Gor Mahia blank Muhoroni 2-0

Blackberry found the back of the net

Gor Mahia continued their climb towards the top of the KPL log when they beat Muhoroni Youth 2-0 at Moi stadium Kisumu on Saturday. Goals from George Odhiambo “Blackberry” and Jacque Tuyisenge floored the Kismu county based side

K’Ogalo came into the match knowing a win will push them close to the leaders Tusker who defeated Kakamega Homeboyz by a solitary goal on Friday at Mumias Complex.

The visitors started well and could have gone ahead in the 3rd minute, only for Musa mohammed to be flagged offside after putting the ball in the net. However, two minutes later, it was 1-0 when George Odhiambo rushed onto Khalid Aucho pass and put it past Farouk Shikhalo.

The hosts were pinned in their half with Ochomo guarded effectively lest he caused harm in the opponent’s goal. ‘Blackberry’ could have added a second in the 18th minute, but he failed to tap the ball in after a good corner.

It was a wake up call for the hosts, who pushed hard and won two consecutive corners, with Ouma doing well to limit Ochomo’s movement on the right. In the 32nd minute, Moses Arita should have equalized after using his body well to get passed Gor Mahia players, but failed to hit the target.

Four minutes later it was Ken Rono, who released a fierce shot which was unfortunately directed to the custodian. Gor Mahia came stronger in the second half but it was the hosts, who could have leveled matters in the 51st minute as Arita broke from the right, only to see his shot deflected for a corner.

They continued to attack but failed to be cautious, and Gor Mahia capitalized on that in the 59th minute as Tuyisenge did well to go past Muchika before banging it in. Gor Mahia were reduced to ten men in the 74th minute after Earnest Wendo received his second yellow card but the champions held on to another crucial win.

  • For those who were asking the difference between direct football and technical football now you got it.That was pure technical football. You now understand why B.berry is a technical player not by the goal but the intelligent movement around D area which gives attackers and defensive players time to positiogroup’s mselves. That is the football you will find in the .CAF group stage.Ze maria is a genius. He is able to get the BLACKBERRY out of G.Odhiambo.something most coaches failed.Football is not about kicking the ball forward and winning the league. It’s suppose to be and is an entertainment.today I got the value of my money. This man will take us far.It was technical and it was tactical.Got could have easily scored 5.Muhoroni never so the goals coming coz the game was too tactical. Now that is the GM class-the continental class.Let that be the foundation of GM play style.

  • Quite a good day in office for the Kogallo fraternity. I never found the chance to watch the match anywhere here in Garissa. I switched to KBC Channel 1 as a last resort only to find them airing a burial ceremony. Somebody please advice on the appropriate channel or TV station to watch Kogallo matches here in Garissa.

    • That was one of the most entertaining games Kogalo has played of late. Congrats to the boys. I was however a bit disappointed with Muhoroni Youth. Given their good form in the recent past, I expected them to give Gor a run for their money. I did not see this as Muhoroni offered little resistance to Kogalo. In fact had they utilized their chances, Kogalo should have scored at least 4 goals. I did not see much of top scorer Ochomo in that game. I like the way with which the coach rotates his players with ease. It is becoming difficult to predict his 1st 11. And can someone who is well versed in technical/tactical aspects of football help me here. Why did the Coach replace Musa Mohamed with Benard Odhiambo? Ordinarily I would have expected that since they were one man down, and in comfortable lead, the coach would replace a midfielder or a striker with a defender. But he replaced a defender with a defender. And actually replaced one of his most experienced defenders. Or did Musa sustain an injury? It appears the mo mementum is picking up slowly but steadily. Let us keep on supporting the team.

      • Even after going one man down, the boys still created a number of chances. In fact you could not notice that they were a man down. Today I got value for my money. Not just about the win; I also got good entertainment.

  • Jausenge’s goal was a sheer class act …I think today’s game was a combination of the huge fan base, some quality play and the state of the pitch. Kogallo trains throughout the week on artificial turf so kisumu suits their style.

Nevertheless, I must admit today there was improvement.

Question to the EC..relocate kogallo home games to kisumu for the second half of the season. I remember it worked wonders in the past and it’s a guarantee we shall win all our home natches in the second leg.

  • Good game by K’ Ogalo. I’m supprised that with the Muho form, Gor game made them look ineffective. I was happily impressed by the Gor passing game, it always seemed like they had one extra player even with ten men. Thats a great sign of technical improvement. Also impressed by Aucho. I still think that the Gor game is a tard slow. For Africa, Gor cannot reach the group stages with that show. I expect to see the Gor game improve as the coache’s philosophy settles in. Blackberry and especially Wafula still need to improve their game. Blackberry would increase his worth if he also plays as a provider at times.

  • Nairobi pitches are uncouth. Both Nyayo stadium and Kasarani though large but have poor surfaces, that is a shame for a city. You could see that gor mahia play the football you want to watch when playing away from Nairobi stadia. County gvt of Nairobi should also copy other counties and build a county stadium of its own standards. Shame on Kidero’s govt..!!! Again gor players train on artificial turf and anybody who is always keen will realise that they play nice to watch football in kisumu or during city stadium’s era than in Nyayo. Anyway that was a cracker…..nice display.

  • A lesson well learnt by muho coach who thumped chested himself calling on to discipline gor 2 days before the match. I remember last season same lessons were learnt by then thika utd coach, Tim breitte, when he kept claiming that he was gonna break gor unbeaten run and even moved the clash to kasarani only to cry foul after beatings. Ma local coaches wacheni pang’ang’a mob mkiprepare to play gor… it indicates clearly that you fear fixtures drawing you against gor!!!!!

  • AM VERY SURPRISED THAT NO BLOGGER OR NEWSMAN EVEN MENTIONED WHAT BERNARD ODHIAMBO DID IN THE SHORT TIME HE ENTERED THAT PITCH. Nutall nearly killed the career of one of the best defenders in Africa. Watch this space.

  • @ Jambita Tiny be advised that Gor Live games can only be viewed on Supersport 9 East or Supersport Select 2 which both require GOtv or DStv service provider connections as Star Times doesn’t have airing rights neither does Kbc

I watched as kogalo dismantle muho. It a game of its own class. The philosophy is getting its roots into the boys. Kisumu pitch befit Gor playing pattern. Zemaria awuoro. Ten players of Gor Mahia was equal to the tusk. Mighty Gor Mahia.

Thats how champs r made by beating teams which thinks that they r in gud form. I rem last wk adagala said that his team was going to teach Gor a lesson. This season the only team which I know did beat gor fairly was Ingwe but tusker was helped just they’r being helped to win matches. Now I’m only waiting 4r Mathare who believe they’re title contenders to chalenge Gor but I believe we shall beat them & also keep a clean sheet.

  • Even those teams that were lucky to win against gor mahia….AFC, tusker never beat gor by a bigger margin. Their wins were hard labored and only 1-0. Gor has won with convincing margins like 3-0 for kk homeboyz, 2-0 for thika, 2-0 for bandari and only Sonysuger escaped with a 1-0 loss. Others who managed a draw could not keep clean sheets against them. Me I really believe gor will win the league a fourth time in a row eventhough the title chase goes to the wire.

  • As the saying goes Rome was not built in a day. It took planning, time determination and mistakes. K’Ogalo is on the same path. The positive reactions that are coming now, are the opposite of some comments that have been made in the recent past. I think that even in our freedom to give opinions, the greatest virtue that we need to inculcate in us is patience. It allows us to piece together the complete picture of the progress of our team and this helps us to rejoice with them as well as pain with them. My dear K’Ogallo family members, as has always been, one game at a time and let us maintain the tradition of filling the stadium as we enjoy good football.

A few columns back the song was Sell BB, Keli , Agwanda, Ouma is a schoolboy not fit for Gor, Jerry should have retired last year, why recruit for 4m a player who won’t help the team. The song now is that Gor is on fire.
That’s typical of us. The patient ones are called EC stooges etc.
Let’s support the team with one heart, criticizing to correct where the faults are etc.
The potential aspirants should also assist now and not wait when things are pointing south to gain mileage
