Gor Mahia edge Vihiga United 1-0
A 44th minute strike by Nicholas Kipkirui gave Gor Mahia a 1-0 win over Vihiga United at Bukhungu stadium on Wednesday.

Gor Mahia warmed up for the upcoming Mashemeji Derby against eternal rivals AFC Leopards with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Vihiga United in a midweek SportPesa Premier League match at Bukhungu Stadium on Wednesday.
Nicholas Kipkirui’s 44th minute header was all champions Gor Mahia needed to see-off a determined Vihiga side in Kakamega.
The former Zoo Kericho forward headed home Samuel Onyango’s pin-point cross to give K’Ogalothe lead at the stroke of half-time and the champions held on for the win.
The win, coming three days after Gor shocked Egyptian giants Zamalek 4-2 in their opening Caf Confederation Cup Group D match on Sunday, saw Gor move three places into third place in the league standings.
Gor coach Hassan Oktay bemoaned his side’s profligacy in front of goal.
“We played against a very stubborn side in their own backyard but the result is. There are areas I feel should be improved on as we go into our next fixtures,” he said.
Vihiga tactician Mike Mururi blamed his misfiring forward line for the loss.
“They did not co-ordinate well,” he said.
Gor Mahia dictated the proceedings right from the start and could have grabbed the lead five minutes into the match when Jacques Tuyisenge’s shot in the box hit the woodwork.
Referee Lucas Odhiambo awarded Vihiga a free-kick after Charles Momanyi fouled Kevin Muhanji on the edge of the box but Chris Masinza shot straight at goalkeeper Boniface Olouch before Harun Shakava saw his headed effort miss the target on the other end from Ernest Wendo’s delivery.
With both sides seemingly headed for the breather level, Samuel Onyango picked Kipkirui with a perfect cross inside the danger zone and the former Zoo Kericho man made no mistake from close range.
After the breather, both teams upped the tempo. Vihiga could have equalised on 47 minutes but Amos Kigadi failed to beat Olouch in Gor’s post.
Oktay introduced Dennis Oliech for Kipkirui in the second, while Mike Isabwa replaced injured Victor Ademba for Vihiga on 35 minutes.

Guys, each time you unleash brickbats at shadowy characters like Jakoyo , it is there joy because it is only then that they can show their sponsors proof of the tremendous suffering they are receiving for pushing their destructive agenda .

The squad did it. We were aiming for a clean sheet as Vihiga are draw masters. Muguna and Batambuze also came close and we should have won 3-0. We are happy for the win and motivation of going 3rd on the log. Our main aim is to finish first leg Top of the Log where we belong. Sorry ingwe have been thrashed 2-1 by Mt Kenya a rather rude welcome for Casa Mbungo my friend and Efusi’s third coach in 3 months a contender fact for the Guiness Book of World Records. Saturday we will pile more misery sending them to the relegation play-off spot. Then their disguised fans here calling themselves our players etc will wait for a chance to disburse negative energy here at the slightest opportunity. @BB hehe owadwa gor fans are very hard to please but we love them all the same. We were almost back to running battles due to poor squad selection and overlooking talented players who were languishing in the bench resulting in throwing tantrums and near player revolt. If my ‘insurbodinating oktay’ solved that and steadied the K’Ogalo ship then that is what must be done until we achieve all our seasons targets…We thank God above all else for our recent fine run and all players…TB and EC plus the green army faithful…..@Jamriambo in kure Osiepa?
Jasego I hope you will not make Godfrey ochieng and ogweno passengers in Gor mahia and they came with alot of morale to play for Gor mahia and help as win matches. These are very talented players and should never be demoralized by being passengers.

Kudos, @Jasego. At times the way we admonish our own players is CRUDE, very CRUDE. I only see that on the ingwe wall. Are our players supposed to be super humans? Imagine if you were the one being discussed like we do on this forum.

I am happy with our performance though the depth of the squad with the departure of Mieno and Guikan has left us a bit depleted.
