Gor Mahia maintain low profile ahead of Grand Finale

While Sofapaka and Ushuru have been making headlines with ludicrous statements, Gor Mahia have been busy preparing for their last match of the season.

Kogalo held their last training session in Nairobi on Wednesday morning then departed for Naivasha where they camped until Thursday before leaving for Kisumu.

The last time the two sides met, the match ended in a barren draw at Kasarani last May under current Harambee Stars coach Bobby Williamson.

Gor Mahia will be looking to end a run of bad luck that has plagued them on the last day of every season since 2009. Coach Frank Nuttall is well aware of the challenge ahead but has been busy trying to put his team at ease.

“We do not regard it as pressure. We know it is a challenge and we embrace that challenge. We look forward to it and we look for a solution to the challenge. ”

Gor Mahia will have to take on the taxmen without dependable midfielder Geoffrey Kizito who is now the club’s second leading scorer. The good news is that everyone else is healthy and raring to go.

Partisan Support

Once again Gor Mahia will be counting on the strong partisan support they received in Kisumu last weekend and that the club has always received at the lakeside town. So passionate is the support that legendary coach Len Julians on a visit to Kisumu once remarked that “If Gor Mahia could translate the support they receive in Kisumu into finances, they could be one of the richest clubs in the world”. So passionate is the support that there was a time that Gor Mahia always played at least one continental match in Kisumu and when Kenya hosted the CECAFA club cup, Gor Mahia opted to play home games in Kisumu. The lakeside fans will once again be counted on to lift the club.

Club Chairman Ambrose Rachier has assured that the club has taken the neccesary steps to ensure security and that the club will accept the results.

“I want to assure everyone that Gor Mahia will accept outcome of Saturday’s match and our fans will not cause any problems over the result,” he told Goal.

He added: “I also want to assure KRA that we will give them adequate security and make their stay as comfortable as possible. On our decision to take the match to Kisumu, it is meant to give our fans from the town an opportunity to watch this team again. We are also looking at possibility of playing more matches in Kisumu next season and this is just the beginning.”

Hired Trouble Makers

Secretary General Chris Omondi further explained the rationale for moving the match to Kisumu.

“We have reliable information that some youth are being recruited to cause trouble on Saturday. There are forces who are doing everything possible to paint us in bad light.

“The information we have is that the forces behind the shameful plan are purchasing fake club merchandise which the hired goons will then don and instigate violence. The plan is to cause trouble during or immediately after the match,” he explained.

“Based on this, we have decided to move the match to Kisumu where we feel more secure,” he said. “We are urging our fans to have decorum like they did last weekend and to turn up in large numbers and support the team.”

Gor Mahia have reportedly hired hundreds of members of the General Service Unit to provide security.

It is a pity Baba Kizito will miss this big game. However, from what I have learnt about Frank Nutall, I will not be surprised if that chance is given to Israel Emoge or Hebert Kompany. Just imagine Israel Emuge in the midfield. Let me add my voice to that of another blogger: should we beat KRA in Kisumu (and there is no reason why we should not), there will be need to allow the team their moment with the trophy. PLEASE LET US NOT INVADE THE PITCH.

I am already in the Lakeside town and the mood is celebratory. Just this morning alone I have counted at least 15 motorbike riders flying the Gor Mahia flag. Come let us cheer our boys. Come let us motivate our team with finances. Even that 50 bob will make a difference. Njooni jameni.

If I was Nuttal I would give the chance to Daniel Onyango as he is a natural midfielder. Otherwise I would do what BW did some times back by taking Calabar to the centre and having Emuge and Shakava to man the defence. But we also have Mburu and Kariuki as midfielders so we should be OK there though the ‘weight’ of Baba Kiziti will definitely be felt.

All the same this is a game we should win and shut down everyone and make the Sofa Tusker game a dead rubber

Is it true that Gattusso is also doubtful for the game? Remember we have already ‘lost’ Baba Kizito. By the way what happened to Musa?

I believe whatever the scenario, the Coach has a very effective antidote. It would be sad to miss both midfield dynamos (Kizito and Gattusso) but then that will just give an opportunity for other stars to be unleashed. All in all let us pray that Gattusso plays.

On another note, I admire the coolness with which our EC and the Tech Bench is managing the build up to this match. Interestingly no “noise” or call it press releases are coming out from the officials or the players. I suspect Coach Nuttall must have imposed a media curfew and this is why we are not being treated to too much talk from the players as was the case just before the Machakos match against Sofapaka. The silence is exciting and it must be unsettling the competition and their bank-rollers. At least the have seen that we are cool and not perturbed at all by their oporopaganda. All the best team. This evening I will go to “have a feel of the pitch” and thereafter feed the team on some intelligence we have gathered on our opponents.

Its wonderful to have the visible unity of purpose currently experienced. I hope for the best. Its equally good that the chest thumping is this time round limited.

Its one thing the EC has got right this season, to move the match away from enemies..looking and listening around reveals just how much K’ogalo is hated, from players to managers, politicians all over..just what if almighty God decides to favour us again next season?!

    SHOCKING TREATMENT OF OUR PLAYER

Harambee Stars midfielder Kevin Omondi has been banned from entering South Africa. According to documents received by The Nairobian, Omondi was declared an ‘undesirable person in the republic of South Africa (SA) as from October 29, 2014.’

“When I got to the airport, the immigration staff took my passport then gave me papers to sign saying that I had outlived my welcome by months. I tried talking to the immigration officials about the contractual obligations between me and Moroka Swallows but they could not listen.

“Wanafikiria huko kwao ni heaven. Wanaona nikama hapa Kenya, sisi tunateseka sana (they think their country is heaven and behave as if we are suffering in Kenya),” a seething Omondi told this writer.

The declaration of foreigner as an undesirable person reads in part, “In terms of section 30 (1) of the Act, you are hereby declared an undesirable person due to the following reasons: You are likely to become a public charge; you have overstayed by 155 days.”

“Who told them that I ever want to go back there? I have no desire to go back to South Africa. Those people have no respect for humanity. They treated me like a dog. Not even my childhood club FISA could subject me to such conditions,” he said.

“I had an opportunity of cutting a deal with Ajax Cape Town as well, but Swallows came calling too soon and I thought it was a good opportunity to take. After deliberately frustrating my efforts to acquire a work permit, the president sent me word that I should try playing for Cape Town FC in the lower tier league,” revealed Omondi.

Thank you Ndugu Erico Jarae. Karibu nyumbani.

As for Sofapaka Vs Brewkenge I don’t care what happens there, however, I hope Brewkenge will repeat what they are good at, which is: field 12 players. Actually I wont mind if they did as usual and fielded 12 players against Sofapaka. Perhaps that way they will be able to snatch at least a draw.

    Reply
  • All the best against KRA. All i know is that Gor Mahia will win tomorrow and Brewkenge (As Barefoot calls them) will win tomorrow.

On another note, fellow bloggers, don’t you think OKOTH JABILO should be our first chair of the Bloggers Branch. Sasa ni Kusema na Kutenda. Barefoot please follow up and ensure that the branch is born. We need to effect proper management in this club but we must have legitimate presence. I propose JABILO because he has shown that he is driven and also shown leadership that is very important in such a movement. ODUOR 12 can be the Treasurer in my opinion.

Fellow bloggers, when a group of people who share certain goals and values come together, it has to bear fruit. Let us not post here for eternity and have little or no effect on the affairs of our beloved club. Let us register this branch and push our agenda through.

Personally i’m an entrepreneur in the design and branding field and i feel bad when a huge brand like Kogalo is wasted and has to beg for meager resources every year. I know the true value of this brand and if the admin could post some past recorded estimates, you will clearly see that the brand is worth about Kshs. 300 million annually in advertising value.

Let us finish with KRA and get moving on this branch idea.

    All the best boys!

The Gor Mahia playing unit has been assured of handsome monetary rewards if the team wins today’s match against Ushuru, formerly KRA, and retains the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) trophy.
This good news for the players follows Thursday night’s funds drive for the club organised by Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero who helped raise over Sh4.3 million at the Railways Sports Club. Gor have played most of this season with financial problems following the withdrawal of Brookside Dairies through their Tuzo brand as sponsors at the end of March.
Their last match of the season, however, is one they face fully cognisant of the awaiting bonuses and the onus is on the squad to banish the taxmen at a venue they stomped to a 3-1 victory over Muhoroni Youth last weekend.
K’Ogalo have not won their last league fixture in the past four years, and a loss today would probably cost them the title if their closest competitors Sofapaka beat Tusker at Ruaraka.
The fundraiser was meant to raise the team’s morale and the club’s executive office led by example, raising Sh1 million, while Kidero weighed in with a similar amount and Football Kenya Federation supremo Sam Nyamweya giving Sh100,000.
Flamboyant Nairobi senator Mike Sonko donated Sh1.5 million with a number of politicians also making their contributions. Besides cash donations, leaders present urged club’s fans to embrace peace and support the team in a manner that will market the sport to other regions.
“The country’s football was revived by Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards. We are now making bigger strides in the national team and lower leagues due to the club fans who have been loud enough for others to see what’s happening in our stadia.
Banning fans in stadia is therefore killing football and so we must work together to ensure acts of hooliganism are eradicated,” Nyamweya told the small gathering at Railway Club.
“The architects and engineers have taken long in designing and doing other studies but at the end of it all we want to spend US$1 million (Sh85 million) on the City Stadium so that it becomes better than Kasarani,” said Kidero. Gor Mahia must win today’s match to guarantee their second successive title.
