Gor Mahia will play their first home game of the 2017 Kenya Premier League this weekend. The match will take place on Saturday at Moi stadium Kisumu where Gor Mahia will likely play a significant portion of their home matches this season. This is due to the unavailability of Kasarani, Nyayo and City stadium, all of which are closed for renovation.

The newly promoted Kericho based side are a relative newbies having been formed in 2009. Since then they have risen meteorically to the top tier league. In 2015, they finished 3rd in the National Super League and missed promotion to KPL by only one point. In 2016, they finished 3rd again. Luckily for them, the KPL was expanded, thus taking in four teams from the National Super League.

They are the first team from Kericho to play in the Kenya Premier League. The last time a team from Kericho was in the top tier was in 2001 with Brooke Bond FC who were relegated that year after 3 seasons in the top league. Zoo started their league campaign last weekend losing to 0-1 to Posta Rangers.

Gor Mahia for their part will look to continue their winning form. After beating Tusker and Kariobangi Sharks, they will be looking to extend their winning streak to three. Coach Ze Maria is confident that he has solutions for every possible situation.

“With the quality of players I have, we can deploy any system like the 3-5-2 formation we used against Sharks or the 4-3-2-1 system. I have many solutions for my team this season. It is definitely going to be difficult to select the players. But I am happy because every coach wants to be in such a situation as players will give more than 100 per cent,” said Ze Maria to the Standard.

  • @Admin kindly confirm the kickoff time. I have read elsewhere that the match has been taken off the live roster and will be played from 3p.m. It had been pushed forward to 2pm to accomodate for live broadcasting but instead on Saturday the live transmission will be the match between Posta Rangers and Bandari in Thika. So our game will be at 3pm and not live.

Good start to the season and good luck against Zoo Kericho though you are wrong about Zoo being the first team from Kericho to play in the KPL. Actually the first team from Kericho to play in the Kenya Premier League was Brooke Bond FC. The sponsors pulled out and they left the league mid season.

  • Futaa.com says that Zoo Kericho has never lost a soccer match in Kisumu stadium. Some old school statistics will have to be shattered tomorrow.
Ze Maria should just make 5 changes to his starting 11 so as to test the rest who warmed the bench against Mwendwa Sharks.
And guys, will the game be live on tv or not?
