Congo trip now in doubt

Having failed to raise enough money for their trip to Congo, Gor Mahia are now staring the prospects of not being able to fulfill their obligations in the Africa champions league.

“We fear we may not travel to Congo because we do not have the money to honour the match. The tickets to Congo alone for 30 people, including players and members of the technical bench, cost Sh2.8 million,” said chairman Rachier.
Rachier continued to reach out to fans.
He added: “It is possible that we can get tickets and travel, but the real issue is being able to take care of the team in Congo. We will be in a foreign country with no money to pay for accommodation and transport costs. “We are appealing to our fans and other well-wishers to come to our aid, otherwise it will be difficult to travel.” he said to the Standard.
Should Gor Mahia not travel to Congo, they could be staring at the prospect of a CAF ban.
“We are aware of the implications of not honouring the match, but we find ourselves in a situation whereby even if we are able to acquire air-tickets, we will have problems staying in Congo because of inadequate finances.” he said/
Aside from Tuesday’s Fundraiser, Gor Mahia also held in fundraiser in November that was attended by a number of politicians but fell well short of its targets.

I always say here categorically that we are the problem in this club,we talk a lot,we right a lot and honestly do nothing,we are better criticizing the EC and we dont provide solutions to the problem, gentlemen and ladies we own this club and we can take it to where we want but the problem we ever criticize,on tuesday we had an harambee at nairobi club i expected to see most of the people always shout here alot but i didnt see them and u go on making noise mara watakula pesa yetu mara what,we are just sitting here waiting for bad things to happen so that we can start criticizing the EC,if today ingekua we were playing n won that match now we could be reading like 65 comments and when it became to issues affecting the club u will realize the are hardly 5 comments,so am humbly request all of us to pull together 4 the betterment of our great CLUB

@Erico, Thanks for the same comments I aired back on this issue. When we win we are all Happy Gor fans but when we lose or when the team needs us we go into hibernation. From what I hear the SACCO has or will be launched. I expect the proponents of this idea to be very active to make this club fly instead of staying afloat. Personally I don’t know how a SACCO will work in a soccer environment but I know membership (not fans) can work to run the club. Another disturbing thing is when some of our fans discourage others from attending the Harambee. so sad. If Gor were not to make it to Congo it’s us fans with our bragging behaviours who will feel embarrassed. We still have the 350100 PayBill number to use. In the meantime I hope the EC has learnt a lesson. One thing they can do is to have Club ambassadors to drive all these initiatives. Even the 350100 initiative can be strengthened during game days and in the stadia

To be fair, people have given ideas. And there are a lot of ideas on the table. The clun has not implemented any of them

  • Why a contingent of 30 Bwana Chairman.
Herein lies the problem. The EC and by extension the club is simply extravagant in addition to having transparency and accountability issues.
A contingent of 20 would suffice and cut the ticket bill to kshs.1.7 million and leave a million for the other expenses.

@ Gichy-Article on FKF disbanding was probably an April Fools Joke will stops at midday on that particular day.
@Erico Jarare- please cool down. Suggestions of possible solutions overflow on this site just peruse the archives. Yes we’re ready to pull together to for the sake of this great club but not to line peoples pockets.
The problem is people don’t trust the administrative structure of GMFC.

Case in point why did Jakom register GMFC Sacco only to sit on the certificate of registration. Why not operationalize the GMFC Sacco
The problem is people don’t trust the current administrative structure of GMFC.

    • On a personal note, i feel the amount i pay unquestioningly for VIP is all i can give my beloved club. There have been instances when the figure is advertised at 500/- only to reach Nyayo Stadium and pay 600/-. On other instances the figure has risen to 1,000/-. I always pay and will never bribe anyone to let me in.

I’m expecting to spend at least 10,000/- on the gate charges for home games, both local and international including friendlies. But that is all i can give this season to Gor Mahia. Please can someone calculate what this figure multiplied by all the fans attending games at VIP adds up to? Then work out Terrace charges.

We had a free weekend before Congo but nobody thought of even organising a friendly match to try and generate some money which i’m sure would have been better than the harambee. If the elected office can’t find a way to plan and budget with the gate collection, then pole sana.

      • @ The Villager you’ve raised a valid point. It is this financial budget/potential from fans like yourself that EC should harness.

Paying all the kshs.10,000 as ticket fees means 35% will go towards statutory deductions (stadium hire 25% and ticket agency 10%) leaving GMFC with 65% or kshs.6,500.00.

Alternatively if we adopt the privileged membership model ( I propose the Sacco option) of 500/- per month, then the club will raise from you the Villager kshs.6,000 free of the “statutory deductions”. Members can pay this 1/4ly in advance to sort out the GMFC’s cash flow problems.

First privilege to Members- Discounted tickets VIP 200/- and terrace 100/-
** With your balance of 4,000/- you can attend 20 GMFC games i.e all the TPL league matches, some GorTV, Top 8 as a VIP.
GMFC will still get 65% of your 4,000 i.e 2,600 which plus the 6,000/- membership means annually GMFC will get 8,600 from your kshs.10,000 budget as opposed to kshs.6,500.
        THIS IS AN ADDITIONAL 2,600/-
Second privilege- Secured, privileged, guaranteed & vantaged entry and sitting for members. MEMBERS MUST BE TREATED PREFERENTIALLY FROM OTHER SPECTATORS/FANS
Let non-members pay 250 for terraces and 600 for VIP and only be allocated the fringe areas.
Forget City stadium until the terrace area is upgraded to proper standards.

        Why the Sacco model.
1.Sacco have punitive enforceable laws applicable against errant officials.
2.Members of a sacco can engage in investments to further stabilize the financial base of the club e.g merchandizing, purchasing training ground etc. MEMBERS WILL OFCOZ PURCHASE MERCHANDIZE AT DISCOUNTED RATE.
Remember the club will still have gate collections, Supersport grants as extra sources of income.

  • Where there are tyranny of brains we don’t expect things to go wrong. On the contrary that is what is happening to Gor Mahia. One word that can perfectly describe these happenings is “MEDIOCRITY”.

  • why should anyone call kogalo a great club ?????????

great clubs are never broke like hell.

kwani the EC never reads the blog?

they are really a let down …..if they cant operationalise the Sacco why don’t they outsource the service then let whoever will be running the Sacco pay themselves for a given number of years or even outsource for ever as long AS hii aibu ya umasikini itaondoka?

    what is so difficult here?

Why do we expect the EC to do everything for the club. For those with good ideas but avoid the places where those ideas can be discussed like the harambee have themselves to blame. At times change is forced
