Infighting led to the departure of technical staff

According to various reports, club officials decided to sweep the room clean showing the door to the entire technical staff due to constant infighting and agendas within the technical bench.  Aside from Awono, team manager Morris former players Ouma Ole Tunda, Julius Owino and Zablon Otieno “pro”, as well as team manager Jolawi Obondo  were all let go. There have been various reports of fighting between Jolawi and Awono.
A source told the Standard that “There was a lot of negative energy in the team. The bench was bloated with most of them serving interests of certain individuals. The performance of the team is symptomatic of the rot in the bench that is why we have swept it clean,” the highly placed said.
“Take the case of the Mozambique trip. Coming up with the traveling list was a hell of a job. It created divisions and there has been bad blood running through the bench ever since,” he said while justifying the sackings.
Even before coach Zico left, there were rumours of infighting. Apparently Zico did not have a free hand in team selection. Awono simply inherited a team with problems. The performance of the playing unit has appeared listless at times with Awono seemingly unable to inspire the playing unit to play hard. The same scenario played itself out when Zico was in charge towards the end of last year.
Now that there has been a clean sweep, fans hope that the players can start afresh and play inspired football. The hiring of Ogolla is probably to instill fighting spirit, fire and passion in the players. Fans also hope that the club will in the future deal with disquiet proactively before it poisons the team and costs the team important games. And none have been more important than the fiasco in Maputo.
In the meantime, Vice Chairman Faiz Magak has announced that the club is in talks with Deam Mawiinde who was the assistant coach of the Zambia team that recently won the Africa Nations cup.

Gor Mahia did not need a caretaker team manager if Bobby was serving only on an interim capacity. However if this position is really an emergency requirement then Bobby should have been given a free hand to pick someone he can work with without creating two centres of power. How sure are we that Tom Ogweno will not be used to frustrate Bobby’s efforts?

The EC is evidently attempting to exploit Bobby’s persona and reputation amongst the fans, to conceal their inability to deliver. The bottom line is we have not seen the end of this circus. The EC is the biggest liability in this team today and unless some radical surgery is done on it even Bobby or the Zambian will not be panacea to our predicament.

Oh Gatusso, Gatusso, Gatusso. Please know that not all fans are that gullible. How come now you are able to go to the chairman? What prevented you from seeing him upon receiving the threats? Is it by some sheer coincidence that you report for training soon after the changes in the technical bench? Remember coach AA is quoted to have said that he had no news of your whereabouts.

I abhor any threats or mistreatment of players or officials by fans but I as well abhor indiscipline. Gatusso the excuse you are giving here is lame. Go slowly young man and respect authority. Where is Stefan Effenberg? Where is Edmundo? Where is Paul Gasgoine? These were greater midfielders than you but indiscipline cut short their careers.

  • @jackowili no2,i think i agree with you, that J.B.O,could be given a free hand to pick the person he felt he was most comfortable to work with. The possibility that T.O would in the future be used to undermine J.B.O,or that serious problems will arise later between the two,is not far fetched.

  • This circus was started by the EC. Let them not hide behind JBO. They will spoil his CV. The playing unit is too bloated and therefore will not work as a unit. Every one wants to have game time. George Bwana played to the fans galore and brought in unnecessary players including the Nigerian who is being paid and cant play. Now the club has to pay off the tech bench sacked even before 4 matches are played. Lack of vision!

Well said Jackowili. I cannot comment of the rot in the technical bench, but I am almost certain that the level of indiscipline that Gatusso has exemplified needs to be checked. I am of the impression that some players felt like they were bigger than the club. Add this to any little fighting between the officials, and you have an extremely rotten football team.
To a new start K’Ogallo. We Still Believe!!

Who tells u a mzungu is better than an african in anyway…head to head i believe we are the superior beings in terms of genetic make up….all we need to do is train some of our own sons to the highest levels of coaching to take us forward….Meanwhile let’s get a good coach from anywhere in the world to come handle this team for the next 5 years…

  • it is sad though not surprising that there has been infighting at Gor Mahia…for long we have wondered what is the problem, but now it is rather clear. if Gor mahia management knew about this long long before they fired Zico ( fans forbid ) and then went ahead and hired 13 new players in the less than 2 months, then they also deserve the SACK….Lets start a fresh, new page, NEW BEGINNING. let Gor mahia make it a policy of NEVER TO HIRE A KENYAN COACH ….there is simply too much politics !!!!!

I do not want to engage you on the current debate of who should be the next K’Ogalo tactician.

The six million dollar man, or simply Bobby must hit the ground running. First by instilling discpline and two craft a team that will make us go past Ferroviaro of Mozambique. It’s not going to be easy but with our support, we will make it.

  • the problem of division within the players started during the last season. even though awono by himself was not the problem, he got caught up in it. its good the whole tech bench is out. if “bobby” does not gel with the guys then it will be the same musical chair game all over again. this problem eminates from the officials who tend to have their ppl at the bench then go out and claim how the “technical bench is free”. you saw the problem with the ‘naiga’ guy …thats how ugly it is at gor. i hope that the EC has realised their mistake and will give the tech bench the freedom needed. but this will only work if bobby can win the players confidence and ofcourse the tech bench.
problem two will be the “adidas” squad. some have written here how happy they were when jolawi was slapped. so how did that help the team?? at the moment gor mahia is simply a fashion to them, to be seen wearing the adidas top gets them to ectasy… PLS HOLD THE EC RESPONSIBLE,
    it works this;
    – its the ec who bring in their ppl to the technical bench,
    – these technical bench then pressure the coach to favour and recruit so and so,
    – the coach is then forced to favour so and so depending on how influencial the particular tech guy is
    – in no time the players realise its not how you train but how well the EC favours you.
    – EC claim that the coach has a “free hand” in team selection,
    – buy now the team co-ordination is subortaged as in the pitch.
    – the opposing teams by now know this, they beat gor,
    – the “adidas” guys send their death threats.
    – PANIC MODE… someone gets beaten(the coach mostly)…he gets fired and so own,
    – ANOTHER COACH COMES in… “adidas” praises the EC
    and we do another round.

@dinga, you are very right. To add on this “adidas” as you call them, are Kogallo’s biggest headache. I wish KPL could order Gor to play all thier remaining matches on an empty stadium. I am sure Gor would win the league. This adidas fellows are now becoming a liability. For God and my club Kogallo

Fellow bloggers help me here: It is 3 days since the Gor Mahia technical bench was roughed up and the TM assaulted by fans yet the EC has not come out to condemn that behaviour. One would have expected them to address that matter in the Monday press conference which was well covered by all the media houses. Is this not the EC that staged roadshows in Nairobi last season to sensitize fans against violence and soccer hooliganism? How much better would the large fan base get the message? Am curious to know why this studious silence. Even if their fate had already been decided by the time of the press conference it was just prudent that the incident be condemned because those men were assaulted while on official duty. Why the silence? What does the EC know and is not telling us? Were some of them also excited? IS IT A CASE OF THE SNAKE BITING WITH ITS TAIL?

How about the Mai Mahiu deaths (if true). What is the official position?
I have cited just but a few cases which really expose guys who are sleeping on the job-something they are desperately covering up with the appointment of Bobby.

  • spot on jackowili @ 18.I think you think very serious question.I also asked the question concerning the accident, coz we dont even know whether it happened or not.
The silence on the acts of hooliganism, witnessed in naivasha is both baffling and regrettable!

  • Jackowili. Let us give Rachier and Company a break. Let us also give Big Bob and Tom a break. Hapa Gor mambo ni ngumu. I once wrote here that Awono should shout loudly if there was a powerful man interfering with his work. Otherwise the buck would stop with him. I always believed that was the case. His face after games showed too much frustration. Now we are reading everywhere about interference but he is gone.

Kazi Gor ni ngumu. Let us agree to always support any team that is in place. If you watch ‘the secret’ you will discover the power of positive energy and negative energy too in equal measure.

I want to believe that this blog at the moment is a powerful source of direction for our club and would plead with all bloggers for once to try and be positive and we will witness the results. The whole Kogalo nation will turn positive.

With support any coach can achieve results. Matano did it at Sofapaka in his first season but was unable to do the same at AFC. Nyangweso now has a technical director on his head in the name of Yusuf Chipo and the results are disappearing. Negative energy is the answer. Even the playing unit must start having positive energy. If a player can’t inform his coach of his whereabouts in this age of mobiles, that player needs to go. That player is generating negative energy which affects all team members.

Let us be optimistic and generate positive energy which our club needs dearly at this moment.

  • @creative village you are spot on. We spend so much time and energy dweeling on the things that have gone past. We should use the past setbacks to right the future but instead all the energy is used maligning, whinning, cursing, hooliganism etc. These ends up clouding our vision. I only wish a quarter of the fans could understand this

  • Something to ponder…

Last season Tusker won after losing six games, same as Kogalo. Ulinzi came second after losing five games, Sofapaka was third but lost eight games. Our major undoing was the many draws we posted (12 in total or 24 points down the drain). I think it’s a blessing in disguise to lose to Muhoroni and Karuturi. The team wakes up early. For a long time last season, we were content with draws but Tusker beat us by 10 points and we threw away 24 points in the draws and 18 in the loses.

    Technical team, kazi kwenu.

  • Welcome on Board Bob, instill discipline amongst the players and do not take any interference from both the EC and the fans.

To all kogalo fans, lets hold our horses and give the new team an opportunity to deliver, let us engage in constructive criticism and avoid being prophets of doom.

The head coach MUST be given a free hand to pick his technical team, otherwise the infighting will never cease. At the moment we are not sure which officials backed Bobby and the ones who brought in TO. Soon they will start pulling apart. EC, please let the Head coach recruit his support staff. For God and my club Kogallo.

  • If what I read on gorfc.com om Felixinho is right then I think the broom that swept aside the tech bench should have extended to most members of the EC as well. We can’t be spending our hard-earned money to support the team yet some people are treating it as personal property. Shame on them.No wonder we are paying for their sins by losing games we are not supposed to be losing. I hear even the team doctor was involved in these scams. Don’t forget that the games has physical contact yet the doc behaves like that. No wonder Midenyo, Lavatsa and Hugo were out for that long. Can’t we get a medical cover for the players and only get a paramedic to handle the soft injuries to the players. Surely as GM we deserve better. I wonder why as fans our thinking and that of the officials are worlds apart. What happens to the EC once elected? Reminds me of MPs with all their promises.

  • teh mainproblem with Gor lies squarely with the EC and the Youths surrounding the team. The youth who attend training are resposible for our myriad problems both off and on the pitch. They align with playersand officials, start camps with technical bench, prefer to TC their prefered players, armtwist technical bench, you dont do this and that, propagandais being spread against you.
some of the youth brought the officials whom cant go their way and even the services of the black magic.on a number of ocassions when Gor is playing at home, you wil see a group that privides security goes to the file and in the presence of thatamnitude of fans drop witches and claim that he has performed witches and we are bound to win.
The club needs to away with this security and get in contro of the team rather than leaving to this hungry people who even fight for gate collection and even parking fee.
