Gor Mahia confident ahead of tie

Gor Mahia are up against a heavily favoured opponent. Congolese side AC Leopards have the pedigree having won the CAF confederations cup in 2012.

However Gor Mahia are undaunted. They believe that all the hard work and effort they have put in over the past few weeks will pay off.

“We are not so concerned about what they have won and where they have been. Our main focus is to win the first leg to make our work easier in the return match. We are focused and are working hard to get a positive result in this fixture,” said George Odhiambo Blackberry to the Standard.

Three years ago, Odhiambo was in sensational scoring form. But whereas the goal supply has gone down, Odhiambo has been one of the most useful players at the club in the past year or so. He was buoyed by the crucial goal he scored in Madagascar that saw Gor Mahia through

“That goal has given me plenty of morale going into this match. I have trained well and ready to be given a starting role by the coach on Sunday,” he said.
Skipper Jerim Onyango is also confident that Gor Mahia can overcome odds and beat AC Leopards.

“To be honest, every observer will bet in favour of AC Leopards because of what they have achieved in this competition. But we are Gor Mahia and we fear no foe,“The fighting spirit of Gor Mahia is what will lift us. We are the underdogs but we can shock Africa by eliminating AC Leopards,” said Onyango to supersport.com.

Of all the players, Jerim Onyango has been the most supportive of the new players despite facing intense competition for a starting poistion.

You notive that we have so many new players, but they have already settled in well and working as a team.”

“If we maintain the self belief that saw us go past the preliminary round, we shall make it to the second round. That is our goal,”

  1. This thing is quite easy if you look at it in a positive way.
Commit yourselves wholly and score 3 goals here in Kenya without conceding and then go to Congo and park the bus in front of your goal for the entire ninety minutes

  2. @Bloggers as you say that it is easy”score three goals here and pack the bus away” on the other hand it is not as easy as it is. But for self belief and drive this is perfect. however, football is a game of tact, determination and endurance. If you can recall, Gor has gotten to this stage because as it was reported Cnaps employed this tact when they thought that 3goals were enough. It turned out that one stinger from Blackberry stung them out of the running.I therefore think that they apply what they have been practicing and use the slightest chance that opens up both at home and away.Secondly, the world has now become one Global Village. Generally speaking football is not new and a shocker to any one. Presently even if you were to just collect people randomly for a match, I tell you that beating them is the hardest thing. This is simply because people watch games and have an idea one or two. Brazil used to be referred to as the power house but currently I do not see anything spectacular coming out of them except for a few of the talented ones. But you also get this from Europe, Africa and so on. I look forward to a good home and away matches.See you on sunday e seche machon. Ka ber to madh nyuka gi nyoyo kata chak gi kuon so that you do not get hungry.

  3. It’s good to be positive always even if you are down by 2 or 3 goals. I was amazed with PSG against Chelsea yesterday I wish our players could emulate such high spirit and self belief. All is well!

  4. I hope GM wins by a good margin. But realistically I think the score will be 1-0 in favour of GM. Now the good news is AC Leopards are clearly not as good as Esperance nor even ENPPI

  5. The important thing first leg is not to concede. If we Score at least 2goals without conceding it will make our chances of progressing high.

  6. I don’t see anything special in this team, don’t be surprise if they look ordinary. Apart from being physical there`s nothing worth mentioning here. K`ogallo will march them toe to toe or even better. I have faith and strong believe in the boys. Hi tumechukua. Go go go MIGHTY GM.
If they are that strong why do they sent people to spy on GM while training? It means they are aware of our pedigree and scare to the bone.

  7. This is just a matter of determination n concentration of the players then we fans keep the stadium alive through out the 90 minutes with alot of songs n Luo kitgi kod timbe go,then no Gor player to allow any Congolese player to run with the ball or create any move towards Gor goal. Am appealing to our players not to allow any type of move the Congolese will try to create n all will be well with us as K’ogalo Family, and lastly am appealing to fans to come all, pitia bama Kuna matumbo na ugali jaza kwa tumbo then come when you are alive for vituko za K’ogalo ; Let us meet at Nyayo Stadium tomorrow Sunday.
