When Moreno Batamba praised Gor Mahia for winning CECAFA

In 1981, famous Congolese musician Wenda Batamba Morris, popularly known by his stage name Moreno sung a song in praise of Gor Mahia.

This was one among many songs that were composed about Gor Mahia during this period by bands such as congolese band Super Mazembe, the Tanzanian David Owino Misiani as well as local musicans like Juma Toto. But this song was particularly well written and recalled the fact that Gor Mahia had won the league four times had become the first East African team to reach a continental cup final and had recently won the CECAFA club cup.

He urges Kenyans to join in supporting Gor Mahia because it has brought a lot of fame and acclaim to Kenyans

He goes on to name the protagonists who played for Gor Mahia at the time. And what a formidable squad it was. Among the players named is :

  • I also join in to congratulate the old team, they are the reason I still love Gor Mahia. The legacy is still fresh on my mind though I was a very young boy at the time. One man al saute is the TM, David Ouma, aka ‘Orangos’ he gave his all as the team manager. May God rest his soul in eternal peace.
