Registered Gor Mahia members will converge in Nairobi on Wednesday June 12 in a Special General Meeting (SGM) to ratify the amended club constitution.
The amendments have been necessitated by the need to comply with the Sports Act 2013 which directs that only three officials are mandated to run the affairs of the club.
The current Gor Mahia executive is bloated with up to 11 officials. Club CEO Lordvic Aduda says the draft document has also complied with the CAF and FIFA rules which recognizes up to three registered officials.
“CAF and FIFA stipulate that the CEO or the General Manager, the treasurer and the Secretary general are the ones mandated with the running of club affairs and other elected officials will not be allowed in active running of the club,’’ explained Aduda.
Adduda claimed that the draft document meets the sports registrar’s orders and CAF Act which provides for the formation of a secretariat. Part of the CAF requirement is for the club to have a competent logistics officer, director of marketing, a competent security officer, amongst others.
Other positions include a qualified public relations officer and a publicity officer. As per CAF and FIFA, the positions of CEO, finance officer and the secretary general should not be elective.
These officials should be appointed such that in the event the tenure of office bearers lapses, the running of the club will not be shaken since the appointed officials will continue executing their duties.
This is in the wake of a few troubles that faced the club with players going without pay in some instances and delayed release of player allowances.
Aduda is optimistic the new set up will bring a new lease of life to the club with the secretariat working only up to the newly set limit.
In April 2019, a special team of experts mandated to re-draft the constitution presented their draft but was returned for fine tuning to comply with the Sports act, CAF and FIFA regulations.
Later in December, there will be an Annual General Meeting(AGM) to be held in Nairobi.
In the meantime, Aduda says there will be a few changes in the playing unit after coach Hassan Oktay handed to the office his proposal documenting the areas he wants beefed up before next season.
This is after Rwandese Jacques Tuyisenge opted to leave the club and join Angola’s Petro Atletico. Francis Kahata and Philemon Otieno are also rumoured to be on their way out of the club.
He however says they are only sure of Tuyiseng’e departure, adding that is the only deal all parties have been involved.
“This is purely the work of technical bench, but the players we are targeting have contracts with their current clubs and we have to follow the rules. Some of them are however almost done and we will put their names to the public domain soon’’.
