K’Ogalo recovered from dropping points against rivals AFC Leopards’ by demolishing struggling Nairobi City Stars at City Stadium on Wednesday

Gor Mahia were on fire edging out struggling Nairobi City Stars 3-0 in a mid-week Kenyan Premier League match played at City Stadium on Wednesday.

Goals by Ali ‘Teargas’ Abondo and Michael Olunga in the first half were proof of Gor Mahia’s dominance. Abondo banged home the opener with his trade mark shot in the sixth minute. Olunga had to wait until injury time to score the second. The lanky striker made a long run from the right flank and ended with the ball past ?Ronnie Kagunzi in goal.

Gor  Mahia started strongly as Michael Olunga’s header hit the City Stars post in the first minute. Then a subdued City Stars’ side were forced to make an early substitution when ?Eporima Sanneh was carried off the pitch after sustaining an injury on his head. His place was taken by Peter Musine.

?After that, Gor Mahia kept up the pressure and launched attacks from the flanks. In the 22nd minute, Ronald Otieno’s goal bound free-kick was kept out by Ronnie Kagunzi with Gor Mahia earning first corner of the match. One minute later, Ali Abondo coming in from the left flank, opted to go for goal instead, of passing the ball to Mousa Kagere. The resultant shot was blocked by Kagunzi.

In the 25th minute, City Stars had their first chance to go ahead but Bruno Sserunkuma’s effort went just wide. Seven minutes later Osca Mbugu’s effort should have counted had his dipping shot beat Boniface Oluoch. Oluoch was forced to make a finger tip save and with it gave City Stars their first corner of the match. At this point Imwene Celestine from City Stars was cautioned but it still did not deter ?Bruno Sserunkuma from making another effort.

This time he beat Musa Mohammed but his shot was not powerful enough to count. After that lost chance, City Stars paid dearly when Olunga scored Gor Mahia’s second goal and the Kawangware-based side will blame themselves for not covering their back well.

The second half was a well balanced affair. City Stars were the keener side to get an equaliser and kept Boniface Oluoch busy. Gor Mahia too did not give up their quest for a third making it an action packed half.

But it was still Gor Mahia, who were the better side running rings around City Stars backline. From one such move ?Innocent Wafula scored the third goal in the 70th minute. After that goal, Gor Mahia rested Michael Olunga for George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo and with it got a few more chances.

Ingo weka 3 stars on that splendid performance by Gor Mahia and if you don’t have any then make do with your usual asterisks.
Jokogalo let’s guarantee the 2015 wage for our beloved team. This could be the only impediment to the local 2015 titles (not title)

Wasn’t someone collecting money for players. We haven’t heard from him. Hope he isn’t a con

    • First “Gorplayer” kudos for the splendid work so far.
Two please kuwa mpole/na subira kidogo. Tony Anelka didn’t con GMFC last time and correctly channelled the money through the office. However much EC is vilified its the office that has yours/other players payment details.
We need proper payment structures not “pesa ya miguu” as then you will still demand payment from the club or else go on a “go slow”
Finally for financial stability and regular payments let’s try the SACCO MODEL.

    Opportunities for Corporate Sponsorship
It is really annoying that corporates have refused to sponsor teams with huge followings and fanbase like Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, which is largely due to political reasons. When we subscribe to Safaricom and Airtel services, we are not subscribing to promote CORD nor RAO or Jubilee or Uhuruto ideals and ideologies. This is really pathetic if local corporates are dancing to the tunes of tribalistic and political undertones of political appointees, who do not see football sponsorship as business with long term fringe benefits to their brands and business.

For example look at the free marketing tools Gor Mahia fans that still have been donning or wearing TUZO branded jerseys to date. What a free marketing for nothing? For the next three years, fans will still be wearing Tuzo branded jerseys. It is really pathetic and shameful for such companies to continue enjoying free marketing without reciprocating back to the club.

Where are corporate to seize the opportunities of sponsoring these great two popular teams in Kenya? These are the only two teams that can take football in Kenya to greater heights and hence require support from all the stakeholders. .

Banks, beverages manufacturers, mobile telephony, media, insurance companies and agribusiness are racking huge and abnormal profits at the expense of Kenyans. Where is there corporate social responsibilities and marketing initiatives? Can they explore free sponsorships even if the contracts elapsed?

These two clubs when they go outside the country to represent Kenya, they are not doing it to the regions where their supporters originate from but for good of the country. We need to get youths engaged into sporting activities and to withdraw from illicit activities like drugs, crimes and changaa menace but corporate, NGOs and government institutions are just watching. Where is the Ministry of Sports initiatives for such self supporting clubs can benefit from sponsorships?

Oduor 12 has floated the idea of SACCO so many times. Looks like this is not flying yet

A MUCH SIMPLER WAY (AND THIS HAS ALSO BEEN FLOATED) TO COLLECT MONEY AND QUICKLY IS TO OPEN UP TO WILLING SUPPORTERS 2000 IN NUMBER, TO CONTRIBUTE 5000 EACH PER YEAR. THIS WILL GIVE THE TEAM KSHS 10,000,000. IF YOU DOUBLE THIS NUMBER YOU HAVE 20,000,000. SURELY WE CANNOT MISS TO GET PEOPLE WHO ARE WILLING TO SUPPORT THE CLUB IN THIS SMALL WAY BUT TOWARDS A BIG OBJECTIVE.

IDEALLY WE SHOULD JUST STRIVE TO COVER 50% OR MORE OF THE ANNUAL BUDGET. THE FUNDS CAN AS WELL BE EARMARKED TO COVER SALARIES, KITS ETC. THE REST CAN COME FROM GATE COLLECTIONS AND MERCHANDISE

THE 2000 SUPPORTERS SHOULD NOT DEMAND TOO MUCH NOR PUT TOO MANY CONDITIONS TO YOUR CONTRIBUTION JUST DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY. THESE 2000 SUPPORTERS SHOULD APPOINT AN AUDITOR WHO WILL REPORT BACK TO THE MEMBERS HOW THE FUNDS WERE USED. WE CAN START A RECRUITMENT DRIVE, PASSING THIS INFORMATION TO ALL FANS WHO WOULD LIKE TO BE PART OF THE MOVE.

FREQUENT UPDATES OF TEAMS STRATEGIC GOALS OF THE CLUB, MORTIVATING THE PLAYERS, MEETING WITH THE OFFICIAL WOULD PRESENT AN OPPORTUNITY TO FEEL INCLUDED IN THE RUNNING OF THE TEAMS AFFAIRS.

THIS CAN BE A STARTING POINT TO GREATER THINGS. WE ARE TOO FAR AHEAD TO FAIL

WE CAN REQUEST THE CLUB TO OPEN UP A BANK ACCOUNT FOR THIS GROUP AND THE GROUP ASSIGN PEOPLE WHO WILL PAKE PAYMENTS OUT OF THE ACCOUNT JOINTLY WITH THE CLUB OFFICIALS.

WHAT IS SO HARD GOING THIS DIRECTION? CAN’T THE OFFICIAL MARKET SUCH AN IDEA?

    • Good Idea Omondi, but the only problem is that you will be demanding accountability until you are you are blue in the face but forgive me not even the angels let alone mere auditors can be able to enforce this on our EC.
Under the amorphous society’s act you can take the EC nowhere. At least the Sacco Act has some punitive legally enforceable measures against wayward officials.
Once you’ve given money to GMFC’s EC with its current structure that’s it, you have no recourse to tell them how to use it or even to account for it.
Case in point has the AGM been held?

Alternatively let’s go the Tuzo route- GET THE BUDGET FOR THE PLAYERS/TB AND PAY THEM DIRECTLY INTO THEIR ACCOUNTS.THIS WILL BE A SPECIAL PURPOSE ACCOUNT ONLY FOR PAYING THE SALARIES (OR A CERTAIN PROPORTION) OF PLAYERS/TB.

Let EC give the salary budget of the players and TB to this group of supporters and if its kshs.3M per month then the 2000 supporters (or 6,000 supporters contributing 500monthly) will need to contribute kshs 1,500 each or maybe kshs.1,000/500 as agreed with the EC.
This money goes into a specific salary fund/bank account from which the players are paid, directly into their personal bank accounts. This means that the salaries of our players will always be guaranteed. The signatories of this account should be 1 GMFC EC official and 2 officials from the supporters group. The group can them have their own independent auditor to audit this salary fund.
The onus then remains on the EC to ensure that other allowances are paid on time from Super Sport grant and gate collections.
The other issue is trust cum mobilization. When EC spearhead these fundraising initiatives the reaction is lukewarm or yet our matches always have a sizeable number of fans in excess of 7,000 of course with the issue of whether all pay.
Finally Omondi how about giving these potential supporters giving the club crucial financial support some special treatment like special entry/vantaged seating areas. This cost the EC nothing.

Wonder why we treat players like slaves. These players have mouthsto feed. Sons
And daughter’s to take to school. Rent to pay. They have hospital bills to pay. They live in Kenya where finding a job is a full time job. They entertain and re energies thousands of people to go back to work refreshed and more productive.

Can’t some one get it right so that we pay our players what they are worth. Commedians make a leaving they don’t attract the numbers such like God has in fun based very depressing.

Oduor 12 you have given all the ideas yet no action what a pity

  • I can assure you that if only the EC read some of the comments here and at least contacted the authors then at least some changes would be had from them. We should do a SWOT analysis. The solution is within. Lets brainstorm.

  • Congratulations team Gor Mahia for a job well done. Its interesting to note the struggles of Tusker, Sofapaka, Ulinzi Stars & Efusi Leopards. The mighty Kogalo keeps on piling the points. When is Kimanzi getting the sack? Happy days are truly here with us. Let’s beat Sofapaka on Sunday and increase the points gap even further. Thank you Lord for our victories.

well played..i like the all action-take no prisoner defender…Dirkir Glay. However, slight concern here…i noticed everytime we scored,5 players, namely captain musa, the 2 new fullbacks and gattuso did not go celebrate the goal scorer. That should be the team spirit…we see it even in the EPL…everyone runs to the scorer to celebrate.Even the keepers do it..eg Oburu of Bandari.C’mon guys…show some team spirit!!
