Kogalo, Ingwe fans in peace drive

Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards have joined hands for a peace initiative ahead of the GOtv Shield final on November 16.

City restaurant, Wakawaka, through its Director, Job Nyamao, has offered to bring the two antagonists together before, during and after the much awaited derby that will be played at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The restaurant will host a get together where officials of the two teams will have lunch together preceded by a joint press conference to foster peace among their fans.

Nyamao has appealed to other sponsors to follow suit and come up with more of such activities between these two popular clubs whose fans have often clashed in the past.

He has also pledged to sponsor a ‘Mashemeji’ night next week with top artists from Nyanza and Western Provinces to entertain guests on a date the officials of the two clubs will agree upon.

While addressing fans at the restaurant on Friday (November 8), AFC Leopards Secretary General, George Alwada endorsed the idea and asked hooligans to keep off the field on match day.

He also congratulated Gor for winning the Kenyan Premier League crown but promised them a tough encounter during the final.

Gor Mahia’s Secretary General, George Bwana did not attend the meeting but asked both sets of fans to heed the peace message and thanked Wakawaka Restaurant for their noble idea.

  • Owino Vincent u r right in-laws don’t fight. My wife is a fc(Abaluhya fc) damu we used to go to watch matches since 1970 together we could either be in any side of the main center without problems at tok komwanda. But nowadays those who pretend to be fans can’t make things easy for us eged one still i do go but alone because of the stone experts who are not real Kógalo. We go to the stadium to enjoy and fight let us educate our young fans to understand why we go to the stadium and not just watch the tv in the house. There things which if you are alone you don’t enjoy.
The issue of tickets EC should come up with away that you get your ticket with no force.I was unable to get a ticket at Kasarani-Gor/City Stars due to force where old ones could not make it. Nyao stadium is okay but tok -komwanda is worse if those security vans are not there for the purchase of tickets. Please EC organise how we old fans can get there tickets in advance and enter without being pushed by those strong young fans.I hate watching Gor on tv but some are forced due to hooligans pretending to be true fans.

  • The peace initiative is a good gesture. However little it may be but one has to start somewhere. Such things, will awaken good consciousness in the minds of those who are always bent towards bringing mayhem. A person associated with hooliganism ought to know that what they do only exposes their ignorance. It is said that football began in England and even with the love of EPL we seldom hear or see them fighting and causing mayhem after every other game. Sporadically things happen but they do not make it a life style. The full force of the law is equally applied. Why should these hooligans therefore think that the stadium is a place to show their machismo? They should remember because of our Love for Soccer, some of us take our children to watch. In this way we are transitioning them. We would not like to transition a hooligan to the next generation.I therefore appeal to the intelligence of anyone reading and listening to ponder over this and take an appropriate step to be associated with the Peace loving Gor Mahia True fans.

@Dan allow me to register my sympathies and solidarity with you over that uncalled for affront on you by some blogger in the preceding article. Pole ndugu. I am lost for words.

I am just wondering why those organizing Gor Mahia celebrations have overlooked presenting the trophy in a church to give thanks and return the glory to Almighty God. Look back and you will see that it took the hand of God to grind some of those results. Cases in point: the 1-0 first leg win over Efusi at Nyayo when we were outplayed, outwitted and overrun in almost all departments. How about the mother of all come backs at Kasarani against the same team. A day for the boys in a church that worships in truth and spirit is not a bad idea at all.

  • I think this match is not about winning the trophy &/or money but its about who is the best club in kenya currently. So I want 2 ask our players to be ready to give us what we deserve which is bragging rights. If we fail to win that match then winning the kpl trophy will be overshadowed by a loss to our arch rivals who we cannot ignore the fact that they r equally good. But even if we loose lets know that its just a game & we shud not fight bcos we lost even though it can be painful to loose to Mashemeji.

As @Barefoot puts it we used to go to St. Stephen’s Church on Jogoo road before our matches and we used to win beautifully (nice game, beautiful goals, name it). Nowadays we have stopped that and looks like everyone prays at his/her own place. We should bring back that solidarity.
On hooliganism and peace I think the more we interact with Shemejis the more the hooligans mellow down. For a start the idea of Mashemeji nite is not a bad start. How about organising a fans match, one for the Divas and one for the men? And also having some CSR activities together. These activities will soften even the hearts of the toughest hooligan. Am impressed that the Gor and Ingwe veterans will curtain raise the derby. That’s how it should be.
Above all I pray for a win for us to stck our trophy shelf even more. Then we await Tusker on the 14th Dec for still another trophy

invest heavily in security too…that part should never be overlooked in-spite of the peace-drive initiative!!!
