Dawo praises Kogalo resurgence

Gor Mahia’s rise to the Tusker Premier League summit has been praised by club great Peter Dawo.

The side have risen from close to the relegation places to the top of the table, with an 18-match unbeaten run proving key to their ascent.

With two games to go, they are a point ahead of both Tusker FC and AFC Leopards, and are favourites to claim the title.

Dawo, who won numerous trophies with Gor over his playing career, has been highly impressed with the way they have risen to the top, and their displays along the way. He hopes that they can now finish the job by winning their two remaining games, and lift the club to glory once more.

“Gor Mahia are used to winning trophies every time. It is something we are accustomed to over the years,” said Dawo.

“Over the last decade though, we have failed to win the Premier League which is the most important trophy in the country. Lately, we have come close and have looked like genuine contenders.

“Now, we have the chance to finally land the big one and I have to congratulate the players because they have been excellent. We have risen from the ashes and no one expected us to be where we are. They have done a good job and I hope that they can finish it off,” he said.

Gor need to beat Muhoroni Youth and Thika United in their last two matches and Dawo says they need to maintain their focus.

“As a club, we have come a long way this season, and now we can see the finish line. There are two very important matches left and we need to keep our focus at the highest to ensure we win.”

“Players and the coach must not celebrate yet, despite the urge to. “It is not over until it is over and that is the way they should look at things. That aside, we are overwhelming favourites,” he added.

Gor, the Top Eight Cup holders, can complete a triple haul of trophies this season, if they win the league and the FK Cup. They are in the semi-finals of the latter.

True it’s not yet over until it is over, muhoroni coach should know kogalo supporters are not noisemakers as he claims, noisemakers are politicians

  • Well Put by Peter Dawo.Guys remain focused and top it up with discipline. The latter is key to any achievement. The Nation and the World is focused on you. i say this without prejudice. We once going on relegation so they said and now we are looking at the Trophy. Do not look at what is happening in the other Camp. If you had done that during those had times, you would have been discouraged, but you did not instead you just kept working hard and playing to the best of your ability. You were ready to be taught and to learn. Please play to the last game. We love you and appreciate each one of you. Shallom

Well put by Peter, let us all give the players the morale booster, we can all smell the cup, however, it’s still too early to celebrate. Let every K’ogalo surpoter come out on Sunday and cheer our team, Muhoroni can ponyoka na gate collections but 3 points ni yetu.

Dawo I echo your sentiments. Focus and not to celebrate before final match are the key words. These smaller opponents really give us hard time but I hope this time round Muhoroni Youth will not give us headache.

  • beware of muhoroni provocation. if ur keen on gor matches u would have noticed the hard tackling that most gor opponents apply. this was well executed by teams last season. remember the ulinzi match being abandoned. it also has been by leopards and tusker in their recent matches. the tackles as match as being delivered on the players are actually meant to provoke the gor fans ‘into action’ hence abandonment or simply gor players being duped into revenging. the trap abondo and fans fell to in a previous afc match.
i thnk this is one route or tactic muhoroni will most likely employ, given that they know they (players) have nothing to lose and most likely their boss will run away with the money since he himself knows he has a lost cause.he did it in nakuru and nothing happened, he will do it again. SO GOR (and fans)WATCH OUT, do not fall prey to this ‘new method’ of our opponents football.

  • Good to hear from Dawo “OMUGA” as they called him.He played at #9 very well with the late Anthony Ndolo;”Suzuki” and the late Onyango “Jogoo”.Oh and i forget the corner pass from Abbas “Zamalek” Magongo that Dawo headed to lift the Nelson Mandela Cup from Esperance of Tunisia.

  • Guys, we need to handle the Muho game like a final. They have literally survived relegation and might have nothing to play for as they will also have pocketed over 1m. Remember a team that has nothing to lose is the hardest to ever play. I hope the boys have enough motivation to silence our noisy neighbours.
    Mwakio, your prayers needed here.

Muhoroni is not out of the woods yet. If Rangers and Oserian win all their remaining matches and Muhoroni loses all its remaining matches then all the three will tie at 27 points. That is what makes Muhoroni a very dangerous team at this juncture.

I urge our boys to adapt a very cautious approach to this game. May we score enough goals early and then kill their flanks and neutralise their midfield. May we be at our very best.
