Gor Mahia are 2014 Kenya Premier League Champions

Gor Mahia beat Ushuru FC 3-0 in a tense encounter which they thoroughly dominated at the Moi stadium in Kisumu. Going into the match, Gor Mahia had maintained a studied silence compared to the noisy Ushuru FC coach Kennedy Kenyatta, a former goalkeeper with Transcom FC of Nakuru. The stadium was filled to the capacity with among others Raila Odinga in attendance. This should put to rest the supserstition that Gor Mahia cannot win when RAO is present.

Gor Mahia dominated from start to finish and put Ushuru on the backfoot. As early as the 5th minute, a well taken free-kick by Dan Walusimbi landed at the feet of Sserunkuma who failed to convert. George Odhiambo came close in the 25th minute but he was denied by the alert Ushuru goalkeeper Kevin Otieno. On 43 minutes, a brilliant 1-2 move between Blackberry and Sserunkuma ended with the latter once again coming very close.

Midfielder Eric Ochieng finally broke the deadlock in the 45th minute via a powerful shot. Gor Mahia went to the changing room leading 1-0. Taslisman Dan Sserunkuma netted the second on 50 minutes when he picked up a cross from George Odhiambo.

Evans Kiwanuka who had been a threat throughout the match, almost pulled one back in 61st minute with a well taken free-kick but Jerim Onyango was alert.

The third goal resulted when a Simon Mburu effort was deflected into the Ushuru goal by an Ushuru defender Richard Mboyi.

It was relief and elation for Gor Mahia fans who suffered heartbreak on the last day of the league in 2010 and again in 2012. Thousands poured into the field of play after the final whistle. Going into the match, Gor Mahia had to win the much to be assured of the title. A loss or  draw would have put their fate in the hands of the Tusker-Sofapaka match. In the end it did not matter as Gor Mahia won 3-0 while Sofapaka were held 2-2 by Tusker. FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya congratulated Gor Mahia.  “It was a tight race to the finish which made it an exciting season,”

Some people we cannot forget in this memorable season —-

To Ambrose rachier, we salute you for your leadership

To the rest of EC, despite the clamour for change , you remained resolute

To TB, even in defeat you believed in yourselves

To James Siangaa, you are the reason we are all this crop of players today

To LOGA, we will never forget you for instilling today’s winning mentality to the club

To BW, Your tactics were sometimes questionable, but you fought battle and believed in the players

To NUTALL, you inherited a disenfranchised squad and turned them into true champions

To bloggers branch, particularly oduor 12, the villager, albert kosero, barefoot bandit , dan original, okoth Kabila, Mwakio P and many others, the positive and negative criticisms helped propelled the club forward and leadership shown in fundraising 25K for the club is a record

To goons and those who invade the pitch , f*ck you all and may you live to stop messing with kogallo brand, we desperately need sponsors.

To tuzo, your unceremonious exist taught us a lesson in financial management. Who would have thought of 350100!

To Kidero, we salute you highly, it’s unfortunate you cannot be the patron of this great club.

To myself, in defeat I remained ‘ realistic, in a win, I remained ‘ realistic ‘ and even after today’s historic win, I still remain ‘ realistic ‘

Let’s break and refocus our energy for 2015 and hopefully this time we shall make it three in a row…….the nostalgic 1980’s is back ?

Lastly, let’s not forget to beef up the squad in December , they are obviously glaring weaknesses that limit mighty kogallo from conquering africa.

As we move forward in happiness, today I wear proudly kogallo jersey and will celebrate till the break of dawn……at the back of my jersey, the print speaks for itself CHAMPIONS ONCE MORE …..’ I remain forever realistic.’

Have a ‘ realistic’ celebrations, bloggers.

Congrats team for being 2014 KPL Champions. We return all the glory and honour to the Almighty Lord in the mighty name of Jesus Christ for the sweet victory over Ushuru and being champions of KPL 2014.

We do humble ourselves with thanksgiving and praises to the mighty Lord and our savior Jesus Christ.

We could have not achieved this without our hardworking players, technical bench led by Frank Nuttal, EC led by Ambrose Rachier and our fans that are always there for the team. fans you have done it well and let us keep the light shinning as we prepare and recruit for 2015.

Let me also thank the bloggers for engagements, contributions, support, criticisms, corrections, information flows, encouragements, etc. May the Almighty God be with you and bless you abundantly.

It’s the beginning of an era of dominance. With Nuttal we will see exquisite recruitments in the off season and I see Kogalo making a mark in next year’s regional and Africa commitments. Congrats the greatest team in Kenya.

Thank you very much team kogalo, I mean everyone, it was even sweeter remembering the difficulties that the team went through this year; any other team would have broken down with all these problems. Congratulations once again. However the hard work starts now, you must conquer Africa at worst shake it such that they get to know us

CONGRATULATIONS are in order. A squad that was labelled below average, A EC that was labelled clueless, amongst other adjectives it is good to be winners all over again. To Nuttal thanks for believing in the team and to the EC I believe the occurences of the just-ended season will be a good lesson for us. For now let’s enjoy the moment

Looking back I just return all glory to God for answering to my silent wishes as per excerpts from my postings yesterday:

Barefoot Bandit posted on November 7, 2014: “It is a pity Baba Kizito will miss this big game. However, from what I have learnt about Frank Nutall, I will not be surprised if that chance is given to Israel Emoge or Hebert Kompany. Just imagine Israel Emuge in the midfield….” and

Barefoot Bandit posted on November 7, 2014:
“As for Sofapaka Vs Brewkenge I don’t care what happens there, however, I hope Brewkenge will repeat what they are good at, which is: field 12 players. Actually I wont mind if they did as usual and fielded 12 players against Sofapaka. Perhaps that way they will be able to snatch at least a draw.”

God you are so faithful and we sincerely thank you for this far you have brought us.

congratulations to the team. well deserved .but my mood was spoiled again by very idiotic, berberic, brainless behavior of our fans. I don’t know what can be done to stop them from spoiling the brand of the team.

Congratulations 2 the Gor Mahia fraternity 4 capturing the TPL 2014 crown.
We captured the last trophy available 2 us. Well done Nutall (I like this tatu tatu thing), well done Dan “Flava” 4 capturing the Golden boot, well done Eric Ochieng (you’ve proved yourself) WELL DONE TEAM.
TB & players can relax 4 a bit but EC & fans/members have a lot of strategizing 2 do.
We’ve seen what harambees can do, what sponsors can do, WHAT CAN MEMBERS/FANS REALLY DO?
OF THAT CROWD IN KISUMU HOW………

lets translate this huge fan base into financial support for GOR. send something to 350100. we do not really need those hot headed so-called sponsors who would even want us to sell our birthright to get morsels from them. ..and that tuzo label should be wiped from the team bus. it makes the bus to look old

  • As the Players take a well deserved rest as champions, we must not forget that we did this the hard way. On reflection, our fans can do better than waiting to give their contributions late in the season. But take nothing away from these people, at their vociferous best, they have no match in Kenya football. The crowd we witnessed in KISUMU of course minus the invading of the pitch if harnessed can be a huge source of income to the club. They are a real a force to be reckoned with when they are in their true element. These migrating followers of Kogalo make us play 30 matches at “home” every season.
