Kogalo edge Chemelil

A Rama Salim header in the seventh minute was the only goal scored during Saturday’s clash pitting Gor Mahia and Chemelil at City Stadium. The solitary goal gave K’Ogalo three crucial points and continues the resurgence under coach Logarusic.

The hosts settled into the game first and were rewarded when Rama Salim connected to Kevin Omondi’s cross and the reigning young player of the year made no mistakes with a cool header above the defenders.

In the  30th minute Chemelil had a decent chance well marshaled from their half. Haji Mwachoki met Daniel Mutahi’s cross but keeper Jerim Onyango denied him, a resulting rebound shot also was saved by Jerim who had recovered fast to maintain a clean sheet.

Gor Mahia were forced into an early substitution in the first half with defenders Solomon Nasio coming out for Chris Wekesa. A limping Donald Mosoti still managed to survive despite taking some time off the pitch to receive medical attention.

Chemelil had the better part of the second half dominating especially in midfield. In the 55th minute, Chemelil captain dribbled past Gor Mahia defenders to serve Mwachoki alone in the box but Keeper Onyango read the move fast to cut it out before the final tap though Mwachoki was later ruled offside.

In the 60th minute, Chemelil scored through Tony Opondo but the assistant referee ruled Opondo offside.

In the 70th minute, Gor Mahia survived a scare when Willis Ouma’s long range shot was headed off the line by Mosoti. Jerim Onyango rushed off his line to make a clearance but ended up gifting a chance to Ouma with a poor clearance.

Ten minutes to the end Gor Mahia’s David Owino made a good offensive run but the final header by Rama Salim from a Moses Odhiambo cross shot was well saved by Chemelil keeper Fred Onyango.

Gor Mahia is now placed 10th on 18 points ,Chemelil drops from 4th to 6th place with 21 points.

Congratulations to the team, technical bench, EC, fans inclusive, for winning this match. A victory against Chemelil is not anything to brush aside because it is one of the toughest teams in the current premier league (the others being Western Stima, KCB, Thika United and Karuturi Sports).

It happens that our next matches as we wind up the first leg will be against KCB and Western Stima in that order. The good news is that these matches will both be played at City Stadium unless stated otherwise. The not so good news is that after meeting KCB on Sat 12th, K’Ogalo will be called upon to face Western Stima 4 days later, on Wed 16th May.

I appeal to all concerned to prepare well for these two games so that we can go on the break on a high. May we put in place the mechanisms that can guarantee us wins and sort out all that may cause a loss of focus. The kind of noise that Ballotieno and other dropped players are making about unpaid dues is what I have in mind. Sort them out so that either party can move on without distraction. We had said earlier that there will be panic among the pace-setters once K’Ogalo starts winning and the ink has not even dried..!

It is reported that our coach is eying Dan Sserunkuma. I urge you coach to go for him full blast in spite of the competition from Tusker and Koops. EC do your best and create a conducive financial environment that will enable the coach to acquire the players he needs to take us to the coveted prize. This is business: spend money to make more money. Once more I say congratulations even to the bloggers under the wise and able stewardship of chot nyar okuyu.

  • Congrats to the boys. We still need to put more punch on taking the chances and also we need the stamina for a 90 minutes game. On our fans let’s do what we do best and that’s cheering the boys. Just had a chance to watch Simba maul Yanga 5-0 in the Dar derby and three of the goals were from penalties. And believe it or not there was not even a single bottle thrown onto the pitch, no tear gas, just fans taunting each other. That’s how footbal should be enjoyed.

@Peter Ptah in post 3 I realise that this is the second time you are making that appeal. I request you to allow me to differ. Why? Ever since Bob Mugalia acquired the Kenyan citizenship how many goals has he scored for his club? For Kenya? When is the last time he was fielded by Sofapaka? I agree the lad was good before he became a Kenyan, but not anymore. Coach Zdravko please go for performance as you shop around, but for fame of yesteryears lest we end up with another bunch of over-rated rotten potatoes.

May I join comrade Mwakio in wondering about the whereabouts of chairman AR?

Patience pays and we can now breath a sigh of relief. To him who is asking about Mugalia, know that his form is over. In fact it is great we never wasted a cent on him. Go on kogallo.

Congrats jo kogallo for the win , positive criticism is good , on yesterdays match ourleft wing back was weak and Chemelili realised as much and used it to cause as headache – on Jerim , who will tell him he is not Higiuta anatoka kwa goal so much and any striker whi can think and run will have a field day – to me Kasaya was more stable , unless jerim changes we are in for trouble from predator strikers

  • we won yes but played no soccer.the K-Sharks game on sato was more entertaining to watch.the only clear move resulted in a goal for us otherwise we were lost in mid, defence and striking was poor as usual.our main striker eg Midenyo and Ngwa are the type who must be fed with clear passes to make any impact.we crowd the midfield yet no one is sharp enough to deliver deadly passes like the one Odhissy made to Kevo resulting in the goal.

Keep up Boys it’s not late to catch up with others in T op Five. There is still concern in mental and physical ability of the players,I guess you noticed how Haji gave Gor mahia defenders rough time and those are some of players we released basing on their performance.

To the team,i think stamina is lacking from almost the entire playing unit kwani hatuendi gym?

  • I think of all the teams we are the ones with the least stamina to keep us going for 90 minutes. It’s good we are winning but it’s also essential that we keep on looking for goals throughout the games and if we are to defend we still need to be able to surprise in counter-attacks. That is really lacking. We need to build that mass in our players as well as the power. We easily get shoved off the ball.

Since GM is a non-political outfit let’s retain it as so. We can all see the effect of politics on football. It’s like oil and water, which don’t mix. For those who can see and/or feel the effect is all out there. As said , those for politics there are more rallies in a weekend to attend than there are football matches.

The gym may not be the solution. If one lives a very permissive lifestyle then his performance in sports will remain wanting.

Professional sportsmanship calls for utmost self-discipline and self-control. Any Gor Mahia player who wants to be durable must distance himself from ‘anasa za dunia’ as far as east is from west. The other day bloggers expressed concern about players patronising some joint downtown. Let us hope they got delivered out of it.
