Gor Mahia hammer Aigle Noir 5-1

Two goal hero: Nicholas Kipkirui

Gor Mahia are through to the 1st round of the CAF Champions League after an impressive 5-1 win over Aigle Noir of Burundi.

Additional Reporting from Citizen Sport

Gor Mahia marched on to round one of the CAF Champions League in style after burying clueless Burundian side Aigle Noir 5-1 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani  on Sunday.

The match was delicately poised having drawn 0-0 in the first leg meet in Bujumbura  a fortnight ago but every pundit expected K’Ogalo to carry the day at home and they did not disappoint.

Captain Kenneth Muguna led from the front giving K’Ogalo the lead in the 10th minute, and six minutes later, former Zoo Kericho man Nicholas Kipkirui widened the advantage for Steven Pollack’s men, scoring from a corner, before adding another  in the 38th minute, heading in from a throw ball.

In a frantic first half that saw Kipkirui claim a brace, Boniface Omondi missed to score from a one-on-one situation with the opposing goalie while Gor’s shot stopper David Mapigano had to be attended to after colliding with striker Kennedy Seburiba.

Gor continued from where they’d left in the second half, Dickson Ambundo putting his name on the score-sheet with the fourth, in the 68th minute, before Boniface Omondi added another.

Joash Onyango was a cog in Gor’s  defence with newly promoted player from the youth team Tobias Otieno showing his worth in the defence.

Mapigano was untested in the second half but the laxity cost him in the 79th minute with Aigle striker Jospin Nshmirimana tapping home a simple cross to make it 5-1

With six minutes to go, Ernest Wendo was introduced for Lawrence Juma in the midfield. The match ended 5-1 in aggregate.

Gor will now meet in round one, the aggregate winner between USM Algers of Algeria and Niger’s Sonidep who collide later today from 1900hrs.

Thank you J’Asego for flying out and viola we have coach and master tactician. K’Ogalo fasten your seatbelts for one season of very entertaining and logical football.

A question to the Administrator of this wall.
Why does it always take ages to post Gor Mahia results on this platform?

Following Gor Mahia’s emphatic 5-1 win over Burundian outfit Aigle Noir, a clash against USM Alger separates them from qualifying for the group stages of the CAF Champions League.

Alger beat Niger champions SONIDEP 3-1 at home and 5-1 on aggregate to advance to the First Round of the Champions League. The Algerian side are familiar foes to Gor Mahia after sharing a group in the 2017-2018 CAF Confederations Cup.

K’Ogalo registered a draw against them at home before a 2-1 loss away, which bundled the reigning Kenyan champions out at the group stage hurdle. Alger, however, are in deep financial crisis and are considering withdrawing from the tournament.

Gor Mahia will start the tie away to Alger and conclude the tie at home as they seek to make a debut at the CAF Champions League group stages.

A good show by the team. The speed was almost what we see in EPL/PSL . The depth is there in case we get the new players to join the fray in the next game. Hope Aduda/Ngala could be believed on that. Batambuze still has the touches and was impressed that he could play in the mid/forwad wing before his injury occurred. I liked the way Tobias kept the midfield and also the fact that for a long time none of our players was carded in the CAF match

During my sabbatical , a lot of good things happened , one being the shrewd recruitments we made , proof of which we witnessed yesterday , top of it being the new coach and Tobias , secondly the other Sweet thing that happened was the departure of Hassan Oktay , for whatever reason and also the departure of Harun Shakava , proof of both being what we witnessed yesterday .
Finally , in the course of the week , one Joash Onyango said something that totally made sense , that Ze Maria is the one coach he respects the most , these other ones with an exception being Logarrusic were , let me just leave it there.

@Jakoyo, you never cease to amaze me. CL is sponsored by Total and CC by 1XBet. Gor are in CL and therefore there is no conflict whatsoever. Last season Gor featured in CC group stages hence the reason for not wearing sportpesa printed jersies.
Otherwise, team will go far if everything runs as it is. Congrats to team kubwa.

And according to the fixture list, we are penned to start away. I hope CAF will not change this fixture arrangement. As for those calling the team mediocre, shame on them. We are yet to watch them play and to imagine one branding them mediocre is utter myopic.

Congrats boys for an epic display that made us the fans, reach cloud nine. The offensive style was mouth watering, an epitome of fluid and flair. The appetite for goals was was massive. Inspiration, teamwork, character and ambition was hallmark. Indeed one of the juiciest display we have ever yearned for from our team. All the departments were superior and supurb. Everybody concerned did his home work well and the reward was handsome. At some point they say, victory and success can get into someones head. I hope this team wont be blinded, and made to lose focus by this win. This is just the start yet each and every team in the tournament has its strength and weakness calling for different approach and tactical adjustments. We must forever keep pressing on no matter what. The boys must instead use the sundays sumptuous victory and tempo, as a springboard, to propell them to much bigger victories, triumphs and success, specifically in the caf tournament this season. Believe in yourselves and #conqure africa.

  • Congrats boys for a wonderful performance! I say wonderful because locally, not many teams know how to create and score goals.

It’s also good to see a team of mostly local lads performing. That has been my dream for a while now. When the chair recruited 18 players he said he had set the ground for dominance for the next ten years but many people made noise on the many signings. These boys are going to do great things.

    Congrats again!

I was impressed to see the treasurer manning the gates yesterday and helping the police enforce the ‘no-message no-entry’. Tough job it was for her but it was all because a food section of our fans still don’t believe that the gate entrance should be paid for. Not sure the way to change that mentality since unfortunately tjey are the ones who demand accountability as well as good performance. What was missing was a faster digital process to authenticate the ticket. The one that was being used cannot be used if we get close to thirty thousand fans.
The next step is to go digital membership. And I add it here again. Liaise with a bank, get a membership card (at most they will cost 100 Bob). We then pay from
home , get the card scanned and we watch the games hassle-free while the club gets the money directly. That way the gate corruption will reduce (it will never end though since we are all wired differently)

Congratulations to the entire team for a job well done. This came at the right time and has raised the stakes for every player. Every one of them will want to do their best while donning the green jersey. It was such a motivating factor both for the continental and the local front. It is a fact that the more one progresses, the tougher it becomes. This however should not suggest that as team being going through this phase we have no chance as some are already indicating. I think that we ought to rejoice at the achievement of winning emphatically. It did not come on a silver platter. Just because the team won with a big margin is not a indication that Burundians were weak. I would simply say our Team did well and were on the top of things. I am however not oblivious of some work that needs to be done. No team has ever had it a hundred percent. Back to the basics operation stadium attendance anywhere and everywhere i anzeeeee

  • Anybody who has been keen would have noticed that there is a huge difference between the Gor we witnessed in Cecafa , the Gor that played Caf 1st leg in Burundi , the Gor that played Bandari in the Super cup and the Gor that played yesterday .
Now the Gor that played yesterday is the Gor that was playing the kind of game that suits our phisical stature and an answer to what one blogger on this wall decried as our disadvantagewhen playing the stocky Arabs and West Africans .
Were Barcelona , courtesy of their small stature , similar to Gor’s ,to play the Shakava like ” to whom it may concern ” long and high balls , they (Barcelona ) would have been the most useless team in Europe , but because of their stature , they designed a kind of play that keeps the ball on the ground , and that is the same form of play that Polack is intimating and what Ze Maria intended and I pray he is given the time and cooperation to actualize it .
What Gor is attempting to play now is what we were always known for , Afc was known for its Shakava-ism and its about time we go back to it and with local players , they are available .

Teddy Sofaset, please give the devil it’s due, El Capitan did his bit for Gor Mahia or should I say never lost a match to Efusi when he was out there as our Captain. PLEASE give him a break and let’s concentrate on supporting the young tem that we hope will surpass the achievements of yesteryears. Let us support the present Gor Mahia rather than castigate the past one.

      • @Le Pastre , the context of my post was on the long and high balls vis a vis the short ground ,passes and with moves initiated from the back and a clear path to the frontline through the midfield and not over the midfield .
My usage of Shakava as an example is only to the extent that he best exemplifies that “Long and high balls to whom it may concern ” , it had nothing at all to do with whether he had lost to Afc or not .
It was basically a compare and contrast issue but YES am glad he is gone .

Jonny, Jonny where are you? I do agree with your observations about Kipkirui timing his runs. I personally made the same remarks as we cheered the team on in the stadium. However, they were not 40, but only 6. As for the full backs helping in the attack, I think the two, particularly Wellington did that to some extent, although not efficiently as Karim or Solomon Nasio would. If you remember, the first cross from the right flank in the first half was Wellington’s. In the 2nd half, Bon Omondi who playing in front of him preferred to make runs and bring in the crosses himself instead of drawing the No. 3 in and creating an avenue for Wellington to make an overlapping run. By the way sir have a look at the following chats and give me your take:

Please sir may you tone down the sour grapes. There is a time for all that and that time is long gone. The transfer period is over.
It is unfortunate the kind of players Gor Mahia signed did not meet your very high threshold. These ones are now here with us. The ink in their signature has dried. It is too late now for any changes and that bitter attitude will only ruin your health and interfere with your input that will be much welcome when the transfer window opens in January.
Ever heard of ‘Jonny come lately’ sir? Let us just join ranks now and support the boys so that they can give value for the money they are earning.
