Gor Mahia still on track for a record season

Despite the fact that their relentless march towards the 2015 KPL title was slowed down by Ulinzi, Gor Mahia are still on track for a phenomenal season that could see them break several KPL records.

Firstly the team is still unbeaten. No team has finished unbeaten since the KPL was inaugurated a decade or so ago.

Since the 16 team league was instituted in 2007, the highest number of points garnered by a team is 63 points by Mathare United. Gor Mahia have already equalled that record and will certainly break it. Should they win all their remaining matches, they could end up with a whopping 78 points. That would break the KPL record which is 75 points by Sony Sugar in 2006 when the league had 18 teams.

By scoring 53 goals and conceding only twelve, Gor Mahia have already broken the record for number of goals in the KPL era and are on course to set a new record  for goal difference.

By winning the league for a 15th time, Gor Mahia will have set a new record and will be two titles ahead of closest challenger AFC Leopards who have 13. And Gor Mahia will be the first team in the KPL unified era to win the title 3 times in a row. Ulinzi did win the league from 2003 to 2005 but the league was not unfied in all those years. In 2003-2004, two rival leagues existed thus denying Ulinzi an outright win. In 2005, Mumias Sugar had the most points but the league was decided on a playoff basis and Ulinzi won beating Tusker in the final on penalties.

It will be the second time Gor Mahia have won the title 3 times in a row. They also won 3 titles under Len Julians from 1983 to 1985.

It is commendable to see Gor Mahia players keep their focus despite having such a huge lead and with all the distractions that abound. We are indeed witnessing a memorable and historic season. A season that will be remembered for years to come.

All Gor Mahia needs is one point against Sony Sugar on Wednesday to wrap up the title

“We are a focused side and I’m happy the boys did not disappoint. We hope to tame Sony on Wednesday (tomorrow) and wrap up the league,” coach Nuttall said to the Nation

    Admin – regarding: ” …And Gor Mahia will be the first team in the KPL era to win the title 3 times in a row” how about Ulinzi from 2003-2005 – or KPL came after that? Kindly confirm.

    Thanks!

    @ADMIN; If K’Ogalo maintains the good run and fights for all trophy in 2015 it will be remarkable achievement and the only way Gor Mahia can set records is by winning the treble trophies that will include KPL-2015 championship ,GoTv- SHIELD 2015 & KPLTOP 8 2015 ;

    This will ultimately provide the platform for individual within K’Ogalo and without any favor or biased to be honored on the following AWARD categories:

    1. Fank Nuttal —– KPL coach of the year.
    2. Bonnie———— KPL goalkeeper of the year.

      Just celebrate a memorable year. You may not witness such a good team in a very long time. Meanwhile I hope the team is planning for next year because we know there will be many departures.
