Gor Mahia squad for Sudan trip

Last year Gor Mahia beat Al Hilal in Omdurman

Gor Mahia have named a 22 player squad that will leave on Friday and travel to Sudan to play Al Hilal

The squad includes most the new signings and apparently also includes striker Timothy Otieno who was on loan to Posta Rangers in 2016.

Teddy Osok, a defensive midfielder who was previously in the Gor Mahia U19 team is in the squad. He had been dropped from the U19 team but earned his way back after a stellar display at the KPL U20 tournament in which he gave Kogalo players a torrid time.

Rwanda international Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza, appears set to make his debut. Missing from this list is Jockins Atudo, the KPL defender of the year who had earlier been announced a signing. He is no longer in the official list of signings.

Playing Unit: 1. Boniface Oluoch, 2. Shaban Odhoji, 3. Wellington Ochieng, 4. Karim Nizigiyimana, 5. Harun Shakava, 6. Musa Mohammed, 7. Collins Okoth, 8. Amos Nondi, 9. Ernest Wendo, 10. Francis Kahata, 11. George Odhiambo, 12. Jacques Tuyisenge, 13. Meddie Kagere, 14. Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza, 15. Teddy Osok, 16. Kenneth Muguna, 17. Joash Onyango, 18. Timothy Otieno, 19. Philemon Otieno, 20. Mike Simiyu, 21. John Ndirangu, 22. Oliver Maloba.

Technical Bench: 23. Coach – Marcelo Fereira, 24. Assistant Coach – Marco Aurellio, 25. Team Manager – Jolawi Obondo, 26. Fitness Trainer – Sandro Fantino, 27. Team Physician – Fredrick Otieno, 28. Team Doctor – Patrick Opiyo.

The delegation will be led by EC members John Pesa and Judith Nyangi.

Other Transfer news

Gor Mahia are in talks with fast rising Mathare United midfielder Eric Johana

“We are due to meet Johanna on Thursday at 10am and from there we shall let you know the way forward. It is all over the media that we have signed Johanna but we are yet to reach a deal,” Jolawi Obondo confirmed to Citizen Digital.

The other teams who have been chasing Johana are arch rivals AFC Leopards and Tusker. Johana has been voted KPL midfielder of the year in 2015. He has made 11 appearances for the national team, acquitting himself well and most notably scoring the winning goal against Congo-Brazzaville.

The new look Gor Mahia looks very impressive on paper. The way the signings have been done reminds me of “The Stone Soup” story in Primary English class 5. We began with stones (the Atudos and Kamuras). We are still going after the Maqbuls and Johannas while the two are long out of the cooking pot. This time round Brewkenge must know people.

@BB, I really wished for Kamura and expressed that wish soon after the close of last season. I have repeated that wish over and over but not all wishes come true. I hear he is to be unveiled by Ogwang tomorrow. I hope he does not play as well for them as he has been doing!!!

Kamura’s unveiling by Ogwang’ is disgusting.,. but then who can trust Ogwang’ with good players these days? Where is Imbalambala? How good is Tololwa after moving from the slums? Mang’oli? Your wish is granted…. just watch this space.

@BB…I agree with you, that squad actually looks good.the sooner they gel the better.
Am also happy about the acquisition of joash onyango the former western stima captain…he is a seasoned and battle hardened defender who will undoubtedly give us greater options at the back!!

As usual the issue we are going to have is ‘gelling’ of the team. Will we have to wait until the second leg begins? That is the question. Again, Jasego come back, if the moderation thing continues, change your email address. I sincerely think Admin has no issues with you….that is the technical advice i got.

  • I like the way we have done our transfer business this time , that is the kind of players signed and the kind of contracts sealed.
    One player though,
I wish to comment on is Timothy Otieno , this is a player with a lot of potential with the requisite athletism needed for football , just like Ronaldo and that’s where the comparison ends because apart from Timothy’s speed , his decision making is very very poor , doesn’t know when to pass , when to run into space , when to hold the ball , rather he always seems to be in a hurry without the end result in mind , this
is a player in whom a good coach can extract from that latent potential , and lastly he should learn how to run wiith the ball at his feet while looking up , that way he is able to see his teamates , football is more mental than phisical .

  • Musymo you win some you lose some, such is the workings of the universe osiepa.I tried getting kamura but somehow others didn’t really appreciate his prowess,I singled out his poise and composure on the ball plus dead ball specialty but battle hardness as pointed out by oswozo was preferred by other EC members so i said okay as long as they sign Johanna which should happen on Thursday I will still have gotten majority targets in the list I promised initially. You esp I promised softie ndirangu and delivered him,kaw kwee

Ja’Asego, did Ze Maria really leave an actual list of names of the players he wanted for the EC to execute? Or he only left a list of players to be dropped!

  • Timothy is to provide a direct alternative for tuyisenge since the coach has never been quite an Enoch Agwanda admirer.Lets hope he can replicate his Posta Rangers form at GM though I believe he suffers from Big Stage Fright hence his inability to excel much at GM while flourishing in smaller teams

Unfortunately there is no room for all the good players, Kamura, inclusive. It’s good for the game for the other team including ingwe to be strong. All in all we have a good team.

@Dan I agree with your sentiments but only beg to differ when it comes to your comment on Ingwe. I NEVER want Ingwe to be strong and every time they play I always pray they lose or draw. Whenever they win its only me who knows how bad I feel. As for Kamura, I am more saddened by his joining Ingwe than his not coming to Gor i.e. I would live if he did not join Gor but I have trouble processing his move to Ogwang.

@musymo , so long as we are stronger and better than them ingwe there is no problem

@dan original, very true we can’t sign everyone and looking at the central defence at gor it’s hard to displace shakava and musa the best center halves in kpl

Yes,squad looks good. Apart from the recruiting 2 GKs both from a relegated team. Are both of them deserving/the best available. Now the other “elephant in the room/the crucial ingredient” is Ze Maria aka The Genius i.e the TB.He must deliver titles (note titles not a title). No excuses of geling etc remember we snubbed Mapinduzi.I don’t see Ogweno on the list and would not mind if he’s been dropped to give Ze Maria A FREE REIGN.

  • Where is Enock Jowi Agwanda? Ogweno and Ottomax are nowhere ama they have been dropped from the team? Otherwise we wish them well. I hope Fontino has moderated his drunkenness.

@A person, Nyangi explained that Agwanda had not renewed his contract but was expected to do the same on this past Monday. She further clarified that the visas for the travelling contigent had already been processed and thus he was time barred. My only query was why him or the club did not feel the hurry/need to renew when Bonny and Nizigiyimana were renewing. Where is Wafula, he is not in the travelling squad, was not among the dropped players and no explanations about his omission either?

    • ODUOR12

Oh yes, even Otommax is not there.Give Ze Maria total control but also have a code of conduct for all TB, players etc.Racism, insurbodination, indiscipline (read Boni, Gatusso & Trainer Onyango) must not be tolerated. This calls for STRUCTURES. TITLES IS WHAT WE WANT.

      • I agree with you Oduor 12 . Am also wondering why they need a Doctor and a physician in the same squad. Otherwise it is also a form of tourism form them. Wacha wajivinjari.

Guys, maybe Wafula was dropped because of his nationality issues. In UG, Tz and Rwanda an Est African needs no passport to enter. you can have temporary docs. In Sudan t’s another matter all together.

  • @musymo , I hate Afc , but I love the way I hate them that were they not to be there I would really miss them bcoz the fun of football is the presence of at least one enemy…did u see them cheering Tusker against their own team , the feeling is mutual but I also accept that a strong Afc , Tusker , Bandari is beneficial to Gor Mahia coz it raises the standards of kenyan football competitiveness and this is very helpful when we play at the international level …the days when we were winning the Mandela cup , we had a very strong domestic league

Bwana Admin, please allow me a little latitude to revisit the Marcelo-Georgia article because I want Muyoti and Marcelo to get this message again and again:

    Barefoot Bandit says:
    January 10, 2017 at 2:32 pm
Poor boy. Why does he allow this Muyoti man to lead him by his nose? Where is his family to advise him? Africa is full of talent from West, Central and South. In the East we can talk of Uganda. Why are all these talents avoiding that country. Muyoti the blood of Marcelo shall be in your hands should anything happen to him. I am almost certain that come around this time in 2018, this boy will be very frustrated.

@Agwanda David you have spoken very clearly. Kama atakataa kukusikia basi mwacheni akule jeuri yake. What happened to Blackberry who was even more exciting than Marcelo? Georgia si ya mama yetu.

Looking at the recruitment, I think that it is good, They are young people who within my perspective, are not just thinking Kogalo here and now. They are looking into their future development. For them Kogalo is a place of growth. This brings a lot of competition among the team. I also think that in terms of trophies, we may not reap in a few or all of them. Yes it pays to have a goal because you are working with something. The danger is that if becomes an obsession, the fall can be thunderous especially if it is not achieved. Recalling back to many calls that have been made, Kogalo has outgrown the local league and this has not died out. This is the force behind the recruitment and contract period signings going on now. Agility, speed, physic, work rate and of course discipline will be the bar. This may not take in everyone. In their second year 2018 the team will be moto wa kuotea mbali not just in the country but regionally. For us to be felt seismographicaly, we must have the right tools. Kogalo hoyee…………

  • Kogalo almost always bags trophies when a massive clear out of “spam players” are filtered and new ones brought in.That has been the situation in the 3 peat success. Those who overstay develop ambitions for going pro and start deliberate lethargy in work rate as aucho and abondo did last season or disciplinary & head strong traits creep in, Gattuso is a perfect case. All in all when most leave and others join the team is reinvigorated by those aspiring for fame and trophies hence success.I await moderation as in the norm nowadays
