Gor Mahia transfer news January-11-2017

Gor Mahia are keenly pursuing central defender Bernard Ochieng who is currently tied to second tier side Vihiga United.  A club official from Vihiga United, Peter Atsiaya says that Gor Mahia have tabled an offer and the club is willing to consider it. However the player is hesitant to make the move as he may warm the bench like other signings have done at Kogalo.

“Gor Mahia are very keen on signing our defender Bernard Ochieng’. They have even tabled their offer but the deal might not easily go through because there are a number of things which have to be considered as well. Playing time is also very important for the players’ career,” said Atsiaya to goal.com

Ochieng has been one of the key cogs in the Vihiga United setup. He impressed not just Gor Mahia scouts, but also national team coach Stan Okumbi. As a result, Ochieng was called up to the national team in September for the friendly against Congo. Quite an achievement for a player in the second tier.

And Vihiga United could very well be promoted to the KPL this year if Nick Mwendwa has his way. The FKF chairman has demoted three teams from KPL for not complying with CAF licensing rules and is adamant that the KPL will have 18 teams in 2017. This means Vihiga could be promoted if Mwendwa has his way.

Another player Gor Mahia are pursuing is Mohamed Karim Macqbul. The lanky left back was impressive while playing in the Super 8 tournament for Jericho All Stars. According to Judith Nyangi, Gor Mahia are close to signing the player. Since Jericho All Stars are not affiliated with FKF, another team has come forward to demand development fees from Gor Mahia.

‘’It has come to our notice that Gor Mahia are keen on signing Mohammed Karim Makbul. Gunners Youth FC wish to state categorically that Makbul is duly signed with us and he has featured in the FKF SCBL. We have never released him either.” said Gunners Youth FC team manager Hussein Omar Marie according to futaa.com

Meanwhile Timothy Otieno, who is returning from a loan spell with Posta Rangers, is happy to be back at Gor Mahia and determined to fight for a place in the starting line-up, something he could not do under Frank Nuttall in 2015.

“It feels good to be back at Gor because this is a great club. I am happy with the decision to go out to Rangers last season because I have learnt a lot and improved in so many aspects. Though I suffered a long term injury at the beginning of the season, I managed to work hard to get into top form,” Otieno told Capital FM.

So far Coach Ze Maria is impressed with Otieno.

“He is a very good player and one who we need in this team. I told him from June that I wanted him back and I am happy he has decided to return. I am sure he will make a good addition and in training so far, he has shown he is hungry to play,” the tactician offered.

Otieno shrugged off requests from new Posta Rangers coach Sammy Omollo “Pamzo” to stay with Rangers.

I looked up the player and got quite positive reviews. He is a good defender and would be a good addition to the squad. As he says, playing time may be limited or impossible to have as the Shakava-Musa partnership is so far impregnable and the hard tackling Joash is I suppose the next in the chain of command. We have seen players of such promise be signed by Gor, warm the bench or never make it to the squad at all then be released. Examples like David Magoma, Martin Wesonga, the unfortunate Calabar Junior abound and I am afraid even Teddy Osok may suffer the same fate. So while it is always my joy when Gor gets young, promising high quality players, I sometimes feel for these youngsters who genuinely love Gor and want the platform that it offers them but find it hard to break into the first eleven and are finally offloaded when their stock has nosedived. Of course we have those who have made it, Shakava, Marcelo, Wendo, Nondi so all is not lost, let them come and work their socks off and leave thae rest to Ze Maria and God!!

I am still uncomfortable with our central defense and I believe that a determined and disciplined new signing can easily send the current occupants, especially Musa, to the bench. I therefore encourage Bernard and Joash to go for and come up with an even more formidable partnership of central towers.

@BB, Musa used to be shaky and error prone and still has his moments of madness but for the last two seasons has become quite formidable. But as you say if Joash and Bernard can come and displace, put a better show the better. Talking of defence I also read that we are talking to Bandari’s Shariff Mohammed. J’asego, how true? and while you are at it, it is not yet too late to look up Andrew Juma from Mathare that is if you still have space since we can’t sign all the good ones. Those who watched his exploits for Mathare towards the tail end of last season would attest….@ J’ Asego iwacho how?

Is it the head coach who really identifies players for recruitment? A head coach/TB also determines or knows his squad quality and size.Timothy Otieno has come back because Ze Maria has directly vouched for him. What about the rest e.g Bernard Ochieng? We still have some time for trials. It seems Ze Maria identified the players to be released but EC is the one deciding on the quality and quantity of players recruited probably as Ze Maria was on holiday, though he was here most of 2016. I don’t think this is the best situation in a club of GM calibre since most in EC do not have the skills of Ze Maria/TB in knowing who best fits in his system. Also if things go wrong then where does the buck stop.

    Reply
    • Oduor12 we have provided perfect 4-3-3 system players for the coach complete with substitutes and replacements that can fit into preferred variations of 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3-1 and even highly technical 4-1-4-1…EC now requires all trophies on offer this season as no other coach has been empowered and spoilt for choice like Ze Maria. LOOK NO further than pitiful Ingwe recruitment and you will realize GM’S immense quality player resource bro

Just thinking. Now that we are bound to have a 15-team KPL won’t it mean less matches for the team now with CECAFA out as well as CAF matches. Fewer matches means less injuries and fatigue and the result is that you can play with fewer players.
So as we recruit we must have that in mind. It should not be a case of ‘we have the money and a particular good player is available’.
In case we are recruiting for a stable future then no problem. We should also explore the issue of recruiting good players and then loaning them to the same team for the sake of playtime

The league will be 18 teams. Nick Mwendwa will insist on it. And it is likely that the decision to relegate Muhoroni, Thika and Sofapaka willl be reveresed. You cannot demote community teams. If you want to demote teams then demote Tusker. They have existed for 40 years and still have no fan base.

@ Dan original and oduor 12, you are the only people with a thinking hat…..a bloated squad of 30 players with 14 midfielders, reduced matches, higher wage bill, where do you take all this players in 6 months ? …..Bernard ochieng, maqbul, Johanna etc etc please don’t join kogallo.

we need answers from the EC unless FKF has directed that 2017 league be a 15 a side football I see a lot of passengers at the club creating discontent , indiscipline and sabotage.

I think the problem is everyone, moreso EC,wants to bring in a player to be CONTRACTED.This ok as “there maybe talent out there missed by the coaches” but all such proposed players should be subjected to trials first by the head coach/TB to confirm they fit into the system.Ze Maria/TB must also up his game & give EC specific players (with options) who in his opinion are a”MUST HAVE”.Only these players should be given priority/direct contracts if they agree to come on board. We also have the U20s,for positions like GK3 & for back up.We need about 7/8 Nondis/Osoks in all departments who train with the 18/17 senior players but go back to the u20 for tournaments i.e squad players.Since they are contracted,GM’s u20 will attract the best quality which is good for the club.Omusinga surely you should have policies and structures, this is not your first term. How big will the 2017 senior team be?Na bado we want Johana, Ochieng etc.As Jakoyo says what about the salary budget/delays /structures,mara foreigners ovepaid?

      • Yawa this GK bit is really amusing me. Strategic planning is always wanting in this club. At some point, I feel that they suffer from the flight of ideas syndrome. That is why sometimes they come up with too many proposed projects and end up achieving none. When they wake up and the ideas of developments come flushing through their heads, then you hear of: Gor bread, gor water, gor buses, gor sacco, mara gor fish, gor matumbo etc. Now the flight of ideas has shifted to player recruitment.

  • Fellow bloggers in Africa No coach is left the Supreme task of identifying and signing player exclusively.Where would Ze Maria get the chance to observe the likes of Mugiraneza and Maqbul?EC Affiliated Technocrats with sound footballing knowledge and mastery of Philosophies led by myself already know what’s required and therefore bring the best for coach “who is very happy” work with the players. @ Jakoyo better be spoilt for player choice than be limited on the same.Squad rotation can cure and improve team quality

  • The most important thing now is for the coach to do what he was brought for. He has an array of players at his choice to use as he plse. Take note for mamelondi to win the champions cup they had a squad of 35 plus. Gor squad is roughly 10 below that with 50+ games to fight for. Fa, top 8 and the league .I support a larger squad in basis of the future to be.

@ Dan, from what i am reading elsewhere, it seems we are far from done with the recruitment. Rachier says Ze Maria has requested for a squad of 28 and the EC is thinking of adding two more to make it 30. So as much as your wish for a lean efficient squad makes sense in the prevailing circumstances, expect to be disappointed!!!

Former Gor Mahia midfielder Khalid Aucho has been released by his South African club Baroka FC.

Aucho who was a midfield cog for the former Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia signed for Baroka in August last year but has now been released with three more; Tshepo Skhwama Sama Tariyana Matete, Victor Letsoalo and Geofrey Massa, this is as reported by Soccer Laduma.

    Released

The players’ dismissal was confirmed by the club’s media officer, Jimmy Ngobeni.

-We have also released midfielder, Khalid Aucho as well as two strikers, Victor Letsoalo and Geofrey Massa. They’re busy assessing whether more players will be signed or released, he told Soccer Laduma.

Aucho is currently preparing for the 2017 AFCON finals set to be held in Gabon with his national team Uganda Cranes.

this time we have recruited well but the problem is that only 60percent of the squad will be utilised and the striking department hasn’t been boosted yet they were the reason together with hooliganism that we came out empty handed, EC, TB and ZE maria should be wise this time round, this kind of squad will require massive rotation or change of formaations so as to accomodate players for instance 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 to accomodate three center halves and midfield rotations depending on opponents

@Marto, Hahahahahaha….Happy New Year. Under which rock have you been hiding? Welcome back. I only posted that to provoke a discussion but if it were possible which is not I would have wished for him to come back.As much as we have recruited well in the midfield nearly all of them are attacking midfielders i.e Muguna, Maloba, Softie. That leaves only Gatusso as the other PROVEN defensive midfielder aside from Migi. Wendo was overwhelmed last season, Philemon is okay but not the warrior Migi will need beside him in our preferred 4-2-3-1 formation. And all of us know how unreliable Gatusso is. Plus I never want him playin for any of our direct rivals. We are fine as we are but i suspect I am a hyena and want more as Dan insinuates up there!!!!

@Dan, that is the tragedy we sometimes face. There are these players who thrive outside Gor but once snapped up by the Green Army only flatter to deceive. Once sent on loan or sold, they resurrect. I hope Timothy for whom Agwanda has been sacrificed will provide a better show this time. He joined Gor with a bang, dazzled then for whatever season became very average. I pray that loan stint has improved his confidence because a sharp Timothy can be quite a handful.
