Oktay going to Turkey, may not return

Gor Mahia’s 2019-2020 season could be thrown into disarray. Coach Hassan Oktay has been granted leave to sort out family related issues and may not return.

“Gor Mahia are a big club in East Africa and Kenya and one needs to put your brain and your all to handle such a great team. But for now I am faced with a number of family issues which have affected me and I cannot concentrate. I am really struggling to concentrate and I must go home to sort out the issues first before I know my next move ” Oktay told goal.com

He is unsure if he will return

“I want to go on Tuesday and will see if I manage to sort out the problems way in advance, then I will come back, but if not, then I will write to the chairman to ask him to get another coach.”

He further stated that it would take 5 days to make a decision.

“I want to take like five days, but if my problems persist then I will write to the chairman to get a new coach.

“I am not running away, no, we have bought good players this transfer window and I know the team will perform very well. The team will win the league and I know they will perform well in the CAF champions league. We have signed a top-class goalkeeper and also two good strikers, I know they will help the team to do well. I will really want to handle the new players but unless my problems back home are sorted ” he concluded.

Oktay also lauded the club officials.

“I am very happy with the two officials [Rachier and Jolawi], they are very special people for the club,. They are very dedicated and working tirelessly for the club, Gor Mahia is a fantastic football club and with or without me they will do well in the Caf Champions League this season.” he told goal.com

Gor Mahia are scheduled to play in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League on the weekend of August 10 which is about 11 days away. This means assistant coach Patrick Odhiambo will be the man to come up with a strategy Aigle Noir of Burundi.

I have never been impressed with his coaching style and the truth be told, he has been there, he found a good squad and now he is been given a new squad to mould, he is talking he can’t win with kids. Let him go and never to come back. Where is Kerr? Go!!!! Go!!!

  • It was predicted ! From the onset he was destined to be the shortest serving coach in the history of the club and it has come to pass. 8 months and just one trophy ! Calling your CECAfA troop ‘kids’ was the final nail in your coffin.

We wish you well in your new role in zambia or is it botswana! , just dont lie to us that it is a personal problem, we know this games being played out by foreign coaches year in, year out.

And finally, don’t talk shit about us wherever you go.

True. In Gor, we make players and it’s not vice visa. If feels he has been exposed, he is free to leave and try con elsewhere. This is not a coach. During his tenure, Gor type of play was not sexy so we never got what we wanted except too much noise in the media and not in the field.

He should go in peace, thanks for having taken gor mahia to caf quarter final but truth be told your system of play and formation was boring,no good football witnessed during your tenure, strike all over in playing unit, talking shit to the media. We wish you well, let us now get a focused and game reader coach who is going to be professional in his conduct.

  • It is sad that brokers have take the reign of managing players recruitment. When will this club be professionalise and be run properly like a professional football outfit and business entity? Aduda, Bollo, Ngala, Nyangi, Okuku and Jolawi are the biggest brokers and it is high time such fellows must be shown the door.

Is the chair Ambrose Rachier serious about turning this great club into a professional football outfit?

  • This sentence tells you that he is not coming back:

No coach would say that if he was planning on returning. If a team can win with any coach then whats the point of having Oktay?

Local is best. Why not give Kimanzi a chance?

  • Get us Mutebi, the CECAFA winning coach or even the a Zambian. Our pedigree should be enough bait a good African coach. That said the Oktay experiment came amazingly cheap and if one is honest exceeded expectations.

Now regarding the affable Jausenge did he honestly repay his record price tag. No golden boot in the 4 years. Did he really live up to the expectation of his 4m tag, compare him to Kagere, Dan Ssrenkuma, Kip, Onyango all who cost the club 300k or less. That’s why people talk about an upgrade on Jausenge because he never even hit 20 league goals in any season. Still I wish him well where he went.

    Reply
    • Tuyisenge was well worth his price tag…he never hit 20 goals a season but he consistently hit double digits over the four season he was with the team and most of his goals came in the big occasions. 64 goals and 5th all time best scorer for the team and not to mention 2nd highest continental top scorer is more than impressive, and if that is not enough we sold him for 15 million plus a percentage of future sales. Best 4 million the club has ever spent if you ask me

Oktay guided Gor to CAF confed’ quarters and hence should be wished well in his future endevaours. Many good coaches have left Gor in the past but other better ones have always replaced them.Meanwhile Oliech has been called upon to assist Odhiambo in preparing the team for the upcoming international match. We support you and wish you well in training.

Bring Kerr or Loga back. The combination of Odhiambo and Oliech though good but need an experienced professional coach to guide them.

    Reply
  • Give coach Patrick the job. Gor Mahia has an assistant coach and he should be given a chance to take the mantle before another coach is sourced. Otherwise why was there a need to appoint an assistant coach. I also recommend that his salary be raised to the level of what the foreign coaches get …for he shall have no excuse should he fail! This would be a great chance for a local coach to prove us wrong.
Local coaches fail coz of the ‘ubeshte’ attitude in their work, they quickly lose respect from the very same ‘mabeshte’. Keshi survived in Nigeria coz he was no nonsense. The Senegal coach is accorded alot of respect by his players.
My only problem with local coaches is that they are technically ‘dry’. They survive on one method and it seems that all Kenyan coaches went to the same nursery school.
Otherwise should Oktay not come back then I wish him well and pray that he overcomes his challenges. He was not my favourite coach but at least he left without drama!

  • All the best coach. We have an opportunity to find a less expensive coach and finally we can be a local club pursuing its African mission and giving back to the society (young budding players in the local scene). That’s where we belong for now.

How is the contract of coaches worded? Especially the exit clause? Somebody cannot just wake up and say he is leaving. That is why some of us have no kind words for Hassan Oktay. Contracts should have a close like: Give a notice of 1 month or pay the club a 1 month salary in liu. He cant leave 2 weeks to a CAF club champions match against the Burundian club.

How comes with negative news we have so much messages but when the team was doing well in Rwanda there was only a couple of inputs. Are we that negative in our thoughts?
Unless someone knows somethong we don’t know, let him tell us why they think Oktay is not coming back. Has none of us never had family problems and had to rush home or back to the country. It happened to me and i was assisted immediately to come back home after which i went back. Zidane had such an issue and left the team to go home and resolve it recently.
Like @Kosero says, let’s be positive. And in case Oktay for some reason doesn’t come back won’t it be just like Kerr went. Didn’t we still manage to surpass Kerr’s achievements after Oktay came in at the last minute?

So guys let’s be positive, whichever coach comes they will still have their faults. Didn’t we criticize Marcello despite him introducing us to tiki taka. And Williamson was criticised for his English type of game

Apart from Logarusic, i have never missed any of the foreign coaches. Coincidentally, only Loga has been successful since leaving Gor, taking Sudan to CHAN semifinals and teaching Kimanzi a football lesson for dropping Kipkirui (that a PLUS for me). With Sudan in political turmoil right now and Loga stating he still has business to finish in Kenya, is there anyone making calls? Loga is a brand, stadiums will be full and GOR MAHIA WILL BE GREAT AGAIN, and some players in that team will start to use their heads. Gor should start signing players and coaches who add commercial value to the club coz without sufficient sponsor money, fan pull power will be crucial next season

The worst thing about this story is that if a new coach comes in, and the team is performing badly, the excuse will be that the team has to grasp the new coach’s philosophy, or they have to gel,etc etc. But I hope it turns out well.

The coach is the nerve center of the playing unit. Among other things his role is to give insight, scheme, coordinate, synthesize and breakdown critical information that gives a technical and tactical edge each game at a time. Sincerely it needs one to be in the best mental and psychological frame to surmount these roles successfuly. We all have drainning domestic and family issues all the time. Oktay is no exception. And he has come in the open to reveal this incapacitation. Its unfair to look at things in one dimension. Its time he needs our prayers and support. So he can find away to sort out those issue faster and archieve the right state of mind on time to resume his duties at k’ogallo. Lets hope that the officials have not rubbed him the wrong way interms of salaries and dues and that he is man enough to state if he is quiting. Whataver the case we have a fond place for him in our hearts and we pray God to help and keep him safe. Meanwhile Ass. Coach Paty, put on the iron jacket and get on with the job.

  • My thoughts tells me that Oktay had two allegiances. To the Club and to the Family. If I have to take it on face value, then I think he has every right and obligation to attend to family matters over anything else. The reality of the matter is, a person may do all the good things out there and people will cheer you on but if the the home front is burning then you will always be unfulfilled and can not perform to the maximum. When players are fired or for that matter their contracts come to an end, where do they go ? back to the family. You don not hear people say come to my house or home. Family is sacred over any other thing.
For the Club I think he did his best. Should he not come back so be it. The other thing I like about the whole matter is that he has communicated and not disappeared like others have done. The likes of Loga and Kerr. He has shown and proven his respect to his employers. Should this be worst case scenario, then I think it is time to trust our recently acquired Assistant Coach to either go the whole way or in the meantime. Experience has also shown us that Gor somehow manages to navigate its way through the rough terrains. My other comfort is that this is happening before our local league commences. I am not oblivious of the coming international engagement. For it is time to move on like we have always moved.

Our former arsenal could not move with our expectations and ambitions, that’s why we released them. It doesn’t mean that all over sudden, they are now good and we fear them.we’re always the team to beat. Anytime Gor mahia fc recruits a particular player and that player manages to bench a certain play, it only means that the play benched have failed to up his game to maintain his position in the team. So the fear factor being felt by other bloggers have no value in Gor. The only players leaving Gor are headed to foreign leagues but the former players who are joining our competitors in the league are no threat at all.

    • Jamriambo relax I am fully in charge. I promised you Two lethal foreign targetmen and you now have them. TB will work under guidance of TC but once Oktay becomes clear on his future we shall recruit a new foreign coach very fast after getting go-ahead from the Chairman. on Sibomana and Karim joining Wazito well they are former GOR players period we had no control of wherever they could land. Just know they remember who brought them to Kenya and as such paid me a courtesy call yesterday with a message that they want to work hard regain top form within a year which is how long their contracts are then hopefully get resigned by none other than Chuor Timbe…I told them why not all is possible in the world of football…God Bless Mighty Mayienga
