Gor Mahia bow out

from futaa.com
Gor Mahia FC has been knocked-out of the CAF Confederations Cup following their 0-1 loss to Ferroviaro de Maputo, on Saturday 10 March, at Nyayo National Stadium, for the Mozambique based-side to advance to the next round on 4-0 aggregate.

The Domestic Cup winners needed to score atleast four goals and concede none for them to progress to the next stage after their 3-0 humiliation in Maputo.

Penalty miss

Gor could have broken the deadlock in the 15th minute from the spot-kick, after Ali Abondo was fouled in the area but the former Tusker FC midfielder stood up-to hit the ball straight into the hands of Nelson Longonate-Ferroviaro keeper.

The penalty miss really disorganized K’ogalo’s spirit as the victors gained more confidence into the game. With full action in the midfield, Ferroviaro’s efforts were rewarded on a counter-attack with Ibramo Pilale unleashing a magnificent shot outside the box into the back of the net; that found Jerim Onyango flat-footed.

A few minutes to the break, Dan Makori had a prestigious close range chance to level the scores but it seems like the ‘football gods’ were not with Gor as the speedy winger squandered it.

fresh legs

Interim Coach Bobby Ogolla made some tactical changes bringing in Baldwin Ngwa, John Kiplangat, Kevin Omondi for Makori, Hugo Nzoka and Abondo respectively in the second half.

Ngwa’s impact was felt immediately in the 60th minute, forcing Lengonate to rescue the visitors before his attempt was again saved eight minutes later.

unlucky

The Cameroonian import was thorny in Ferroviaro’s defense and his hard-work could have paid dividends in the 84th minute, but Lengonate’s good reflex action kept him at bay as Moses Odhiambo’s shot also went wide before the match came to an end in favour of Ferroviaro.

It’s a fourth loss in a row for Gor since their first leg demolition a few weeks ago in Maputo.

Ferroviaro will date Simba SC of Tanzania in the next round.

Gor Squad: Jerim Onyango, Solomon Nasio, Christopher Weskesa, Musa Mohamed, David Owino, Teddy Akumu, Victor Ali (78- Kevin Omondi), Moses Otieno, Hugo Nzoka (70-John Kiplangat) , Moses Odhiambo, Dan Makori (52- Baldwin Ngwa).

Unused Subs: Wycliffe Kasaya (GK), Ivan Anguyo, Yusuf Juma, Rama Salim

Ferr Squad: Nelson Longonote, Arthur Mujanga, Matsinite, Francisco Massing, Vilinga, Whisky, Ibramo Pilale, Jose Wmbe, Rachio, Clessio Barque, Luis Muchale

  • The truth be told we’ve probably the most useless frontline in the world. Our frontline is unable to score be it from penalties or open play so i feel that apart from 2/3 players(Lavasta,Ballotieno n Kip) the rest shld be asked to leave as these guys simply can’t score, bure kabisa

We have witnessed times without number our players not making it on penalties. Are they not trained to? I witnessed Leopards’ penalty against taken by their Rwandese defender and it was sheer class. Cant we have someone to take them? We always say our boys tried and played well. Where are the goals? Thats what matters! These guys are not playing for the shirt.

Even with the “home field” advantage, the team cannot score A SINGLE GOAL(even when awarded penalties !) …… This has been going on for far too long. We have hit the bottom for sure !
There is something definatley “block the path”. If it is the long-sleaved BLUE jerseys, then let’s get rid of the jersey. I have never been able to understand why in such warm weather as we have, we are using long-sleaved shirts?
LET’S GO BACK TO OUR GREEN AND WHITE (SHORT-SLEAVED !) shirts for starters, then work on the other rot methodically !

Control your emotions gentlemen. We are going through some trying moments but it will all come to an end. Please let us not call for players to leave. I believe we have a capable interim technical bench that will be able to transform these players into prolific goal poachers.

Have said it and want to reiterate. We dint need those many 13 players we bought out of desperation. We bragged we can have three strong teams. This only breeds jealous and laxity. To be honest we put too much pressure on these guys and overrate them. THEY ARE SIMPLY OVERRATED! Like the statement or not.

We asked the EC to give Bob a free hand. George Bwana himself has indicated that Bob will be given a free hand. I urge us fans especially bloggers herein to do the same. Even us; let us give these gentlemen a free hand.

It may be true that players were over-recruited…. well there is no problem with that because I believe they can be loaned out. My plea is that we leave it to the tech bench to decide whether they need all those players. They are up to the task and will surely advise the EC appropriately should the need to jettison some players arise. Remember that JBO and TO have been with the boys for barely four days. Give them time and I assure you you will see changes.

I don’t know what Ali Abondo is doing at GM.that guy can’t even give an accurate backpass leave alone playing it forward.why should that rasta guy(moses) take corners when he can’t lift the ball to opponent’s box?
Jery, rasta and abondo should find some village team to play for.why should we commit our time and money only to be let down by three replacable people.my hope that JBO and TO have realized these guys inabilities and will drop them where they belong, bench.

At least we have seen some improvement in their mode of play and I strongly believe that with time, the team will start to be on a winning run. I also concur with my fellow bloggers that the technical bench should be given a free hand in fielding players.

  • When we start winning the same people castigating the team will be full of praises when we win. We have to understand that we are going through a bad patch. The only problem is that how long will it last. On recruitment we are the same group which was even giving names of players to be recruited, let’s not forget that. What we should ask ourselves is why the players’s form dips when they join GM.

This is the worst of the Gor Mahia teams ever! Everybody from the top management to the players seem to be living in “Cloud – Cookooland”. First the change of colours “Blue?”
This team needs a major overhaul right from the management I SAY! Im very disappointed indeed!

I think most of ou comments here are from fans who have never been onto the pitch to know what players go through. The team is great apart from teething problems here and there.I was suprised you could hear fans blaming players when they lost to Muhoroni youth. They did everything but luck would not stand.Let all fans starting with you and me give this players support, let them them know that we love and apreciate them and everything will workout on its own.Let fans know that in football individual players and the whole team sometimes goes through difficult moments in a season. We support European clubs and its not different there. This is football.

  • The turning point must have been the squandered penalty, coming as early as the 15thmin and going by the way we played the first 30mins i think we would atleast have taken the game to penalties had the penalty gone in.Problem,is we seem not to be able to sustain pressure on the opponent for long periods of time.We do pressure, yes but we do fizzle out quiet fast.
Anyway lessons learnt, there is always a silver lining in every cloud, and there is always something to learn.
Guyz at the moment i think it is just a dip in form and maybe hard luck on us.We shall get our feet back, and when we do that woe unto those teams that have not played us yet!

Thumbs up to akumu and defender who played yesterday.if the coach can stick to these 5 guys and either mapunda or kasaya in goal, then five matches from now our matches will be ending in nil_nil draws since our strikers can’t score.
Kevin omondi is rotting on the bench for nothing,he came on yesterday for just afew minutes but output was there for all to see.this is someone who can take on two or three defenders all alone and still do something sensible with the ball.i always wonder of the creteria used to pich abondo, rasta or even makori ahead of kevo or kip.again i say it,jery, abondo and rasta should look for a village team to play for, they aren’t adding any value to the team but instead are big liabilities.

And all of you in your right senses thought that Gor would beat Ferroviaro. I watched Gor play Thika United. Yes Gor won. When I commented on this blog that Gor is going nowhere, I was almost lynched. I critically analysed the way Gor played. It was indeed pedestrian play. I said Thur Dibuoro Secondary school plays better than Gor by far. Some people called me Zico. Let us face it, we made mistakes. Recruited players we did not need. How on earth do you bring in players like Kitawi back. Rejected by ZD, Pamzo, Awono and now Bobby. We over rated player like Rama. You cannot convince me that Awono and now Bobby cannot see the talent in this lad. Why is it that these two coaches see it fit not to play him but warm the bench. IIko kitu. The like of Ndugu Mwakio, Trailer, Jabilo et al are the guys who shouted loudest on who should be bought. Who should be sacked. You had your way, now where are we? I will keep saying, carry your buddens happily. We have to learn to be tolerant. There are now short cuts in building a formidable team. Gor are going nowhere this season. Tupende tusipende. To my great K’Ogalo, take heart. The Mozambicans are simply the best yesterday . Right from the word go, they were under instructions to enjoy themselves. They were composed, had accurate passes and converted a chance into a goal when they got it. Our players, on the other hand, were the opposite. They played with tension, outsmarted in the midfield, had feeble kicks and could hardly contain the marauding

The poor run will end some day. First, Tom Ogweno has a crimnal case in court for illegal possession of fire arm. How can such a person be in Gor Mahia as a team manager? Ethics test failed. Salim Rama was a player who won an award last season. For GM, he is never given a chance to play. Why buy an outstanding player and rest him on the Bench? Rama should leave GM and find a team who will appreciate his skill. This is his prime age and must find to team to give full games. Bob Ogolla, sign a Contract and read it before signing. • If we really love GM then we have to know that some of the emotional outbursts on this blog are doing more damage than good. I thought after winning the FKL cup there was general concensus that we need a revamp our playing squad for the taks ahead and that’s what the EC did. We were even threatening them if they couldn’t sign Oga and Kigere from Rwanda. How fast we change. Going as far as saying so and so is useless as a player. If you have even been on a soccer pitch my friends that’s the last thing you will say of a player. After all form is not permanent but class is. Even comparing us to a village team is so off the mark. Surely we are better that those village teams and that’s why we are in KPL and they are in the ‘village’. Spurs are going through the same rough patch despite their circumstances not having changed. Unless we implement short and long term plans for our team we will continue expecting results which might not come and continue whinning and lamenting. To some of us who are either working or in college what would happen if your Boss continously reminded you how useless you are. Will you ever improve without encouragement. Mine is for those faint-hearted fans to take a break and come back when and if our performamnce improves. Otherwise your stress levels might go to some unmanageable levels. For some of us who saw the team when the players were even sharing sheen guards (don’t worry about the hygiene aspect of it) we are still very much hopefull and will hang in till the end. Our Shemejis even toyed with relegation some times back and see how their team is now. As fans let’s continue doing what we do best as we push the EC and tech bench to do their best. Booing our players in the field or having some disparaging comments on this blog should stop as it even helps us to sink even further

    WAY FORWARD
1)The office should hire a camera man to record all our matches and hand the dvd to the technical bench immediately after every match.the bench should then review the perfomance of every player by monday and note areas of improvement.what we have noted is that we are making the same mistakes all season while some players are a liability to the rest.the sooner we do this the better.
2)we should hire the services of our legends such as dawo, austin oduor and ocholla and ensure they keep tabs on the players on the pitch.after every game they should work on the averages and rate the players on a scale of 10.
3)those thugs on the russia side are a huge liability to the club and the sooner they are dealt with the better for the club.which image do you portray when in your drunken and drugged state you start fighting amongst yourselves-my suggestion raise the charges to 400/= all round and those thugs will be no more.all this chaos in an international match? do we need these people?
4)I REPEAT MY FIRST POINT,RECORD ALL OUR MATCHES AND GIVE BOBBY A COPY SO THAT HE CAN POINT OUT OUR WEAKNESSES.THATS WHAT EVEN MOURINHO DOES AND FROM HIS OBSERVATIONS HE KNOWS HOW TO APPROACH EVERY MATCH.OUR OPPONENTS SHOULD ALSO BE STUDIED AND I EXPECT US TO REVIEW OGWANGS MATCH AGAINST MUHORONI YOUTH IN OUR PREPARATIONS FOR THEM.

We played very very well, we did not just score, whoever feel so justified to discover how, go ask the ball why? Those who feel their 500 was too much be informed that money has same value in this country its not just you who spent, we all did. Some are just too weird, how can you sack Dube from Gor? What wrong has Abondo done to warrant being harassed anywhere? How can we talk of tech bench having a free hand and forcing for Rama to play in every match! Nyakogalo, Dan and Jasawagongo i salute you for watching the match and soberly urging the team appropritely.. We played very very well, those who cant stomach a loss take a break and come back when we begin winning.. This is what i saw..discipline on the ball, ball passing from goal to goal, composure, purposeful substitutiöns.

  • Fans, harrasing our players for not winning is like scoring an own goal. If we continue with this uncouth behaviour we will soon only be able to attract below-average players and that’s when our frustrations will hit boiling point. For our info GM is not like ManCity, ManU , Barca or Real where everybody wants to go before their career is over. And this is due to the following reasons:- our pay is not the best in the league, our fans are too demanding and at times inconsiderate, the tech team has so much interference from outside, the EC has no strong characters to chart the way forward when things are not going our way (which will always happen in soccer). As it is now with most teams paying more or less the same amount most players (workers) will go where there is little stress. Maybe had we not harrased Gattusso we would not have lost the Sher game. That’s just my thinking. Therefore unless some of us change their attitude and behave like we are in 21st century we might be in for a long duration of non-performance. The passion we have should be directed at one and only one direction and that is to support our team. I’m not saying that we should not question authority or suggest changes but managing a soccer club cannot be done through mob psychology. Fans like Mwakio know what it means to manage an enterprise and what making changes for the sake of it does to performance. Therefore let’s give our tech team and players the support they need and let’s remember that now the players will be under pressure not to lose another game instead of trying to win the next two tough games. I really feel it for them. Let’sunderstand their situation and not put undue pressure on them. Otherwise we will be courting physical injuries and/or mental breakdown on these young players.

FOR THE FIRST TIOME OUR DEFENCE WAS VERY STABLE WITH NASIO ON THE RIGHT MUSA AND OWINO AND WEKESA ON THE LEFT THOUGH HE LOST CONCENTRATION ON A FEW TIMES. ALI ABONDO IS NOT YET READY IN TGHAT GOR MIDFIELD,HE SEEM TO BE PLAYING IN THE SAME AREA BUT HWE IS MORE DANGEROUS WHEN HE MOVES FORWARD INTO THE OPPONENTS BOX.
THE REASON IM SAYING ALL THIS IS CZ EVEN IN GREAT TEAMS LIKE MAN-CITY,MAN-U AND ARSENAL, THE NEW PLAYERS GHAVE TO ADAPT TO THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE CLUB BEFORE THEY START GETTING REGULAR PLAY TIME. LOOK AT NASRI,SUCH A WONDER WHEN HE ARRIVED FROMM ARSENAL BUT WHAT DOES MANCINI SAY,HE STILL HAS TO LEARN OUR PHILOSOSPHY BEFORE HE STARTS BECOMING A REGULAR.

. . 2)it is now known to some people that us fans overrate layers such that they do what they do to please us fans forgetting to concentrate on the club . . . if this is true, then this should stop
. . .3)these players as I have observed rush to the press to pour out words and create expectations in fans that come this weekend we “must” win and come the d-day, the team loses hence the fans are irked, . . . examples: Jerry Jagoal and Nzangu to Supersport, ans many others, . . .solution: There should be a proper channel of communication and those authorised to speak to avoid verbal hypertension created amongst fans.

I have never seen a group of players looking so timid after a loss of a penalty and then trailing only one nil. Is it lack of experience or what? Do they need a motivational speaker, I think so. And you guys ,so called suppoerters, your action has a lot to do with what happens in the field. After the Mozambicans scored I saw Jerry look up apprehensively at the crowd, he was fearing something and that negatively affects output.I also checked Ali Abondo after the penalty loss and I saw that he had lost everything in the game and ought not to have started the second half.

The other thing is that apparently there is so far little understanding of the players by the technical bench – Ngwa, Kevin Omondi are first team any time any day; Rama same thing, so why were they on the bench ? Anyway I believe JBO and TO will look into that.
