Zesco apparently confirms Calabar deal

There have been multiple rumours linking David Owino “Calabar” to various teams since November. He has been linked with moves to Europe, to Sudan, Tanzania and now Zambia. When the Zambia deal was first announced, this blog opted to wait until it was confirmed. Zesco United have now made public their provisional list of players for the CAF champions league. This list which includes “Calabar” was previously only available to media houses.

Zesco official Justin Mumba has said that nothing was done without consent of Gor Mahia. “The parent club must know and in this case, the player has an agent in Kenya who negotiated with Gor Mahia and as Zesco, we have a letter from Gor Mahia giving us the green light. At the moment no contract has been signed yet but both parties have reached an agreement” he told futaa.com

“Let it be clear also that in Zambia, we cannot sign a player without the consent of the parent club’s consent. The agent negotiated with the club and we were only given the package pending medicals. All that has been agreed is through the agent but we insisted we cannot sign a contract until the player goes through medicals. We are a professional club who does things transparently and not under the table. ”

In the deal, Calabar is set to pocket Ksh 1.8 million while Gor Mahia gets Ksh 1.4 million. This is a raw deal for the club and a starke contract to Europe where the parent club gets the majority of the transfer fees.

The fact that Calabar’s name has been included in the CAF lists for both Zesco and Gor Mahia is not an issue since the lists are provisional and can be altered before January 15.

” I do not know why the anxiety. That is a provisional list because we had the deadline to beat. We therefore had to submit whatever we had and are expecting to have but upon everything, the final list shall be sent confirming all the participants. If the player, and not him (David Owino) alone, we also have one from Nigeria doesn’t go through the exercise successful, he will be replaced at the appropriate time.” continued Mumba.

This move likely brings an end to months of speculation about Calabar’s future. It is better for Gor Mahia for Gor Mahia to sell him now than risk letting him go for free in six months. However the Ksh 1.4 million amount is paltry. And the move leaves Gor Mahia rather short on defenders.

I don’t think we are short of defenders rather we are short of strikers

  • So who is this gor official who brokered the deal……..secondly, other than rumors from the EC officials have we officially signed any player . Reliable sources tell me that offers have been made to the players purported to be dinged by gor mahia but none has been concretised.

As we lament about new signings let’s vote #279# to make our team the best in SOYA awards. As we whine Sofa fans are voting then as is typical of us we will say that the vote was rigged

    Signs of another “Situmbeko” saga.
It seems that the Gor official has pawned off “King David” and the motives are obvious.
Surely of what benefit is this bloated EC to GMFC. The left hand never knows what the right hand is doing.
Apparently though the lists are provisional the “King”‘name appears on both GMFC list and Zesco’s.

@ WAB, yes players have not been paid their December pay & we expect them to win trophies!-below see article from goal.com.T
The only positive aspect of this transfer will be if the players salary arrears are settled from the transfer fee before they start training.

Gor Mahia players paid part of their salary arrears.

Gor Mahia players had a reason to celebrate when the club off-set part of their two month arrears easing their financial burden this festive season

Gor Mahia management paid part of the player’s salary arrears on Wednesday afternoon in the wake of complains over unpaid dues.

The players received their salary for November and were told to wait for this month’s pay and most of them were glad to get something to celebrate with their loved ones.

“It is true we have been paid and we are truly grateful to the club for keeping its word. Though, it is only one month salary, we still appreciate because it will go along way to ease our financial burdens at this time,” midfielder Collina ‘Gatusso’ Okoth told Goal.

Okoth further confirmed that he is ready to negotiate for a new deal at the club once his current one expires next June.

“The club has approached me with the intention of negotiating for a new deal and iam open to it. I still want to play for Gor Mahia.”

The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions are struggling financially after losing their shirt sponsor last season and have found it difficult to pay players on time.

The writing is on the wall. It is increasingly becoming obvious that Calabar will be plying his trade in Lusaka. Wish him the very best. Go out, shine and be an Ambassador of K’Ogalo.

My only worry is who is going to fill the gap in defence.

    Corruption at EC
From the previous posting of the blogger comrade Pascal I quote “The deal is not yet through. We have not settled the transfer as its pending the player attending medicals possibly by Monday, 5th January if he passes then we can go ahead and finalize everything. We have a letter from Gor Mahia official (name withled) giving us the green light. At the moment no contract has been signed yet but both parties have reached an agreement ” he said.

We can read sinister motive by EC member trying to broker the transfer of Calabar to ZESCO. The funds from this transfer will end into some people pockets and this will be regrettable as EC members are unilaterally involved in milking the club dry. These are the reasons why the current Gor Mahia EC members can not bring any positive and meaningful change to the club despite the good proposals being suggested by the bloggers and fans.

    Elusive Change
We are exposed and any meaningful change can not be effected in this great club with the current crop of these greedy EC members. Officials are happy with the current disorganized structure where there are loopholes of eating and stealing the little money in club coffers.

How was the money collected used?
I am very surprised that part of the lots of money collected after the end of the league were never used to settle the salaries and allowances due to players. The old and new wine in the EC must be made to account for every cent collected from gate, KPL prize money, well wishers, Harambee, president visit, friends etc during the last season.

    Over stay in Club leadership
There are officials that have stayed too long in the club hierarchy that need to retire and these officials include the following:-
    1. Ambrose Rachier
    2. Ronald Ngala.
    3. David Kilo
    4. Jack Orowe

These should be joined by Naima Oketch.

Why Gor Mahia can’t get sponsors?
The above facts confirms why we can not get a sponsor for this club with excuses being given by the same office as politics is the main reason why we can’t get a sponsor. Lack of accountability and well established structures are the undoing of the club to secure a sponsor as I can bet that some of these officials are the main reasons the club can not move forward.nthey are the stumbling blocks in turning the club to money making institution that can really do well.

    Fans apathy
Gor Mahia is the best supported team in the country and yet we can’t translate that fanatical support with money in the account. Why? This is beacuse management of the club is not willing to take advantage due to poor management style. Fans apathy is due to rot and corruption at the office. If the office is transparent, fans will be willing to spare their scarce resources to support the club with either monthly contribution, bimonthly, semi annually, annually. For example look at the initiatives such as paybill.nthis failed due to poor structure and lack of trust and accountability with the little resources.

    Financial misappropriation
This is no accountability with the little resources within the club coffers. Why can’t the EC account for every cent no matter the size whether small or large. We do not have audited accounts all these years Ambrose Rachier has been in office. We can only scrutinize what is provided for in the audited account. This is an area we as fans have failed the club. We need to demand for annual audited accounts at the end of every financial year.

Any serious sponsor will demand for audited account to be confident enough that their resources will be utilized in a more transparent way but not ad hoc basis as the current case. Where are the audited accounts for the club?

Any investor will analyse the financial statement before any informed decision can be made. I can not put my money where there is no proper systems of financial management. We all want value for our money no matter the size of the amount.

    Money making initiatives
It will be difficult to pursue any money making iniatives with the current crop of leadership. We have suggested a number of initiatives that include the following:-
    1. Restructuring of gate collections while Secretary General had good ideas but was killed by the club leadership
    2. Reorganizing and restructuring of procurement and sale of club merchandise. Currently this is being owned and run by Kilo and Ngala. Where do we go for purchase of replica jerseys and any other Gor Mahia branded Merchandise.
    3. SACCO very noble and excellent idea but who will be accountable to it with the current structure of money hungry officials
    4. Membership fees and affiliations…who can implement this long term objective?
    5. Membership recruitment drive…who can run with this under the current circumstances?
    6. Innovation at the club…who can do this and achieve sponsors for the innovative ideas.
    7. Youth development .. Very excellent ideas by the Secretary General but lack of support by the EC. This is the only way for nurturing the talent and saving the money in the transfer market where you will only bring exceptional talent to augment the structure within the club.
    8. Partnership development with the corporate entities and county government. Big money making initiative but who can initiate it with EC interested in immediate money in the pockets.
Secretary General had a good idea to work with Diamond Trust Bank and Chase Bank but ideas died natural death as their will be no benefits to the pockets of EC members.

We at times pass judgement too fast. We must b happy that we are able to sight, develop and sell talent. Thats very lucrative if handled professionally. Fact is we dont have money n when in such a position u develop n sell ur assets by hyping them up. That is business, but sell with future in mind.

The problem with us kenyans is that we pass judgement without facts to suppott them. We might not like the EC but can we prove the corruption anf incompetence? For thr current office to leave just like that there must be a fall back podition. Is there one?

The other problem with us Kenyans is sycophancy.
A sycophant will always ask for substantiation of the obvious i.e facts.
I refer them to the retort (which is a landmark ruling) of the Late Jean Marie and that Late Martin Shikuku need not substantiate the ‘Kanu is Dead statement” because it is obvious.

In Nov14 EC had +kshs12M in its coffers yet players November salaries were paid on 24th Dec 2014. The same players we demand to be on top on their game and win trophies have not been paid December salaries yet on Monday schools open and most have to pay rent etc.
These players have to make do nay stretch the November salary to cover their December and now Jan expenses.

And some still ask for proof of EC’s incompetence.

Of coz don’t expect a sycophant to envisage life without their “Kings”. For them GMFC starts and ends with certain officials.
In fact in their books these individuals actually bank roll GMFC not steal from it.

I have a question if “Flava” left mid season in 2013 would we have lifted the league after 18 years. And how would we have fared with “Flava” goals in 2014. Swali tu
Nobody is denying the players should look for greener pastures but something is definitely amiss when a club official is the one fronting the deal while there are other officials trying to get the same player to extend his contract.
Its called serious conflict of interest and its GMFC that you profess love for that suffers.
That said EC please use any monies for “King David”‘s transfer to clear all players remuneration arrears.

Does it mean that if you dont agree with blanket condemnation of everything done by EC then you are a sycophant. What if we were to make wild accussations without proof that ODUOR12 misappropriated funds belonging to fans. Are we sure no one will ask me to provide facts.

I would urge him to throw in the towel if he continue any more. blessed

@Dan Original, we have to criticise in all areas we are doing poorly and are also providing a solution to the club.

Gor Mahia should not be run like a jua kali kiosk with no structures and internal control processes. For us to minimise in looting at gate, we need watertight internal processes that should include the idea of using a bank to sell our gate entry tickets and membership registration.

We need partners that can help the club seal all loopholes of misappropriation of funds in all value chain areas. This is the only we way we can have prudent management of our finances.

If I may ask, have you ever seen our published or audited financial statements? How do we know the healthiness of the club finances? Gor Mahia is more of a public club and everything happening regarding our revenues and expenditures should be published for members to scrutinised. This will also attract sponsors.

We can not attract any sponsor if we are not transparent and accountable to all stakeholders.

Where is the money to steal leave alone looting from a club like Gor Mahia. Jo thurwa, I fail to understand you sometimes. We need sponsors ASAP, no doubt about that, but EC cannot force anybody to sponsor the team. We as fans we have contributed immensely to this sponsorship crisis we find ourselves in. We said everything negative about TUZO and hooliganism.
Gor Mahia was in limbo when some members of the current EC took over. We can see the progress they have made so far. From a relegation bound team 7 years ago to 2 KPL titles, GOTV shield, TUZO sponsor, Medical Insuarance etc. When @jimmy amimo says that the EC is taking Gor to where it got, then I am left wondering what yard stick he is using.
I am happy that EC seems used to this noise and are never distracted. No one is perfect, but truth be told, this EC has done well under the prevailing circumstance. They can do better, and that should be our aim. But baseless accusation will take us absolutely nowhere.

Now that one of our main financers is gone i expect the rest of us to chip in. By the way can someone tell me the source of this money being stolen and the evidence to back the allegations

David Owino is one of the players I admire on how he has carried himself on the pitch.I think he has also been patient very. My innermost desire would have been for him to remain. But again I ask myself, Would that add value to his own personal life? Or I would just be happy to see him defending well.Based on this I really wished that he would one day get a good perk somewhere since it looks like our financial muscle is still weak.I think also that elevation to a good package in a foreign land is an appreciation of the ground on which Calabar has been playing,Gor Mahia. I wish him well in his new assignment.Thank you Calabar for your very faithful and committed Services to Gor Mahia. God bless you.

It’s also good that we got something from the deal. We usually get a raw deal. This also means that players stand a good chance with DSTv exposing them all over Africa and not the local TV that FKF wants to air the local games

This EC is very inept and not focus driven. They need to have a masterplan for Gor. Do they? Just the other day bayern munich finished paying financiers of their stadium 15 years ahead of schedule. Here we still pilfer the only direct income for the club. We can always post pictures of those seen pocketing gate monies of the club n name, shame n possibly check for ways of instituting charges. If the EC cant take charge y dont we.

  • UPDATE DAY 1 TRAINING

    Day 1 of training 5th January 2015

    – only 15 players appeared for training at the city stadium coordinated by JBO and ouna.
    – NUTALL , no where on sight and his whereabouts unknown.
    – no sign of new players EC has been claiming to have acquired…..only boniface oluoch was spotted watching the training from the stands.
    – innocent mutiso was also in training despite rumors that he has left the club.

As much as the first day was on a slow start, I think that both JBO and Ouna are capable persons.Though I did not attend the training, they must have taken them through the paces that are necessary at this time.Long breaks must be handled very cautiously.Transfer periods are usually full or rumors but I also do not think that the EC has been taking a nap. So despite the challenges that were, we want to appreciate the new faces and when the house is full, it will be something to admire.Like last year, I am sure the new signings are all going to be unveiled at the same time.If it also true that Mutiso left then I think it is admirable to see him come back because after all they are still friends.
