bwana said.“Ogolla may advise but he will not take full charge of the team until after the fixture.”
Ogolla and Ogweno take over from Cameroonian Anabwa Awono, who was sacked on Monday together with his entire technical bench for what the club termed poor performance.
Bwana said Ogolla has been given a free hand to come up with his own technical bench.
“One reason we fired the entire bench was that there was a lot of in-fighting,” Bwana revealed. “They were not pulling in one direction and we needed to act fast before the situation deteriorated.”
He called on Gor fans to be patient and give the players and the new technical team time to come up with a “winning formula”.
He said: “They should let the team concentrate. I know the pressure is there and fans want results but you need time to produce these results.”
Good morning bloggers,
Is it me or Mr.George Bwana has just lost it! You can not go to the press and disclose details of the contract you have just signed with your technical bench. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth for JBO and TO to learn that the details of their contract is in the public domain. YOU MUST KNOW PEOPLE Mr.SG and always try to create positive SYNERGY. People are hired on probation for a fact. This is to give them a chance to prove their ability and credibility to the organisation. But they are not hired to be told: “You are on probation but we are in the meantime looking for someone to permanently take over from you”
In a nutshell, the EC are telling the players and the fans to prepare for another change in the technical bench IN THE NEAR FUTURE. We need continuity, uniformity and predictability both in the EC and in the playing unit. Its wrong to give invites and to receive letters of application for a position thats not vacant. Gor Mahia currently has no vacancy for the position of a coach and his assistant. The said positions were recently filled -up. So Mr. Bwana, don’t tell us you are still receiving applications from people as far as the UK, Portugal and Germany. You even mention that you prefer a European!! Do you deserve to work for Gor Mahia given that you have hired a coach and his assistant but you don’t have total faith in them? What happens if they outperform your expectations as they are likely to do. Will you still hire your preferred mzungu coach? Give JBO and TO the correct and desired support as you would give a mzungu coach. Judge coaches by the results they post when all the parameters are equal. You will be amazed at how good some of our local coaches can be. No mzungu coach is a miracle worker. Discipline, hard-work and strict application of the technical and tactical aspects of football will always reap good rewards. The mzungu coach will always insist on fielding only fit and disciplined players. The difference btwn our local coaches and the foreign coaches is always negligible whenever both coaches are treated equally. “You cannot judge the ability of a fish to swim with his ability to climb a tree.” GIVE BOTH COACHES THE SAME TREATMENT and judge by their performance. Therefore, let us all rally behind JBO and TO and fully support them. I believe they have what it takes to return Gor Mahia to the Mighty and invincible days. To JBO and TO, please use all your vast knowledge of world football to create a FOOTBALL TEAM out of this group of hugely talented but disorganized and selfish footballers. Do not shy away from cracking the whip on errant players. If doing this will help take Gor Mahia back to where it rightfully belongs, then please do it.
WELCOME BACK HOME THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN.
To Tom Ogweno: I know we tried to sign you for Gor Mahia in 1996-1997 during the reign of Lesley Okudo as the Chairman of Gor Mahia. I cannot blame you for not signing as you had to secure your future first by taking the military job. You have a second chance to serve Gor Mahia. Please grab it and run with it. You had the correct the attitude as a player, now try and impart that on these players too. Good luck Tom in your new appointment.
Thank you all.
may be amuzungu from an anglophone origin for one of awono’s problems was language not some one with limited comand of english and possibly not an englishman for they have no coaching mantle
Bwana has no faith in ogweno and ogolla that why he is still looking for mgoso from europe.
Thanx for playing your part GBwana and the EC, you didn’t wait until its too late…never the less, let the new incubents know that we want nothing but RESULTS! no matter the circumstance….YES WE CAN
I wish he could have held his breath.
I said here before and @LE PASTRE above has confirmed it that BWANA’s actions so far and especially on BOBBY leaves us baffled and it just proves that were it not for his buying his way to the office by purchasing air tickets for the team to Mombasa last year when the club could least afford them, he would not have been voted in as he does not qualify to hold the position he was elected to (SG) in such a big club like GOR!
i hardly hear from rachier nowdays why on commentry issues yet he is the team manager
