Gor Mahia take on Western Stima

The match against Western Stima this Sunday at Nyayo stadium presents Gor Mahia with a chance to avenge the defeat they suffered to Western Stima during the first leg. The first leg match was played at Mumias complex and Western Stima shocked Gor Mahia 2-1. On that occasion, David Owino had given Kogalo an early goal before Western Stima scored twice.

Coach Bobby Williamson, who made a winning debut, beating Chemelil Sugar 2-0 on Wednesday, played down the revenge angle. “We don’t talk about revenge at all. We’ll take game by game and what we want is results. It’s still along way to go, but the good thing is we know how to handle the pressure at the top,’’ he told the Standard.

Gor Mahia will be buoyed by the fact that they will be playing at home in front of their home fans. They will also be playing with more confidence having overcome a tough Chemelil side on Wednesday.  Fans will be hoping that they can pick up from where they left off on Wednesday.

Defence

The one area Gor Mahia has been able to depend on throughout the year has been the goalkeeping of Jerim Onyango and the defence. Even in matches where Gor Mahia has been outplayed, the defence has come through and helped them win. Gor Mahia have not conceded a goal in the last four games. Jerim has been in the form of his life this season while David Owino, Donald Mosoti, Musa Mohamed, Israel Emuge and Chris Wekesa have been solid.

Keeper Jerim Onyango has been full of praise for the defence. The team of defenders have been terrific so far this season. It is one thing to win a match and another to keep the opponents away from our goal, and that they have done very well this season, They’ve been working hard – not only in defending very well but also creating or scoring goals for us at the other end, like Owino and Mosoti who have scored three goals for us.

And on the rare occassions where a striker has beaten a defender, Jerim has been there to make a save.

They will need to be on top of their game in order to contain Western Stima dangerman Wesley Kemboi.

At seven goals, Gor Mahia has conceded the fewest goals in the league along with Ulinzi.

I am impressed by the coach’s remark that “we know how to handle pressure at the top”. It is also good to know that our Tech. Bench. is approaching every match with caution.

Guys all teams have at least 14 games to go and only 8 points separate the leaders from the tenth team in the log. 8 points is nothing with 14 matches to go. Even the 10th team still has a very good chance of clinching the championship. How much will it cost us as fans to adapt a cautious one-match-at-a-time approach?

Let us recall Sir Bobby’s wise remark last season, that “WE ONLY WANT TO WIN THE NEXT MATCH”. I repeat; How much will it cost us fans to adapt a cautious one-match-at-a-time approach?

I wish to appeal make an observation on Chris Wekesa and Ed Lavatsa. For three matches now since the Bandari game at City stadium, Wekesa has displayed some uncharacteristic clumsy and risky football. So risky that it costs us so many fouls and can even see us be reduced to a man less. Lavatsa is not aggressive and fears to take on defenders. Every opposing player or team tactician now knows that each time Lavatsa receives a pass, he will ALWAYS return it backwards to the midfield or to the defenders and will be too afraid to penetrate.

Great people of K’Ogalo, let us strive to WIN THE NEXT MATCH. Tuepukane na hizi oyuma za ‘gini wasekao’ na ‘league to marwa’. Jakoyo upo?

The only way to b sure of the league is to win all our matches and this is something possibleM let’s hope our 2nd leg run will be as in the last years.

I warned you the other day that your abuses towards the NON LUOS in your team is the greatest undoing of you luos and now you can see WEKESA & IRAVATSA’s game is on a downward trend. So note that OGWANG’ & GINI WASEKAO have the negatives of it and you will harvest it in plenty yourselves…..very soon!

Guys,Sir Bobby Williamson is a professional coach and will not hesitate to stop playing wekesa & Lavatsa if he realizes that they r sabotaging his efforts.Since Lavatsa joined Gor, he has always played his heart & thats why The national team Coach Adel Amrouche seleted him & left Were who according to other pple is in top form. If he is not good he cannot be called to do national duty.Football is his career & he cannot afford to play bad willingly.Lavatsa is a top Gor Mahia striker and is happy in Gor.

  • I appeal to all our fans to humble themselves. The log is very tight and tough. This useless chest thumbing by fans and supporters must be stopped. We only need to continue with prayers as God will always answer our prayers if we only humble ourselves. Let us pick the writing on the towel that Mungai Kiongera displayed. This is the true spirit which must be injected in our fans system. Without returning all the glories and honors to God, there is nothing that we can succeed.

Let us learn to humble ourselves but not these noises of we have won. What have we won? There are still many games remaining. Guys humble yourselves.,

  • @barefoot bandit, I totally disagree with you on your comments on Lavasta and Wekesa. These are misplaced postings which have got no place in Gor Mahia.

@disi, keep your tribal sentiments to yourself. Gor Mahia does not need you nor your advise. You are the most tribalist fan I have ever met and shame on you. I think Gor Mahia is the most liberalized football club with players drawn from all over the country presented alongside foreign players. You are the most ignorant fan in the world of football and I wish you keep your posting to Effusi site or any other site that looks like you. I wish you were not born with such mentality.

Disi look at effusi, why have they printed Peter instead of Opiyo? What does this imply?

@Benson Disi, I have told you before that your perception of that word is so wrong. Ogwang is the only Luo word that expresses respect, admiration and affection for the wild cat such as a leopard. Ogwang’ is just the appropriate Luo word for a wild cat. It cannot be used on an individual. You are equally wrong to allege that the non-Luo players in Gor Mahia are insulted by fans on the basis of their ethnicity. For your information, the Gor Mahia community transcended ethnicity many decades back. That is the reason we were able to accommodate greats like Jaffer Mwidau, Bill and Enock Obwaka, Abbas Magongo, George Sunguti, Dr. Dan Shikanda, Masanta Osoro, Ignatius Khaduli, Bonventure Maruti, Abbey Nasur, etc, etc.

In a nutshell, we the Gor Mahia community regard ethnicity-based stigma and discrimination as very myopic and recalcitrant. Benson Disi, it is unfortunate that ethnicity is your specialty. When will you change, because you and ethnic-based discrimination and insults are kama chanda na pete? I sympathize with you because if the likes of you are what this country relies on to move forward then any progress for Kenya as one nation is a mere pipe dream.

Get it in your head that we refer to AFC Leopards as ogwang’ out of affection, respect and appreciate because it is true: a leopard is a cat and a wild one at that. Choke!!.

I don’t think you know the role Lavasta has been playing. This is a great player that can go to Europe. In the last game, the lad played very well helping defenders and attacking very well. If this is a weakness, then I do not know what you are looking for in Edwin.

On Wekesa, he has played well and tell us the fouls he has committed that have cost us the goals from any opponent. The lad is a real offensive defender. The only problem with Wekesa is his weight that can’t make him fall back quickly.

Football is a body contact game and fouls must be committed to stop opponents from advancing to our goal zone. Hard tackling are necessary for the beauty of the game.

@Mwakio I concur with you. We need prayers now like never before. God has his own way of punishing us and we should not give HIM a reason for that by chest-thumping. For our info we can only influence the games we are playing and have no way to stop the other teams from winning when they are not playing us. Moreover points are not only counted when GM is playing but when the other teams are playing too. We might put ourselves under pressure by all this slogans. I know the players and EC are way beyond this and will not be affected by the table position.

VOTE AMBROSE RACHIER WITH WHOMEVER HE THINKS WILL BRING STABILITY IN GOR MAHIA AS HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN SINCE HE TOOK OVER THE LEADERSHIP OF GORMAHIA FC.

  • @oduor12, it is very premature to start campaigning for the so called legends. Can you tell us what they stand for regarding the future posterity of the club? Why have you become their mouthpiece? Why can’t they tell us their interests? What are their manifestos?

With me I will support Rachier hundred times for what he has done for the club. Gor Mahia is the most difficult club to manage. However I suggest we give Rachier good and able officials who can work together with him. I have said in this site before that we have to vote out Faiz, Kilo, Bwana, Nyandega, Oj, Ngala, etc that have continued to fleece the club left right centre. There is no way we have officials who are jobless and the final results is misappropriation of financial resources at the gate.

  • @ 14 Michael & 15 Mwakio, apart from A.R there’re 13 other officials in the “executive community”.The question is. What have these other guys done for GMFC in the past or at present. Administratively GM was sorted out by LOGARUSIC.My friend Mwakio as per your blogs there’re no structures in GM. Players paid in cash, failure(deliberate) in merchandizing, lack of transparency in finances, fake GM stewards etc etc. The EC is quiet on elections coz they want to ride on the euphoria of winning the league.

  • contd… Y KEEP THE ELECTION DATE A SECRET KANIU SYTLE. I solidly believe that it is the FANS, who have sustained GMFC throughout the years. We’ve had beta & worse chairs than A.R.Do u believe AR has been using his resources all these years,y does he seem 2 fear proper structures. But 4 continuity I think it wise 4 A.R 2 continue BUT WITH WHO SALLY BOLO,ATARO, FAIZ ETC OR WITH QUALIFIEDTEAM LEGENDS OBWAKA,LULE,SIANGA,MAKAMU ETC UPTO A MAX OF 6 OFFICIALS. THATS MY 2 CENTS

  • @ODUOR12, you are right comrade on the structures. We must have structures discussed during the AGM. This armorphous structure will be detrimental to club’s future posterity. We only need 5 office beares but not the bloated office as we currently have.

The club’s constitution must be changed and the new incoming office should turn the club into a professional outfit. If they fail to deliver this within a given period of time like 6-9 month, they should be shown the door.

If you put aside your emotional attachment you’ll actually see that in my blogs i’ve nothing personal against AR BUT i also know that he’s not the alpha & omega of K’galo.May I remind you that the TURNING POINT in the recent history of GM was when FANS forced ZICO out despite recultance and delays from AR. Please review the archives. THESE LEGENDS WON NOT ONLY THE LEAGUE BUT CECAFA & CAF TITLES AND IN MATTERS FOOTBALL

ADMIN TASKS E.G CEO,FINANCE,MARKETING CAN BE DELEGATED 2 QUALIFIED EMPLOYEES/SECRETARIAT GIVE THE QUALIFIED LEGENDS A CHANCE WITHOUT OR AR BUT I’D RATHER HAVE AR 4 THE SAKE OF CONTINUITY
