Gor Mahia in Africa

Gor Mahia in the 2016 Africa Champions League

Gor Mahia faced off with CNaPs of Madagascar in a rematch of the 2015 encounter in which Gor Mahia had prevailed. But this was a weakened Gor Mahia side. After having won the 2015 league unbeaten, they lost several key players. Gone was the lethal attacking trio of Michael Olunga, Meddie Kagere and Ali Abondo who had all left for greener pastures.

The technical bench was also in turmoil. Chairman Ambrose Rachier fired coach Frank Nuttall who had been demanding a raise. Fans protested and Rachier relented but the damage was done. Gor Mahia played a disjointed game and lost both home and away legs and were eliminated in the opening round. Frank Nuttall left shortly thereafter and landed in Egypt.
