Gor Mahia to enhance accountability

Kenyan Premier League (KPL) giants Gor Mahia will be the first club in the history of Kenyan football to establish structures for online transactions in a bid to foster transparency as they are set to launch an MPESA payment account.

Tuesday launch

The launch will be held on Tuesday 15 May at the club’s offices at the Nyayo National Stadium and the club’s vice chairman Faiz Ochieng says the club’s supporters are invited to the event.

Faiz observes that the development is a big leap as they look to ensure the club’s affairs are run transparently, since it will even enable fans to get match tickets online.

Transparency and accountability

-Gor Mahia will be launching the MPESA account on Tuesday afternoon at the club’s offices in the afternoon at 1400hrs, all the loyal fans are invited to the event. This is one of the major steps we are taking to ensure that we have transparency and accountability in our operations.

-We also want our fans in future to be able to get hold of our tickets hassle free as we aim to establish e-ticketing, he said in an interview with futaa.com.

  • Great but have the accounts published quarterly and of coz the yearly audited accounts.

Note this is an efficient and effective means of collecting funds but we(i) still insist fans MUST BE INFORMED OF THE EXPENDITURE SIDE.I think everyone who contributes to GMFC is entitled to this info.

All the same well done EC on that one the journey of 1000miles starts with a single step.

Bravo Bloggers i think we were among the very first to call for this facility. We are not that still born after all!!!

This is the best news. We have been agitating for MPESA ACCOUNT for a while now. As ODUOR 12 says we got to be informed how this cash is spent. It should not just be a case of effective collection of funds only to be misused. Read; KRA collects taxes promptly and efficiently only for some dudes in Govt to squander.

@ODUOR 12 & EBLAZING DIVA i like ur comments but would say i prefer we go slowly on this issue in that we take a stride each. 1. First efficiently maximise the revenue collection 2. Redefine our goals both short and long terms ie restructure the club laws by re-defining roles, responsibility& communication channels, reduce or eliminate redundancy at all levels & sectors of the club, set out targets, appraisal and evaluation method 3. Check out on our expenditure ie recurrent on daily basis 4. maximise the stakeholders wealth ie playing&coaching unit and sponsors welfare and fans value for money. All this i say for my GOD and CLUB KOGALO GOR MAHONO. Vision mission and short term targets. Vision 2030

Gor Mahia will soon be into big money and thats why the club doesn’t need jockers in positions of authority. Some office bearers may be tempted to dip their hands in that cookie jar.Gor needs the Martin Oduor Otieno’s and Evans Kidero’s and Michael Joseph’s in positions of leadership or board members in a yet to be thought of Gor Mahia board of directors in Gor Mahia Investment Club.

  • Was surprised to read some EC member saying that he didn’t know that we play Western Stima on Wednesday. This is something even us outside the EC were aware of. Surely to take GM forward we need to change our thinking and be proactive on some things. The bar for EC membership will be raised even higher and those not upto those standards will stand no chance of leading GM.

Do we have a say when other teams exploit our pockets in terms of gate collection?
I realized teams charge us more even when we have to peep through wire meshed stadiums just because we travel in large numbers. This was noted when we played sony in nakuru where they literaly crossed the typed 300 and wrote 500 bob in biro pen.
Good step kogalo, we need to move on and think big. We shall have our own stadium if we think real.

Sorry fellow Kogallo followers, but what exactly is this MPESA Account for? I would be very exited if Gor was launcing an e-commerce site where we could purchase season tickets, replica jersies etc. How is this MPESA going to benefit the club. Is it by sending sh. 100 to support the club? I beg to be educated. For God and my club Kogallo.

  • I completely do not understand the relevance of the heading and the story details, what has opening an MPESA account got to do with accountability.

Accountability is opening your books to scrutiny, so interested parties (club members) are able to see how their club funds are spent (or misspent). I also don’t understand why this would be news worth printing.

We must set the bar high for K’ogalo to get to the next level, an official talking about accountability when opening an MPESA account is honestly disturbing.

Eh Bro Kosero & Ondiegi.. I tend to agree but may be it starts from there (The Accountability).

I still wonder why or how the Jerzey thing is not resolved to the extent that some are ‘adidas guys’

Really without rubbishing the Mpesa thing that has taken people by storm, i still wish the e-commerce thing would do us more good as we buy advertised GM Branded goods.

All in all lets wait and not just see but participate.

Lastly, if the Mpesa ‘innovation is not for commercial venture then as usual we are still not weeding the pathetic harambee begging culture long cultivated in our society by politicians.

  • we am personally pleased with this idea but do we have the institutions to manage this new phenomenon we really needed to change they way gor is run not EMPESA ACCOUNT for this club must be run by a CEO who is answerable to to a board not EC this will help us avoid this wrangles like the ones in efisi now am in town and shall be in for the tomorrow’ s match blogger s meeting date please

  • Poor GM fans. When there is no Mpesa account we cry for one when we have one we ask what is it for. When we are performing poorly some ask for a Mzungu coach but when he surfaces some wonder why the local coach could not be left to handle the team. Same thing when we win or lose. Mara the players, tech bench and EC must go mara they are the best thing after sliced bread. Let’s all realise that all these things we want will come gradually but with proper planning. The Mpesa account can be used by fans to send cash to motivate the players instead of the handouts we give them. We can also use the account to clear the bus loan; if there is any money still pending. This is among other things but we have to be vigilant on the accountability.
I also hear that we now have an official website gormahiafc.co.ke. Congrats to the EC for bringing this request to life. Hope it will be interactive enough. Looking forward to seeing the players, tech team and EC feature on the site and answering our very many questions

Bwana Dan, I am one person who has never supported this MPesa thing as much as a number of bloggers have made alot of noise about it. First things first. This idea of just sending money to Gor because we want to support the players, in my opinion cannot just work. How many of us are doing the same to support projects in our rural homes or even our needy brothers and sisters? Very few. I doubt it will be Gor that will succeed especially during this ecomonic hard times. I am on record saying that personally I will not. There are better ways of contributing to Gor than just contributing money (hand outs) that I am not sure how its going to be used. For God and my club Kogallo

This is a step towards the right direction. We hope it will:
    a)increase accountability, transparency and increase
    revenue to the club
    b)enhance security
    c)increase efficiency in service and
c)ease congestion at the gates like we have
    experienced in previous matches.
In more than one occasion I’ve felt pain when I saw those in charge of gate(tickets) at Nyayo National Stadium selling same ticket (in Harambee Stars matches) thrice or even four times….in the sense that one comes with the ticket at the gate, it’s not torn/destroyed, same ticket circulates and gets back to be re-sold to another person and it’s same story in the watch of officers at the gate. By the way who is normally in charge of these Harambee Stars’ tickets? As for Gor Mahia tickets, we don’t have any issue and with MPESA idea it will be better.

With the e-ticketing,this will probably enable the K’Ogalo fans to access the tickets efficiently.
Its a millestone for Gor Mahia, once again KEEP IT UP!

  • NEVER DESPISE YOUR HUMBLE BEGINNINGS, SAYS THE BIBLE

Yesterday marked another milestone in the history of this great club for the launch of an M-PESA account to the club.

The idea was first mooted by fans when they were banned from entering the stadium because of their unruly and unsportsmanlike behaviour. They wanted to support the club wherever they are away from the field.

The electronic money transfer service is a revolutionary idea that will enhance accountability and transparency. Fans only need to demand a manifest or printout to see how the funds are utilized. I am proud to note K’Ogalo is the first club in Kenya to embrace the technology. Many churches now in Kenya use this service to improve their revenue? And why not Gor Mahia.

The bible teaches us never to despise our humble beginnings. These, to me me are the building blocks of a strong foundation. I am equally elated to learn that our official website which was still under construction is about to go live! May I salute the chairman and the EC for a job well done.

Finally let me take this early opportunity to wish our boys the best as they tackle the diminutive Western Stima today at the city stadium. Our resolve to bag all the maximum points remain unchanged.

    See you guys there!

We do not need an m-pesa account. What we need is to operationalise the branch offices so pay an annual membership fee of kshs 1,000. As proud fan of Gor Mahia fc, I feel that our club is above this cheap fundraising activities given our fan base. I am sure we attain this figure and forget sponsorships with strings attached.
