Its time to repair fences and reconcile

Understandably, there are frayed nerves amongst Gor Mahia fans and officials following the fiasco involving Frank Nuttall’s apparent firing. A source indicated to goal.com that the coach is not on speaking terms with the officials.

“The situation is very bad. Most of the elected officials don’t want anything to do with the coach because they feel he set them up against the fans,” said the source.

Having a club where EC members are not communicating with the head coach is no way to run a club especially considering the fact that Gor Mahia is facing a difficult season ahead.

In many ways, the club is starting afresh. They lost assistant coach Bobby Ogolla who took up the position of head coach at Ulinzi Stars. They also parted ways with Meddie Kagere, Michael Olunga and could also lose Ali Abondo who is now on trials with Cape Town Ajax of South Africa. Losing the three top strikers from last season means the club has to start building the attack from scratch. Coach Nuttall is well aware of the task ahead.

“Looking at the way we played against Bandari, I can say we played well and created numerous chances. We could have finished off the game in the first half even before Shakava (Haroun) was sent off, but unfortunately we did not take our chances,” Nuttall told Goal.

“We have a few days before the season proper kicks-off and we need to get that chemistry between the attackers and midfielders. We have to take our chances and avoid situations like the ones on Saturday. However, I am expecting a good season and hopefully we can successfully defend the title. ” said Nuttall

And Nuttall also has to deal with the fact that Khalid Aucho is still playing truant and Innocent Wafula’s whereabouts are unknown though team manager Jolawi Obondo assured fans that the duo would link up with the team this week. But even if Wafula arrives, the issue of his true nationality would need to be resolved first.

But Nuttall performed similar magic when the club lost several of its attacking options including Dan Sserunkuma, Godfrey Kizito, Rama Salim, Kevin Omondi, Timonah Wanyonyi and others in 2014.

Nuttall led the club to a historic season after losing key players and also had to deal with constant player go-slows.

Given support from officials and fans he can perform a similar feat and even better. So now is the time to put aside hostilities and work for the betterment of the club.

Fans will hope that the EC will realize that the request to Nuttall to take a 50% pay-cut was not reasonable. Here is coach who stayed with the club through difficulties while the likes of Zdravko Logarusic bailed out in mid-season.

Meanwhile details have emerged regarding how politicians Hassan Omar and Eliud Owalo prevailed upon Chairman Rachier to change his stance on Nuttall.

“We hosted the team to a luncheon in Mombasa (on Friday) and you could feel the tension brought by the absence of the coach and frustration from fans on social media,” Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar told the Nation.

“We talked to the chairman (Ambrose Rachier) and he was categorical the club couldn’t afford him. But we are talking about a good and experienced coach here and they don’t come cheap. I’m glad we have convinced both parties to negotiate the way forward.”

“I was bombarded by calls from supporters. They told me we don’t want to hear about the food, they just want the management to reinstate the coach,” said Eliud Owalo, a political analyst and an ardent Gor Mahia fan.

Ambrose Rachier, please be the lawyer that you are and be professional in your dealings with Nuttal. We expect you to agree to disagree, then mutually come to an agreement to work. After all you are vying for FKF chairmanship where you will face lots of opposition, won’t you talk to them because you have opposing ideas? Mature up. Give Nuttal space. Otherwise you might face the wrath of Jokogallo, very soon.Respect that bwana chair.

  • Not being in speaking terms is a non-issue. So long as the to parties are professionals in their jobs then it matters NOT wether EC invite Nuttal for Nyama choma. Nuttal has his job description and I do not think that having a cordial relationship with the EC is one of them.
You work for Gor Mahia FC.

Well said @Dinga. Even in the first 11 there are players who are sworn enemies but still deliver. The only thing we shouldn’t forget is that it makes life/work easier if there is friendship at work. Being professionals every ne has their own deliverable to work on so we shouldn’t worry about the talking terms.
On Wafula and Aucho I think it’s immature of them to stay away even when one is injured unless authorized by the club. I think most of the local soccer players need to be educated on the some of the stunts they pull. They are actually workers just like someone who goes to the office where being away for seven days results in instant dismissal or any other disciplinary action

It is very important that club officials get along. If there is still tension between officials, then the likelihood of infighting is higher. If there is still tension then Nuttall will not be interested in coming back at the end of the year. Good coaches are not easy to find.

Back in 2012, Gor Mahia was dismissed by Ferroviario of Maputo. It later emerged that infighting within the technical bench and within the EC was the cause of the lacklusture display. Gor Mahia continued to lose until the entire bench was jettisoned and Bobby Ogolla and Logarusic were brought in. I remember the team was at one point in the relegation zone

  • How could it be just after securing sponsorship then hell broke loose from EC. Kwani if they smell money then they become mad people who don’t reasons.

Recipes for success is harmony and unity in the whole team running GM, anything other than this will bring avenue for backstabbing, sabotage of which will results in total chaos.

As at now, this office is not ready to work with FN and I have a feeling they will try everything possible to bring him down. The only medicine is to wash this office clean by demanding for an election.

Nutall also made a big mistake….pitting us the vulnerable fans against the executive committee .now we are all against the executive committee, Nutall is smiling and everybody else is unhappy.what is the point?

@jakoyo what did you expect Nuttal to do?. He was fired and went public with a duly signed press statement because Gor Mahia has many stakeholders besides the executive committee.

@jakoyo FN never incited fans to react to his statement but he was officially informing them that his tenure has been prematurely brought to an end due to contractual obligations disagreement.

@ jakoyo It is the Executive Committee which was vulnerable and not fans or Nuttal because the prevailing circumstance did not warrant such a decision. And as a matter of fact the issue of Nuttal and AR fallout started boiling out last year and it was just the timing that AR got wrong. And this might be costly to him.

More money..more problems!!its rather obvious that the EC have a hidden agenda concerning the coach. Is he too professional for them or is it just the kenyan culture where anyone who goes against the status quo(read Eating)gets shafted out??
Correction admin…the last time i checked JBO was at City Stars…not Ulinzi.Unless he moved and we are not aware!!

Now i totally agree with ODUOR12, and true to his words that AR is actually another Nyamweya cum Sep Blatter in the making. How i wish Nick Mwendwa should trounce him in FKF polls so that he can have undivided attention with matters pertaining to K’Ogalo and especially the elections.

The most disgusting thing is that “Politician had to sweet talk him” to reinstate “FN”. I think AR has hit the dead end and outlived his resourcefulness in managing K’Ogalo. This can be justified by the heckling, booing and name-calling that he encountered at Mbaraki grounds. No wonder he sneaked away to avoid the wrath of supporters.

We have a patron. Patron should wakeup and deal with this issue once he is briefed.

For the EC please please, you started it all and should offer not only Nuttal but entire Gor fraternity an Olive branch before it is too late. If Gor records negative result and Nuttal having a good track record, you are likely to be sacrificed. Play on at your own peril

  • We are grateful to AR for bringing stability and a reliable office to work out Gor Mahia issues. That he tried yo force FN out of the door is an act that is forgivable. We therefore, as owners of Gor Mahia demand that the EC must extend an olive branch to coach FN so that a long lasting peace can once again prevail in Gor Mahia. If this is done in time them I have no doubt in my mind that we shall be successful this year.

Let there be ceasefire declared. We have a common enemy in CNaps coming. We can not be in the same house and refuse to talk to each other. One of the parties involved must be very immature or just arrogant. In cases of agreeing to disagree, the best option is taken. In this case the best option is Nuttal. if he had stayed with us during the turbulent times I think we can all find a middle ground by sitting on the same table and discussing the situation and the way forward. If all come with a predetermined position then that can be a challenge. My advise therefore is to the Executive, remember that Nuttal is a Professional Coach with results and also has an ear to listen and has no arms to be twisted.

Sometime you have to agree with facts. As per rachier gor cannot afford to pay nutall, I agree with rachier coz gormahia is broke because if u interrogate the sportpesa fully u will concur with me that the deal or sponsorship with sportspesa is around 12million per year or 1million per month so per month gor gets (kpl grant ksh 650,000+sportspesa deal ksh 1,000,000+supersport grant ksh500,000=total ksh 2,150,000) per month. So this figures cannot sustain to pay coach n Tb n players. The mistake the rachier n sportspesa did was to big mouth n talk big millions which are not there. Is like jubiri gova talking of multi million projects to fool vulnerables yet in actuals all are lies. So gor is still broke

  • Who cares what rachier thinks? He is not Gor Mahia if he wants he can walk away.I will not worship the EC because i pay for my own gate fee and bus fares for the benefit of Kogalo and my entertainment.Don’t mess with Nuttal my friend he is here to stay.

Problems to be solved 1. Poor running of matches on the pitch like that of Bandari and gor, 2. Elections are compulsory

  • I see Gor losing weekend match if the EC continue with this nonsense.
This people managed to pay the coach without a sponsor, does it mean the coach’s contract has been revised upwards and if not, why tell us now that the coach is too expensive whereas its you people who negotiated and signed the contract with the coach

Again do not fear anyone if they do note release funds in time for training and Logistics we shall be there to push them REM you are in Africa where people must be pushed and bitten for them to do and see good things that can help them . Atfter all we have many qualified professionals who can be at the EC of Gor mahia so build the team confidently sir?

Sobriety, sobriety – lets have sober minds as we deal with this sensitive matter. This can make or break this team. No name calling please, its all familiar human nature, people differ on certain issues and when resolved, the same people come back and sit at one table, talk and share meals. It is therefore utterly naive for the EC now not to be talking to the coach. If that is true, can any thing really work at the club? Tell me CAN ANYTHING WORK? So it is either you mend the fences permanently and work together or one side has to give way. That’s the way I see it, and before it’s too late.

@ black market , you are SPOT ON ! this sport pesa deal simply cannot sustain the like of Nutall. He is going to drive a war between him , the technical bench and the players. How can one coach earn more than half of the monthly purse ? surely, this issue has really pissed me off completely and the fact that the whole world knows how much Nutall is asking for is even more annoy.

I appeal to fans to come to your senses and lets deal with the real issues without naming names. People are frustrated in silence and this silence will boil over !!!

Why is it difficult to forget with the Auchos and Wafulas of this world.
The team went to Ethiopia and Soudan , came back with positive results without these bring heads.
Football in essence is team work and if anything we will get results we deserve not because we do not have them..how can an employee abscond duty and still be under persuasion?

I saw a very good midfield without these bring heads..remember players with superiority complex will cause prolonged tension among the playing unit.

  • @Jakoyo, Nuttal even before the sportspesa deal.

It’s ufortunate that some of our fans think that once we have a sponsor then even gate collections should come down. Wait and see them forcing their way into the stadium on Sato under the pretense that we have a sponsor. The ManUs, Barca, Real, Bayern with lucrative sponsorships are still the teams which charge the most expensive to attend their games.
Sponsorship money just helps to fill a gap but the fans still need to assist the team
