Dismissed Players move on

Former Gor Mahia midfielder Collins Okoth has confirmed he is set to join former Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Sofapaka on Thursday.

Okoth is among eight players who were axed on Tuesday in a radical move as the club seeks to regain its winning ways.

The international midfielder had been on suspension by his former club over disciplinary issues, but negotiated a new contract at Sofapaka.

However, he cannot play for Sofapaka until the transfer window opens.

Reports of my sacking is nothing surprising because I have been on suspension. I am glad that it has finally come to this because now I can get my release letter and join Sofapaka. This is what I was waiting for,” he said on Wednesday.

Okoth said he’s tying a few loose ends on his impending move to Sofapaka and also dismissed reports by Gor officials that he is unreliable.

“Those saying that I have disciplinary issues are not telling the truth. I never missed training without telling the coach and they can all vouch for me,” he said.

On reports that he had left Tusker earlier due to disciplinary issues, Okoth said his departure from Ruaraka was by mutual consent since he was not being fielded then.

“I stayed on the bench for a whole season. At the end, I requested then coach James Nandwa to let me go. That is why I left. Nobody complained about me,” he said.

Hugo Nzangu, another of the eight, who were dropped said he is surprised by the move and does not understand what criteria was used to make the decision. Nzangu was formerly at Sony Sugar and before being axed had featured in just two matches and scored twice.

“If it is based on performance, I should not have been targeted because there are some strikers in the team who are yet to score even one goal,” said Nzangu.

He added he is weighing his options before making his next move and did not want to say whether going back to Sony remains an option.

Demonde Selenga said he will not contest the decision to sack him and is waiting for the transfer window to get a new club.

“I was not given any reason for the decision but I believe I gave my best during my stay at Gor. Now is the time to move on and get a new club,” he said.

Selenga had only played two matches before he was fired. Gor Mahia Deputy Secretary General Ronald Ngala said they acted on the recommendations of the team’s technical bench when releasing the eight players.

Those who were released are, ?Hugo Nzangu, Demonde Selenga, Collins Omondi Dan Makori, Antony Otieno, Collins Okoth, Peter Juma and Felix Nwosu.

  • All the best guys, the players retained shld know the honour of wearing the GM jersey(oh how I still miss our original shade of green) n realize that these released players will fight extra hard to cause an upset against GM,everyone does, remember Rangers n Oserian.Yes some strikers/attacking midfielders retained have not scored or provided goal assists for a very very long time, careful uve until june!

My advise to the released players, remember the famous saying “whenever you leave do not bang the door, you may one day want to come back through the same door”. I know its painful to some but let me say this to Collins Okoth in particular(he is no longer Gattuso, that name he must surrender to us), my brother do not be confrontational and antagonising everybody in Gor, move on whichever way you want and quietly, some of us may still love you.

To my fellow Kogalo supporters, remember what the CJ said about the axed judges? He will not allow anyone to trample on them at this time when they are down. Similarly then this is not the time to attack any of the dropped players, we should maintain that brotherly relationship even as they move on, afterall they are just out of Kogalo but they are still our brothers, fathers, cousins and most of all, friends.

  • To Blackberry i believe if u can meet our standards, which by the nowdays iko juu tu sana, Mighty K’galo is ten times better then this Azam thing.Am sure that GM can offer something reasonable but high octane pressure of being a GM player and the exposure you will get means in 2 years you cld mature into a world class act, thats my take

  • To the fired boys and especially Makori who was nice to watch,we wish you all the best in your future endavours wherever you go ,Gor Mahia will never forget you but we had to give the coach a free hand so that he can take responsibilities for the results…….good luck and you will always be welcome at the Mighty Gor.

  • I hope bloggers now agree that we are yet to see a new list of sackings. If the reason is the bloated squad and yet we already have several players on our radar for June, it can only mean that we should expect fresh surgery in June.

I agree that a team of 25 players is ideal for a club our size but who has to go from the lot left? The other issue is that most KPL clubs would like to reap heavily when it’s Gor involved in transfer negotiations. Sofapaka already dared Gor to show them the money for Mieno. Let us not forget that they asked for 10million for Mugalia who is way below Mieno in current value.

Where will we get this great players if we ignore Wuonpap and his noble idea of working with the youth. Surely Mieno was one of the youth some day. There must be such players yet to be discovered. KCB and Thika United have also tried the youth idea and we are now salivating for the talents they have nurtured.

Wuonpap, i must say we will eventually have to follow your consistent suggestion.

  • to players dismissed. just move on. loyalty alone does not count. its not about yesterday’s game. its about NOW. ask players like Ronaldhino(brazil), when he started to show tired legs, that was it. you do not start saying what you did to the club. if gor continues to make such business like decisions then it will go far. most fans keep yeberring how gor should be a company, its such decisions that lay the foundation. its BOLD and needed. the EC AND coach have really put their names on the firing line. but i hope for the best. at least they have shown character.players will now understand that its about delivery. gor is not a parastatal where ur just paid salary wether u achieve or not. players understand that its ur carrier. the fans who love you now will be the ones to spit on you tomorrow.ppl like me have no MANCHESTER UTD OR ARSENAL to run to, local football is my everything.as i said before gor simply needs basics at this stage, not an aeroplane nor a stadium, win the small fry first then believe and the others will just fall down on your lap.otherwise wish you players the BEST.

  • blackberry and azzam; on the issue of big clubs. pls see yahoo artical on players salaries. the avrg pay in barcelona is 101,000 pounds sterling. its was reported that the gor players gets kshs 45,000 per month. this is aimed to those who say say gor is a big club and should build a stadium and other strange suggestions. lets not mention how much u need to pay to watch barcelona and needless to say their matches are sold out in advance. then bring in the sponsors. food for thought. my topic on BB going to azzam will also emphasize the same topic… why azzam, simple the BIG club cannot afford to pay the fee. azzam can simply put more CHIPPO on the table than gor. why!!! what a beautiful question yet the kenya shilling is twenty times the TZ shs. the power of fans and sponsors. in short TZ can afford better players even the high quality nigerian players easily. so my dear stadium builders and the ones who now want to buy gor an aeroplane, do the basics. let the croat change the gor game but more so the adidas guys, allow us to be going to the stadium to watch footie. with gor packing the stadium, getting one or two quality players is very much within the gor reach. the goodwill is there and soon to follow will be an even bigger sponsor. alternitive two let the stadium builders simply offer some of the MONEY to BB and he will be in the camp tomorrow, why are you letting BB go to azzam yet you want to buy a plane? just doesn’t make sense. the EC has now done it’s part, over to you now.

  • you can confirm Berry is not interested in football, but money. He must have lost focus in randers and might not reach 60% of what he was in Gor. Let Berry try elsewhere. We will hear from TZ which is near here whether he is scoring goals.

    No more hiding for him

  • I think Mwalimu Dan Makori has been playing some good futa and with a passion. Anyway lets move on. We still need to do away with some goal keepers coz i am sure we dont require 5 goal keepers.

  • Apart from Mwalimu, the rest of the players have no basis to feel cheated and their dismissal is neither here nor there.

I stand to be correected: Makori should not have been dropped as per the services that he had offered to the Mighty Kogalo. For the rest, it was viable. Nway, let me not oppose what the tech bench has done but think twice plizzz
