Gor Mahia sign Ivorian Gislein Yikpe Gnamian

Various reports suggest that Gor Mahia have signed an Ivorian striker, Gislein Yikpe Gnamian .

The Ivorian who is is as tall and as sturdy as a pillar. He is reported to have scored five goals for SC Gagnoa having featured for half the season in the fourteen-team league. In the 2017-2018 season he scored nine goals for Hafia FC in Guinea’s Ligue 1.

He would be the second Ivorian ever at Kogalo after Ephraim Guikan. Coach Hassan Oktay has made it clear that his primary aim is to find a reliable scorer to replace Jacque Tuyisenge. In this regard, a number of players have attended trials.

Welcome Gislein Yikpe Gnamian. We hope you will fit well in Tuyisenge’s shoes or even do better.

And he has never scored more than ten league goals in a single season!! Another average foreign player brought in by cartels. What additional quality is he bringing? Did Oktay recommend him? Is he also down to earth? Maybe he is cheaper, but always cheap is expensive. Brokers are now smiling all the way to the bank.

My take on this new signing will be guided by the opinions of our three technical gurus i.e. Oswozo Moziek, Musymo and Dinga.

Kipkirui can score alot of goals. Has scored more than 10 goals in the past four seasons consistently. What we needed is a big targetman to keep defenders busy as Kipkirui runs the channels. The last derby and Zamalek games proved how Kip is effective with a busy, hardworking striker. Boniface Omondi (the reason Blackberry is nolonger needed) is also adding goals to his game as witnessed in CECAFA. I think the signing is more tactical. Oktay has said before Kipkirui and Boniface can be big players for Gor so i think the idea is to sign players to help them be more effective as they are players who prefer having space. In this regard, the big man ticks the boxes and we will wait and see
Tactically, i think Oktay will use 433 this season with Kip and Boniface flanking the big man. Packing the midfield to protect the defense with Muguna given freedom to join the attack when possessing and dropping deep without the ball (witnessed in CECAFA and he played the role with Western Stima becoming player of the season and under Ze Maria). Philemon and Batambuze (both good ball players and crossers) providing the width. The new Gor Mahia looks interesting

    • Hi BB, thanks. This is what i’m telling myself. He is new and looking for a vote of confidence on his abilities. Should Gor take the risk? (But i’m picking that he is yet to be signed as from Jasego hapo juu!) Over the years I kind of respect the GorScoutingAgencyLtd. On average this ‘company’ has done well.
His height will obviously be an advantage for the likes of Kipkirui et the other short strikers. If his job is simply to receive high balls I would not go for him. I hope and pray that he comes with some Olunga-Kagere qualities of dribbling, holding and the most important, assisting.
Should he display the let-me-shine technics of the Ovela-Masika then I would not touch him. Let-me-shine works well when your moves are in sync with the whole attacking department AND when you are either Ronaldinho or Messi.
But I guess he is a All et All striker.
Otherwise I welcome him to try out and thank those who have made effort and continue to make effort to get these players. When Olunga, Aucho, Kagere, Tuyisenge came in all sorts of hullabaloos were raised. Gor Mahia has a way of making players WAKE-UP … so I hope he left his mattress back home.

If he is not good enough for a 4 year contract then do not pick him. Remember that he too, has a brain.

I take this opportunity to reverse my opinion on Muguna. He is reading the game well and his assists are fast and timely.
NB: Let-me-shine is NOT a derogatory term. I just don’t have a better adjective.

    • @BB, I dont think i qualify to be a technical guru on football matters. My domain is mainly academia but in Kenyan soccer maybe pundit will do. My take is to adopt a wait and see approach. On the optimistic side, our scouts think he is okay so I will hope they are right. Doomsayer voice would say his conversion rate is not very encouraging and when i tried to Google him the engine returned no result. That says something. At least Guikan was Google compliant but then again flopped with astonishing success. So that may mean nothing. Finally, in the past we had this tradition of signing only foreign players who had been capped by their national teams and I remember Kimanzi of all people saying that is what set our foreign contingent apart from Ingwe’s ‘Congolese ball jugglers’. Maybe we need to stick to that. To those quick to say i am prophesying doom and all is well team ochiek, I have not said the Ivorian is a bad signing. I have given a balance sheet and I love Gor with all my heart and hope that he surprises all of us by being a 15+ goals a season hitman.

  • Brokers paradise !! I will not be suprised if mustafa and sampala are released to pave way as brokers are salivating for this deals. Did CEO aduda not say ‘ we are not looking for foreign players ‘ just a week ago ?

Not sure about west african football pedigre especially in our region…….simba have released all their west africans, azam did the same a few years ago, there are no west africans in uganda league and surely even the south African league is now dominated by fellow southern Africans.

Am not against west African players in general but history always judge the harshly in east africa and more so kogallo.

@Jakoyo not all West Africans have failed in East Africa. Serg Pascal Wawa is one success story.

    @dif madara.
I don’t exactly agree with you on philomen. He is neither a good ball player nor a good crosser. The best way we can describe him is efficient and somewhat reliable.

maybe you are judging him from his games with Kenya where he plays with a very pragmatic coach. Even Aboud Omar looks like a poor leftback under Migne. At Gor, his combination with Kahata and Boniface on the right, was the most creative side of our game the whole season. That was because he rarely loses passes, link well with the midfield and fellow defenders and his crosses (though fewer than Batambuze on the left) but accurate most of the time. On top of that, his reading of the game brings balance to the defense than even Batambuze. Maybe you misunderstood BALL PLAYER for DRIBBLER (which he is not)

@BB..thanks.i will surely give my assessment of the boys once I see them in training at parklands sports club or during a game. Whichever comes first. But I hope this guy is an upgrade of Tuyisenge.

  • The team is complete once we sign a lethal striker (two) then we will have energy and speed from the young and inexperienced and ruthlessness from the experienced striker. Let us hope he is the one. If not keep looking. Good efforts

  • Me, am throwing the cat amongst the pigeons.I hereby withdraw my statement of this team being like ‘sheep to slaughter’.The two signings are what the doctor ordered and I can categorically say this will be the Gor of 2015 but with a CAF muscle. We will have a competitive season like no other but Gor will triumph.

  • About the Ivorian being average or not, I would not say anything because I have no eye witness. But I must applaud the efforts that are being made to get the best within our affordability. It is a market place. When you will your house or home to go and buy something, you may have a picture or an idea of what you need. The market forces may sometimes cause you to get exactly what you wanted but at least get something thing close. These are just but facts about life. In the big soccer, some many times this happens when deals do not go through. it is however not the end of the game. This gives me the confidence to say that in the end it is not the so called broker that will have the final say. It is the coach and his team of assessors. It is also my opinion that any serious Gor Scout will not go out of their way to look for an average player, they may have an opportunity to try at Gor just like any Gor player may try their luck in some team and not fall through. Being a good player some times is relative. What is good here may not be good somewhere else, and that is the name of the game. I am therefore confident with the process that is now going on. The window will soon close and the dust will settle and Gor will begin to roll.

Teams’ pattern must be playing a lot in a players effectiveness. After having watched Ssekisambu turn out for Uganda Vipers, I could not believe it was the same player I was seeing at K’ogalo.
