Jerim Promises Improvement from team

Gor Mahia skipper Jerim Onyango has urged fans on behalf of his team mates to remain optimistic promising that the team will bounce back to winning ways starting this weekend when they take on Ferroviario in the CAF Confederations Cup return leg match set for this Saturday in Nairobi.

Jerim was speaking at the Nyayo national stadium where the team held their training ahead of the weekend fixture against the Maputo boys.

“Football has the ups and downs, we are at our lowest at the moment but we are not out, I urge the fans to continue giving us their unwavering support, we will rise and make them proud, I am confident that we can start on Saturday  in the CAF Confederations Cup return leg match, we will win it the good way to bring back the hope and faith of our fans.”

“The chairman talked to us in person on Monday, we discussed some issues regarding our team and am sure from the meeting , I wish to inform the fans that things are looking up, it was more than a motivational talk,”

During the meeting, Gor Mahia players’ allowances and salaries were all paid and the team is now looking up for better things.

“I urge the fans to forget the recent disastrous weeks, that is part of the game, I am sorry we have disappointed their expectation given that this is a new season, we need them and more especially now when we require the twelfth man on the pitch to gather the four goals against the Maputo team.” He added.

About the changes of the technical bench, Onyango said that that is part of the game and there is nothing the players can do, but work hard with the new team to ensure they deliver on what they are paid to do, offer results.

“We shall meet with the club officials probably on Friday ahead of the match, I think they will want to motivate us more.” Concluded the skipper who is beaming with confidence ahead of the return leg match.

Gor Mahia lost the first leg match 3-0 in Maputo and will need at least 4-0 at home to be guaranteed of qualification to the next round.

It is my worry that players are not in good terms with each other, and if so be the case, I think we are still doomed, unless the entire team is disbanded!

  • the main reason why this club will never get its act together is because of the management and supporters live in the 21st century but are still stuck with the 20th century mindset.our is a club that is run like a village merry go round.anyone has a say from the chair ,his subordinates, coaches, players, fans and the end product is the anarchy in the field.the prime minister has given millions to the club but the club is yet to find its feet financially and has to beg him at almost every turn?!!! tell the fans that we have to style up and have structures but they will tell you we have been doing this since inception-hii ni gor.the same fans are shocked when we get the same dismal results?!!! what was shocking about the karuturi results as statistics show that we have never won in naivasha and they have even beaten us at the city stadium.AS LONG AS WE ALL BEHAVE AS OSTRICHES AND CONTINUE RUNNING THE CLUBS ON WHIMS AND EMOTIONS THEN REST ASSURED WE WILL GET THE SAME RESULTS.

    FACTS
1)no kenyan club has ever reached the group stages of any continental competition since the group format was introduced by CAF ,but both yanga and simba have played in the CAF champions league group stages-in simbas bench then was none other than the legend james sianga.
2)no kenyan club-except mathare, has a serious youth tier system.this has led to the lack of basic skills that is seen even in the national team.players from mathare on the other hand dominate all major clubs due to munros vision and now his protege is the national team coach.
3)shockingly most gor mahia fans are well educated, have access to the media and know the ingredients needed to form a winning outfit in the long run-from TP MAZEMBE to Barcelona.these same fans know the seriousness these teams put in their youth, team preparations, investment in sports facilities i.e gymns etc, club houses e.t.c. GOR MAHIA on the other hand trains in thread bare school pitches, barely goes for camp even locally yet fans expect results??
4)the ideas we have been posting in this page and others are now being turned to action by our rivals-AFC while we engage in infantile arguments and hollow propaganda.
5)without proper structures we should learn to live with the maputo and naivasha results as in life you reap what you sow.

Mr. Captain, do your honest part and you will not go wrong, never mind about us being there, we need not swear nor promise to be there coz we are the brand, but though not a threat, we will not sit back and watch indiscipline and mismanagement destroy our brand, that is a promise! We will get to the bottom of all the filth and clean the house, önly the committed and passionate will grow in the success. Not schemers and short cutters.

  • It is always imperatiive to motivate without conditions while looking for results ..you may have good ideas but luck the ability to provide leadership which is different from management. We also talk too much. What we need now is a professional coach and, trainer. In kenya only mathare invests in them and one of @the best is DAVID OUMA. We shall overcome guys.

wuon pap i salute you your comments are all spot on, to the point and more true than the gospel, we dont even have our own training field, so what was the 60 m for caf intended for. I think we need sound branches all recognized by our constitution, these branches shld represent a geographical area and hv club houses cum branch hqs, these branch chairmen can constitute the board, we can then hv a chairman, and vc elected during agm, and then competitively appoint a c.e.o that way we can solve management and admin issues

  • NOT MERE WORDS BUT ACTION

These are very reassuring words from the captain of the biggest and most successful club in East Africa.

A captain normally play a big role both within and outside the field. Always inspiring his colleagues. I want to encourage the captain that to wear K’Ogalo armband is not only a great honor but also a priviledge.

Jerrim should also help the technical team to know what the players exactly want. Cases of indispline like absconding duties must be eliminated completely . Elsewhere, players pay a heavy price such as loosing several games and loosing montly pay depending on the weight of case. As fans, we shall always support any decision taken by the officials to instill displine to the club.

We shall be facing Ferroviaro de Maputo next. We would like to see the captain taking full charge of the team and deliver us a respectable win. We know it will not be easy but with your hardwork and determination, we shall go past Ferroviaro. My best wishes.

Jerry was a good goal keeper then I do not know what happened? Anyway say and do cos fans we have done our best. You players and the technical bench it is your turn. I still insist that even if we improve our performance with Bob ogola but still we must look for a coach to handle this team professionally. If this is not done then we shall still be swimming in the same pool.

  • This is horrible you mean that the allowances and salaries are paid when the chairman comes?
that is the bone of contention have an electronic funds transfer to pay players salaries like by 25th of every month the salaries should have paid and if you dont pay salaries on time Gor will never raise but i dont expect Rachier not to know that or even the George Bwana guy coz you see in the game of soccer is about results SO PAY AND PAY ON TIME I HOPE THE EC IS NOT DAFT ABOUT PAYING SALARIES.For country and club.

  • Mr captain JERIM when was the last time Gor mahia scored 4 goals against an opponent. To be honest , i think you have to go back some few years. Frankly i think Gor mahia have forgoten to score…………..a good incentive would have been mafans promise each player 5,000 bob for every goal scored upto 3 goals and 10,000 bob for each player for the 4th goal !!!!!! NOW WE ARE TALKING PERFORMANCE ….YAWA !!!!!

Wuön pap, i salute you for never tiring to say it over and over again, may be one day it shall come to pass. Your one new point to treasure in above article is that fans are living in 21st century but with 20th century mentality! I still wonder why people are surprised with the results while for example the recruitment was largely done by the ec to the point that the tech bench had to reject some actors…

  • Wuonpap, on your Fact no 1, the issue is not the fans nor the EC. The issue as i stated earlier is the KPL calendar. The team Sofapaka thrashed at Nyayo has won the cup. The reason for Kenyan teams failure is the timing of CAF competitions and the start of our league. Bring Ferroviario towards the mid or end of our league and they can’t hit three past Kogalo. Mozambique, just like Kenya is not even doing well in soccer.

Please don’t blame fans for being proactive with suggestions and having arguments about the same. It is not fans or supporters who run the club. Fans merely suggest. What is Kogalo without fans anyway? If fans are so wrong, why do you even post your suggestions? Are you not one of the fans?

We suggested that the team needs a bus earlier, the bus came. We suggested that they bring more strikers, the EC did. We suggested they bring in another keeper, the EC did bring two. We suggested they bring defenders, some came. We said Zico must go, they kicked him out. We said Awono must go, they kicked him out. We suggested they try and organize camps for players, the EC has done that this season. We suggested that the price of the jerseys be lowered, the prices are down and soon will be affordable. We said Kogalo needs a stadium, the chair said the land has been identified in Embakasi and is one of his campaign pledges to develop. And many more suggestions…

Let us understand things clearly. This club just like our country, went through a very rotten patch and will take some time for real development to be seen. From 1968 to 2008, there are basic things that were never talked about. One thing that cannot be denied is that the club is on the correct direction. Can we look at the positives for once. Why is our glass always half empty. Let us support those we elected. Let us continue pushing through great ideas. Let us hope that the EC will be willing to at least consider some of the ideas. From where i sit, i feel we have a proactive office this time. Let us engage them positively.

Fans can indeed live with what they sow. We are sowing great ideas. We hope to reap greater benefits for the club. But it all takes time. Patience is the issue here. I believe Ingwe will continue copying Kogalo ideas. That is a good thing.

  • You will never win any contest against the fans of a football club, so please don’t even try it. Please don’t call “us” names i.e QUACKS but freely air your opinion and educate us if you can. The success of a Football club is directly proportional to the number of loyal fans that it commands. These are the people who buys the club merchandise, tickets and any other memorabilia associated with the club hence the huge income posted. They will occasionally and directly contribute to the club kitty i.e when Gor Mahia was buying the club bus. So I once again call upon us to exercise restrain and caution when commenting and correcting each other on the blog sphere. We come in different shapes, colours, passions, emotions, generations, intentions and historical backgrounds. You can control, reduce and gradually eliminate hooliganism from our football but you can not achieve all this in one fell swoop. Let us not overburden the EC with RHETORIC SUGGESTIONS one after the other even before implementing earlier undertakings.

    YOUTH POLICY

    FACT 1:
This is a universally accepted fact that for sustainability, a team Must have a meaningfully Run Youth System. This lessens the cost of signing new players in cases where some prodigious talents come through the systems. For example Jack Wilshere, Kyeran Gibbs, Cesc Faregas, Emmanuel Frimpong and Cocqueline all came through for Arsenal and Garry Neville, Phil Neville, David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Paul Scoles and Ryan Giggs came through for Man United (the class of 1992). This is not the norm, its an exception because from 1992,Man United have never unearthed such a group of talented players. In its twenty Years of existence, the EPL has unearthed Allan Shearer, Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney as the only Strikers of repute(World-class). Except for the latter-day Barcelona, all other teams have Youth Systems to grow and develop talents not necessarily to be on top. They supplement their income whenever they sell some of the academy graduates.

In a nutshell- having a successful Youth System does not guarantee direct success on the pitch for the senior team. All the teams in the major European Leagues as a rule, MUST have a running Youth System. But not all of them have been made SUCCESSFUL by these academies at the SENIOR TEAM LEVEL. West Ham United, Nottingham Forest, Charlton Athletics, Ipswich City, Southampton and Lutton are some of the Teams with re-known Youth Systems in the English League. In the Senior level, all these teams play in the Lower Leagues of the English Championship. In Kenya, Mathare United runs one of the well known football academies in Africa, but this has not translated into direct success for the Senior Team. Football is a business/ Employment where players tend to go where their interest will be well looked after. Pay big monies for top talent, employ qualified coaches and you will get the desired results. This season 2012- Mathare have lost all their first four matches despite having one of the best managed Youth System.

    CONCLUSION

We MUST invest wisely in the team and purposely choose to do the following.

1.We should PURPOSELY build or purchase a club house with a physical address where all the queries concerning the club can be addressed. Where Club Merchandise and Memorabilia can be ordered and be purchased. Where trophies won and their replicas can be displayed for the fan’s viewing.

    2. We should identify and purchase a field / land to put up a modern training centre for the club. The EC can mobilize the the million of Gor Mahia fans world-wide to contribute towards this project. A management / Project Committee can be instituted to oversee the running of this project..

3.A comprehensive and professional system of recruiting players MUST be developed and adopted by the club. We MUST have designated and only qualified scouts whose MAIN responsibility will be to identify and to point out players to the technical team.

    4. The Recruitment/Signing of players MUST be the SOLE responsibility of the HEAD COACH assisted by the other members of the technical bench. This should only be carried out on need-be basis and after thorough scrutiny by the technical bench.

5.Finally, only QUALIFIED personnel with track-records should be engaged by the club, from the groundsman, kits-man, the physio, the team manager and the coaches.
