Gor Mahia readying for Mathare Clash with friendlies

Kogalo will face off against Mathare United on Wednesday in the next Kenya Premier League match. The match will be played at City Stadium which Gor Mahia finally secured amid some difficulty. As Gor Mahia had been banned from Nyayo stadium, their only option was City stadium which is difficult to book on weekdays.

Mathare has been a difficult team to beat in the last few years. A match against them usually ends in a draw. But Mathare too have been struggling since the departure of coach Salim Ali to Sofapaka. New Coach Zdrvako Logarusic appears to have hit the ground running. No sooner had he arrived in Nairobi did he immediately take the players through their paces on Friday. He noted some weaknesses which he hopes to fix.He noted the lack of proper psychological approach which has also been noted by many fans. Kogalo players seem to give up on certain occassions. He also noted the lack of player movement which would explain why despite dominating posession, Kogalo never seem to create clear cut chances.

He  had a chance to test his new strategies when Gor Mahia played a friendly against Embakasi combined on Sunday at City stadium. The game was won 9-0. This came after Kogalo won 6-0 against Finlays in another friendly. Against Embakasi, goals came via Baldwin Ngwa (2), Ibrahim Kitawi (2) Moses Otieno, Dan Makori, Demonde Selenga, Rama Salim and John Kiplangat.

Fans hope that this is a sign that the goal drought is coming to an end.

Getting a foreign coach was a step in the right direction. I wish it was done earlier. The players needed an injection of new ideas.

Am almost through with my MA in Counselling and Soc and would like to tell the Fans that it is our attitude that is creating the psycholigical imbalance in Gor players we are too intolerant and agressive , can we support ourt team for better and for worse without showing tabia mbaya ? psychological pressure might explain why Masika ditched Gor and we cpold not sign victor ochieng , just like in employment , word gets round as to who are bad employers , KOGALO HOOYEE

Guys that was not an opposition worth appraising K’Ogalo performance. How I wish we could have played KRA or MAHAKAMA some of strongest city in the lower tier league.

If you watched the game, you will agree with me that the team was a just a mis-match from the word go and their is nothing tangible to write home about the final scores margin.
Mathare’s game will be a different ball game that we should expect very tough opposition.

I did not see any formation or tactical pattern being tried out with either of the teams that played in the first and the second halves respectively and to be frank most of our players still lack the basic skills like ball control, opening up , concentration during the play and clinical finishing on a one on one situation with the goal keeper. Best of luck for K’Ogalo on Wednesday . Just train extremely hard on the weakness exposed during the friendly.

  • The match against embakassi could have ended with atleast fifteen goals for gor but gor strikers are fond of wasting clear cut chance.ngwa is my only hope in that position, the rest have a long way to go.some cant even control the ball.
Rama,Kevin omondi, gattuso, kitawi and david owino are much ahead of the rest.
A goal or two against mathare will be good enough to bring back player morale

@ 18 odhiambo p. owuor did you watch the friendly match yesterday? My comrade the only way to encourage improvement in our team is by constructively criticizing and pointing out the weakness as witnessed during the play.

If i read comments posted by O.Trailer,Creative village and Mcosweto; i will certainly agree that those are the true reflections of what transpired yesterday. Real K’Ogalo fans should stop their wishful narratives of always comparing “ASERNAL” recovery in EPL with GM misfortunes. The two scenario’s are world apart in terms of ideology and practical application.

The reality is that without NGWA our striking options in terms of skills and the fighting spirit are limited, without kevo, rama, kitawi, kiplagat and the likes of moses, odhis, akumu and kiplagat our midfield creativity is doomed to fail and lastly without kasaya, owino, musa ,nasio ,wekesa and colly both our goalkeeping and defensive strategey is doomed to fail miserably. In a nutshell this are players wuop pap will attest that they possess basic football skills required at that the level of playing in KPL.

GM bench power is in-effective and weak such that i can not rely on the “ARSENAL MYTH” as a solace to our inefficiency. My friend Arsene Wenger recruited ARTETA , METASACKER and revamp R.V.P along with the likes of WALCOT,CHAMBERLIN,ROSICKY and transformed SONG into a creative midfielder capable of distributing pin point passes that prolific strikers require only proper timing and accuracy to send the ball into back of the net with one touch.

OUR PLAYERS MUST UP THEIR GAME AND IT IS NEEDLESS TO KEEP SUCH A BIG NUMBER IN THE SQUAD WITH 50% of them lacking some average and basic skills like ball control. With such kind of players even if “JESUS” was to coach GM chances of performing better is just NIL.

If we truly love our team and wish them well, thn its a high time we got behind the Team, the EC and the Coaches and urged them on. I am tired of hearing fans wth little or no technical and tactical nous about football blasting our players to no end about their ball controlling and opening-up skills!! This fixation wth criticizing players MUST stop if we want to succeed. The last time I ran the rule over our players, the outcome was very encouraging!! The way our players run the channels just needed a little tweeking whch hopefully wl be corrected in due time. The GK’s ball handling skills were jst us gud as others if not better and so was the ball distribution. The success rate of our pass completion is unmatched by any team in the entire league and so is our ball retention. The coaches are working overtime to improve on our off-the ball movements and transition from defence to attack. This is the only problem area. There is always less pressing by our midfielders when they give the final pass to the strikers. Our strikers are always issolated. The midfielders MUST improve on this by continuously pressing-up the opponents high-up the field.

  • i read from a different script here our problem started when we finished runners up to ulinzi
    1. we had to have an upward structure to accommodate the new bunch of fans coming into the club hooligans included we stack with old branch method as way of tapping fans into the club
2.the way our fans (some) have taken the issue of the club as a scapegoat to commit simple crimes like hanging on moving vehicles, crossing the road at will talking shit in public transport vehicles etc these vice are not giving the club good publicity in away this affects performance of any cohesive unit
    3. players we have now seem to listen more to what is expected of the instead of doing what is expected of them the team will improve surely but not to the level people would like and finally if you support a team it is like your wife or kid or vehicle if he /she does not perform to expectation you dont get angry however emotional you could be please comrade the issue of our image is being ignored i feel it is what we need to address more that even the result on the pitch now please the EC do something about it we have been taken back 46 years back due to what happened last time out all football is shown live on tv world over we are off air some people seem to enjoy this for the gate loot will increase tv gives more money that gate collection world over too bad for kogallo

  • Good people of kogallo, i salute you all?
I had taken what Ogango trailer likes calling a ‘sabbatical’.Actually i was very much around and i have been following events here, only that i have not been commenting. As i have found out,one week in this blog can be a whole load of time.
I have two issues which i think i should opine to,but rather belatedly.
I see we now have a new coach and a mzungu for that matter. My PERSONAL OPINION on this issue,is that we should have let bobby continue with the job,now that he seemed to have started to settle and bring stability to the team(he had already established a relative first eleven).
I think our people are somehow obsessed with this mzungu thing and that any coach is good provided he is a muzungu.I think we need to discard this notion.
Having said that and since the croat, has already put pen to paper.Lets’ pull together in one direction for the good of the team.First of all i’d like to thank JBO for accepting to be ‘demoted’ and for showing will, commitment and good faith to work with the new coach for the good of the team.
On that note,i hereby join fellow bloggers in welcoming our new coach, and pledge my unwavering support to the new coach, since he is the coach! We shall continue with positive criticism for the team, but we shall also continue supporting kogallo kwa hali na mali, for the good of the team.

Secondly,@jackowili,came up with a very noble idea of how we can right the wrongs done by the hooligans. The press confrence, cleanup exercise etc.I support you bwana jackowili, but i still think that we as bloggers, should first register our branch as an affiliate of gor mahia. We only need ksh ksh5,000 and a minimum of 30 members to be registered as a branch.Otherwise all the good ideas we read here from the bloggers will just remain that-ideas.We will just blog and blog and blog till the cows come home.As a recogonised branch we can engage better with the ec,influence things and put the wonderful ideas here into practice.Over to you bloggers.

STOP THIS DOUBLE SPEAK AND LET US TACKLE ISSUE’S WITHOUT ATTACHING TOO MUCH SYCOPHANCY ON PREVAILING REALITIES.

@ Le Pastre how i wish you could refer to your memory back to your previous post no:1 and no:44 of 04 march 2012 and post 05 march 2012 respectively with the then lead story “Gor Mahia go down fighting at Old trafford”.

Surely you posted quite some volume of comments that were emotional and the tone of your language just described you as”the whinners, the grumblers and the complainers” that you are hell bound on depicting some of the bloggers as such.

My comrade you are not a super-special K’Ogalo fan more than others and as such you do not have monopoly over football matters especially with regard to GM, please hold your horses and stop gagging people posting their honest and independent opinion based on facts.

You personally called for “AWONO’S” sacking and offered a list of your preferred coaches to the EC. How comes now you want to be the houlier than thou yet bloggers are posting there concern based on what they witnessed yesterday.

Our comments are meant for the impatient lot like yourself in particular; that success is not a quick fix venture but rather a strategical plan that one needs to undertake some route cause analysis of our deficiencies. Of which one of them is that we have a lot of average players that even if you hire MOURIHNO there is nothing special he will achieve.

I will not just support GM blindly in the name of loyalty when an hurriedly assembled “ESTATE TEAM” like EMBAKASI COMBINED was able to play attractive and well co-ordinated soccer than our mighty K’Ogalo and then congratulate the “White witch-doctor” who sooner than later will be facing the same wrath that you very guys did to AWONO.

We need to be realistic and accept that our recruitment was not handled professionally and as such we lack the consistency from our “BENCH POWER” to rely on in case of un-for-seen injuries to our best players.

    GOD BLESS K’OGALO.

  • Fellow bloggers why can’t we be able to accommodate others views? Some bloggers think they own Gor Mahia more than the others and this is the problem we have in the team. Some bloggers could be part of the hooliganism that have brought the club back from the gains that had been accrued over the years. Am not going to point out names but you can judge from the postings above.

May I convey my deepest sympathy and most sincere condolences to the family of mama Mary Onyango the National Cohesion and Integration Commission – NCIC vice chair following her sad demise on Saturday 31st March.

The passing on of mama Mary is a big loss to us all as a nation. We celebrate her tireless contribution towards peace, cohesion, national reconciliation and appreciation of cultural diversity not to mention respect for others’ property and rights.

As K’ogalo family, we have so much to learn from mama Mary’s work especially now when the evil spirits of soccer violence have visited upon us some experiences we would wish to forget in a hurry.

R.I.P. mama: you have fought a good fight.

@Arrumtiddi I gladly welcome you from your sabbatical. Honestly I was considering petitioning Vincent Ocampo about your “disappearance”. May I invite you to take a look at the link below for some interesting reading?

@ 26 MWAKIO that is exactly what is ailing our club. When indiscipline becomes the order of the day in our playing unit it is because some players rate themselves beyond what they actually are because of fanatical support that lacks substance from this clique of fans ; And who more than often believe in hero-worshiping as opposed to performance analysis based on key indicators that even a layman will easily pick up and correctly analyze on a short notice without any statistical references.

This hype of playing substandard teams in the name of gaining self confidence is completely a misconception of facts. We do not want a repeat of too much hype placed during pre-season tours only to end up as a frustrated and visionless club.

  • I have tuned, measured and concentrated most of my contributions on the tactical and technical aspect of our game. I have wnted people to see what I was able to see before, during and after every match. I wld in the end offer both tactical and technical solutions to the points raised. I never wanted to answer people back directly, but I have to put Ogango Trailer in his rightful place. I did not start supporting GM with the advent of mobile phones and the Mpesa phenomenon, ie the 90s. I owe noone, not even Ogango Trailer an apology for pointing out the obvious flaws and fickleness in the nature of his shallow support for Gor Mahia. The quality of his contributions posted now and before attest to one GLARING FACT: he has exhibited limited knowledge of Kenyan football and especially Gor Mahia’s. For the records pls find time to read why, when and how I was inducted into the Hall of Fame of those who support Gor Mahia. I am a proud GM fan and supporter who has never chickened out even during extremely bad times. You can recall when Sam Aholo was the Chairman of Gor Mahia. These were the times when we could accomodate new signings in our houses until they could find their footing in Nairobi. These were the times when impromptu harambees @ City Stadium were the norm after every evening trainings. These were the times when we could hand-wash the uniforms with the help of our wives and house-helps. All these can be found in one of the many well- informed and greatly inspiring and enlightening and contributions I have posted on this blog. I wanted Awono out, and so did almost everyone who understands the ART of coaching football. When the EC realized the folly of hiring that mzee and keeping him on the job, they saved him by firing him. He was clueless about Gor Mahia and football in general. You cant entrust your team to a constantly tinkering coach. He did not know his 1st-eleven let alone the 1st team!! This is a coach who never fielded our best central defender- David Owino and never worked out any meaningful formation after three months on the job!!. If you knw your football well thn you wld nt hve any problem wth the names of the coaches that I had floated to take over from Awono. For your info. JBO was no 1 in my list and he was duely appointed on merit. For those who would like to pick my mind on anything football, pls feel welcome but be prepared for the backlash if you give an unmeritted argument. Thank you and keep it tactical and technical- keep it football.

When you engage in such altercations you come out badly and it waters down that very impressive “C.V” you gave in answer to Pareyio Ole Lelerue. Let us channel all this energy towards looking for ways of countering the devious activities of a lunatic wall-punching, perimeter fence-climbing mheshimiwa who is now emerging to have bankrolled the crimes that have dragged Gor Mahia’s name to the mud.

After signing a new coach, Gor is daring his competitors to brace for a tough encounter with K’Ogalo.

On Wednesday, we face Mathare United, another side which is also having a share of it’s own challenges. They have been on poor form and thus also changed their tactician. The slum boys would want to overturn the poor results, and because they will face 12 times league winners, they hope to inflict more pain. I have a caution for them. Ukiona simba amenyeshewa, usidhani ni paka.

I am also delighted to read some very positive contributions from bloggers except a few like comrade Nyaruande Calvince who has since refused to apologise for negative stereotypes.

Let us focus on what interest us all- K’Ogalo.

Finally , I wish also to convey my heartfelt condolonce to the family, friends and colleagues of the late Mary Onyango- the national vice chairperson of the national cohesion and intergration commission for her sudden demise through a disease bravely borne. • Fellow bloggers, the information coming out before the friendly was that it was a chance for the coach to look at the whole team. What raises questions is that there were several of our key men missing in action namely: Ivo Mapunda, Moses Odhiambo, Edwin Lavatsa, Kevin Ochieng, Anthony Akumu and Ali Abondo. Are there fresh injuries? If yes, what could be causing all the injuries? Some of the injuries appear to be from the training ground.

But I wld hasten to cautiously add that people MUST not in their desperate bid to appear omnipresent in GM, be allowed to propagate falsehood. I have never ever even by design or not in the remotest sense possible tried to gag anyone/blogger. Instead I have received encuraging congratulatory messages regarding my always insightful postings. GM is so dear to me such that I took leave of absence in the year 1999-2000 to help the then coach Austin Oduor to run the rules over all the potential new signings that year. However, any falsehood cannot suffice and must be confronted wth all the FACTS available. I believe that if all the fans shared their technical and tactical knowledge of football, we will not be having all these side-shows. For example, we are all aware that the quality of a first touch by a player depends on other contributing factors such as the quality of the pitch, the weight of the pass and opposition pressure. So rather than fans lamenting endlessly about poor ball control (1st touch) by our players, we must first interrogate these other FACTORS. If indeed they are found wanting then the coach MUST be called to account. Ball control accounts for 50% of Technical Training by a coach. Any disciplined and technically astute player wl always succeed. Keep it together, keep it football.

We have many of such players in our playimg rank i.e Rama, Kitawi, Daddy, Moses Odhiambo and David Owino. These players informed my rating of Awono as I felt that he was not adding anything new to what the players already had. He was simply unprepared and inadequate for the job. On Operation Jaza Stadi, I want to say here and now that: this was a noble initiative by The Most Sporting Media House in the country – The Radio Africa Group thro’ its radio stations- Kiss 100, Classic Fm, Jambo and East Fm. It was intended to encourage people to return to the stadiums to watch local football. Its therefore pathetic if not embarassing for one individual to hang onto the court-tail of such a noble idea and its success, as their single most important contribution to football growth and development in this country!! I therefore would want to allianate FACTS from FALSEHOOD by stating that: penye ukweli uwongo hujitenga. Keep it Football keep it Gor Mahia.
